Chapter 48 048

Chapter 48 048

Amy's POV

As soon as I stepped into the house, I already knew something was off. The living room was too quiet, but they were all there—my father sitting stiffly on the couch, my mother with that judgmental look she didn't always have, and Caleb just pacing like he was trying not to explode. The air was so thick with tension I could barely breathe, and I hadn't even shut the door behind me yet.

"Amelia," my father said sharply, standing up. "Where have you been?"

I blinked, acting like I didn’t hear him right. "You already know dad."

His voice rose. "You went off with Alpha Damien! After everything we've said about him? That man is dangerous, Amelia! What were you thinking?"

I dropped my bag on the floor and folded my arms, already regretting coming back here. “He's not as bad as you all think.”

My father's face turned red. "Not as bad? You think someone like him cares about you? That monster—"

"Stop calling him that!" I cut him off without even thinking. “He’s not a monster... I mean he is but he's not that bad. You should get to know him first.”

My mom gasped like I’d just killed someone in front of her. Caleb stopped pacing and looked at me like I’d grown two heads.

I looked away, already feeling stupid for defending Damien when I wasn’t even sure if I trusted him myself. But deep down, I knew I couldn't tell them everything. Not about the kiss, having sex with him or anything else. They wouldn’t understand, and even if they did, they'd only use it against me.

"Do you even know what you're saying, Amelia?" my father said again, now in a calmer but colder tone. "That man is using you. He’s always used people to get what he wants.”

I felt the heat rising in my chest, and my fists clenched on their own. "And what do you want from me, huh? Ever since I got my wolf, it’s like none of you even look at me the same way. You won't talk about it, you won’t even let me talk about it. What exactly is the problem?”

They all went silent.

“I said talk! Say something!”

Caleb looked at me, but his mouth stayed shut.

“You know what? Why don’t you tell me the truth then?” I turned to him fully. “Why don’t you tell me why all of you are acting like me having a wolf is some kind of curse? Why didn't you all smile when I was finally able to shift? Why don’t you celebrate it like you did when others got their wolves?”

Caleb stayed quiet, but I saw something flash across his eyes. Was it guilt maybe or fear? I don’t even know. But they should be very happy for me at least.

“You know who was happy for me?” I said bitterly. “Alpha Damien. The same person you called evil. He was more excited for me than any of you. So what is it? What did I ever do to deserve this kind of hate from my own family?”

“Amy, it’s not that—” my mom tried to speak, but I wasn’t hearing her.

“Then what is it? Tell me what it is!” My voice cracked.

But no one said anything. The silence was worse than any slap across the face. My eyes burned with angry tears, but I held them back. I'm tired of being the only one who cares enough to ask questions while they all look at me like I’m the problem. Maybe I am. But I deserve to know why.

“You know what?” I said with a bitter laugh. “Forget it. You all don’t want to talk? Fine. Keep your secrets. Keep acting like I'm a mistake. I'm done trying to get answers from people who only see me as a burden.”

I stormed off to my room, grabbed my phone and bag, and came back out. My mom tried to call my name, but I ignored her.

"I'm going out," I snapped.

"Where?" Caleb finally spoke.

"Anywhere that's not here so I don't have to be hated for having a life."

He frowned. "Amy—"

"Just stop Caleb. I can't deal with this right now."

I slammed the door behind me, my heartbeat racing from anger and frustration. I walked a few blocks away and called Stacy. She picked up immediately like she had been waiting for me all day.

"Hey, can we meet up?" I asked, trying to sound calm even though I was boiling inside.

"Yeah. What’s wrong? Your voice sounds weird."

“Just... meet me at the park near the bakery. I’ll tell you there.”

“Alright. Be safe, okay?”

I ended the call and kept walking fast. I needed air. I needed to scream. I needed anything that wasn’t that house.

But just when I thought I was free for a few hours, I bumped into someone—literally. I was walking fast and didn’t notice until I crashed into a hard chest. I looked up and saw the disappointment. Not him again. It was Brian. Why is he always around when I least want to see him?

He looked just as surprised to see me. “Amy?”

I immediately rolled my eyes and tried to walk around him. “What do you want this time?”

He stepped in front of me. “I was coming to your house.”

“For what?” I asked sharply. “So you can laugh at me for having no wolf or what??”

His eyes narrowed. “I didn’t laugh at you.”

“Really?” I laughed bitterly. “Because last time I checked, you knew you were my mate but you broke the bond and humiliated me. We weren't friends then?.”

“I didn’t mean to hurt you. Everything I've done is for your own good. I really care about you.”

“Right. Because lying through violence is better than telling the truth?”

He stepped closer. “I didn’t lie to hurt you, Amy. I was trying to protect you.”

I gave him a disgusted look. “Stop pretending to be the good guy. You’re all the same.”

He frowned. “That’s not fair. You have no idea how hard it was”

Why is he acting like the victim when I was the one who got insulted in the first place?

I folded my arms. “You know what’s not fair? Being treated like garbage and being lied to by someone who pretended to be my friend.”

“I am your friend.”

“No, you’re not. Friends don't look down on their friend when she's going through the hardest times. They certainly won't use my weakness against me.”

His jaw clenched, but he didn’t speak.

I stepped back. “Just stay away from me. I don’t want to hear whatever explanation you think you owe me. I’ve had enough lies for one lifetime.”

He looked like he wanted to say something else, but I didn’t let him. I turned around and walked off before I could give him a chance. I felt like screaming at the sky. Everyone around me was hiding something. They were all lying or judging or acting like I didn’t deserve answers. Why is it so hard for someone to just be honest with me? Why is it so hard to trust anyone?

"Amelia, wait!" I heard him running after me.

I turned towards him with a frown, "What exactly do you want from me, you jerk?"

"I can't give up on you. I'm back this time around for you and I don't easily give up, I promise you."

"What?"
