Chapter 88 088
Amy's POV
He's not saying anything, which means there's more to this than I know. I didn't think he would also want to hide things from me like this for a long time. Is it so shameful to say, or is it because I'm not actually family with them and they don't want me to know?
I mean, it's not that big of a deal if I'm adopted. They could just say it and we'll move on with things. Why do they have to hide everything from me? My parents promised to tell me everything, but I've not heard from them since. I can't go out since it's dangerous for now, but I want to know why things are like this for me.
"Caleb, if you're not saying it, it means that you have a lot of things to hide from me, and you feel like I don't deserve to know."
He shook his head. "That's not the truth. I promise you, you wouldn't want to know the things behind your birth."
Damien and I looked at each other. He was also interested in knowing what was going on. He moved closer to Caleb and asked him, "Are you sure hiding it from her would be the best decision? She's an adult now, and she deserves to know whatever her birth is about."
Caleb sat down again, sighing deeply. "It's a long story, and I don't really know everything. The only thing I know is that you're very different from us."
I scoffed. "If you're going to say something, you should be specific and tell me something that I don't know."
I felt very frustrated talking to him. Deep down, it wasn't a big deal if I found out that I was adopted by them, because they always treated me like family. I would have never known I was different from them if it wasn't for my wolf. It was sad but true. I was ready to listen to whatever he had to say and take it that way.
I just wanted to know the truth about myself and why my whole heart was locked up. The fact that I never even announced what kind of wolf I had to the world, and most people didn't even know if I had a wolf or not, but I was already being attacked by rogues from nowhere, only meant that there was more to this than I knew.
It's not just about me at this point. Damien might be involved too, since he also had to hide his identity from the entire world. We are very strong beings, and we are stronger than the rest of our kind. Why should we hide our identity from the whole world when we can have them bow to us, if there wasn't something serious behind it?
"Amelia, you should know this already. No one in our family is a lycan except for you, unless you have a special constitution. There isn’t a reason something like that is possible except for genetics, which means you're adopted."
I took a deep breath before replying to him. "I was expecting this anyway, but I just wanted to know more about this. Can you explain it without stating the obvious?"
"The fact that you have a rare wolf isn't obvious. If it wasn't for your wolf, you wouldn't have known. I don't know why you're so impatient and not letting me explain things fully," he scolded me.
I wanted to reply him, but Damien stopped me. "That's enough. Your brother is trying to explain things to you like you asked. I don't think you should be ungrateful."
My eyes widened in amusement. "Are you being serious right now? You should support me and not him. Are you interested in my brother?"
He shook his head. "You are being so naughty."
I frowned and looked away while he continued to talk to Caleb.
"By any chance, does her birth have anything to do with the war between lycans and the demon rogues twelve years ago?" Damien asked him.
"Wait, what?"
I looked at both of them in confusion. This was the first time I was hearing about something like this. Or maybe I did hear about it, but it sounded like a tale to me. When I was in school, I heard some people talking about it and saying it was a legend.
But every time, I kept feeling like it was a joke, because there wasn't any sight of lycans in the world anymore, so I thought at that time that they went extinct because they couldn't reproduce.
According to the tales I was hearing in school, the lycans ruled all werewolves, and they had the royal family which was in charge of everything. There was the Royal Court, where a lot of werewolves and pack leaders would go to at that time. It was a good time for the werewolf community.
However, a group of rogues who were hateful attacked them because they felt like they didn't deserve to be the leaders. And also, they were able to win against the lycans because they were stronger, which is why everyone named them the demon rogues.
I also heard that they were called the demon rogues because they were not powerful enough to beat lycans, but the only way they could have done something like that was through witchcraft or some underhanded forbidden methods which would give them power and possession from more evil elements and could make them very powerful for that moment.
We also heard that the lycans were killed by poison that weakened their entire bodies, which made it more possible for the rogues to attack. However, these people were killed later on, and their leader was never caught.
"Are you saying that nonsense I used to hear in school was actually a real event and it had something to do with my real family?" I questioned both of them.
Damien also sat down, nodding in agreement. "It was twelve years ago, and the full story is also something that I don't know. All I know is that I lost my family, and I was forced to become the leader of this pack at a young age because it was weak at that time and they needed a leader."
"But you said you already lost your family. How could a young child like you become the leader? And also, do they know your identity?"
He shook his head. "Our family butler brought me here. He used to work for the Royal Lycan Court thanks to my parents, who were high-ranking officials in the Royal Court and also influential. He saved my life and adopted me as his son. He was dying at that time from a poison, so I had to take his place."
I can't believe I get to hear something like this, which he has tried not to tell people for a long time. He always shut people out of his life and has been alone for a while. I thought he was doing this on purpose, and I saw him as an evil person for not even caring about other people's feelings. Now I understand why he grew up like this.
He never had much love for as long as he could remember, and he lost all the support he had in life. He had to grow up being strong at a young age and leading a lot of people, which meant he had to take desperate measures, especially when he was blamed for things that happened all around the werewolf community.
"Why are you looking at me like that? Do you feel sorry for me? It's not like you're any different from me. You must have lost your own family too, right?" he said, bringing me back from my thoughts.
I glared at him. "Do you have to rub salt in my wound? Can't you just let me be emotional for a moment? You're so annoying."
Caleb broke into our conversation. "I don't fully understand what happened back then, because I feel like our parents would be the ones to tell you what happened. But all I can say is that the lycans were indeed wiped out by the demon rogues."
At least Damien knows who he is and who his family is, but I don't even know who my family are. And the only people I can ask are my parents, but they don't want to tell me.
"Is this the reason why my wolf was locked?" I asked Caleb.
He nodded. "Yes. Mom and Dad had to find a way to lock your wolf and hide your identity from the whole world so you wouldn't get hurt."
I finally sat down to take in all the information I just got. I can't believe this happened to me. This is so absurd.
"I know you hate them for doing that to you, but it was all to protect you. You wouldn't have lived long if those people found out about you, because there were still remnants of them around."
I looked at Damien, and everything was starting to come together for me. I didn't tell my brother about the attack I got before. It was definitely something that has to do with what happened in the past, and my parents could know about it. This is why they agreed for me to be with Damien anyway.
Could it be that those people never left my side and they were around me all along? I gasped and looked at Damien, and he gave me a signal to calm down, as if he knows about it already and he never told me the truth.
