The battle line is drawn
**Valerie's POV**
I took a good look at the address she gave and quickly boarded another cab to the-same address. I wasn’t familiar with the place, but I was determined to get to the bottom of this once and for all.
I have taken yet again another cab to the said address, I kept my eyes glued to my Google map, it was going to be an hour or two drive so I needed to be vigilant. I took notice of the route we took just in case anything happens.
The driver kept reassuring me that I was in safe hands and that he wasn’t going to let anything bad happen to me. When I asked him why, he said that, he shared his story of how he wasn’t there for his pregnant wife while she was in labor which led to her death.
I felt touched by his story and felt relaxed immediately. I took a quick look at the weather which was showing evidence that it was going to rain. I urged the driver to please hurry up so I can be done with what I came for in no time.
We got to the house and to my surprise there were little or no person in the area, it was just a little apartment for just one person. I went in but found no one inside.
“Dr. Sam? Dr. Sam? ” I called out moving round the house. But I got no response, so I took that time to give myself a tour of his house.
It wasn’t big, but it was portable for just one person, but why would he prefer to stay all alone? He had a family, according to what I was told.
A picture frame was on a side table which contained a picture of himself and his family, but he was on his Doctor’s uniform. This doesn’t look recent but it was still sparkling clean like it’s been cleaned every minute. I put it down to take a look at other things.
I got to the kitchen and saw a burnt bacon in a pan, I curled a smile. Men would always be men, I guess he couldn’t cook himself. I kept keeping myself company with the little stuff he had in his house, hoping that he went out and would return soon.
I sat down for a while but still no one was coming, I went out just to confirm if I was in the right place and I was. I checked the idea of the time and it was already 2 pm. I wanted to leave, but something in me wasn’t letting me.
I went back inside and for the first time I found a strange door, it looked like a back door leading to somewhere. It was slightly opened so I decided to go check it out.
I walked up to it and started noticing some blood stains, what could this be? I thought. The closer I get, the more obvious it becomes, As I got closer to the door. At first I was skeptical to open it, but my curiosity was larger than my fear so I had to.
I slowly pushed the door wide open but my eyes weren’t ready for what I saw.
“Ah!!!” I screamed, throwing myself on the floor, right before my eyes was the man I was looking for with a slit throat. I moved closer to find out if he was still breathing but he wasn’t. Tears escaped my eyes immediately, why is everything suddenly going wrong.
The only person who could answer my questions in my head is laying before my very eyes with his throat halfway down. I couldn’t bear the sight anymore, so I had to leave. But something caught my eyes, he was holding a tiny paper in his left hands, I tried to get it out, which was successful.
I opened the paper to read its content and what I saw gave me a shock. Just three letters were written on it boldly. TBW.
“TBW? Wait, this letter only means one thing. THE BRENTWOOD’s. ” The moment I realized this my legs failed me as I staggered a bit. I took the paper and left after calling the police.
I couldn’t stay till the police came because they also were searching for me, so I used a fake name to report the issue before leaving. I ran out of the scene with a broken heart. This only means one thing, that my suspicion about Oliver was right all along.
He must have murdered Dr. Sam so he wouldn’t get exposed and who knows, maybe he wants to finish the job he started with me also, and here I was thinking he didn’t know my real identity.
I boarded a taxi to take me straight home, I’ve seen enough for today. Oliver you’ve really messed with the wrong person, I’d make sure I bring you down Oliver Brentwood, and you’d never have a single chance to become a father.
You can’t cover your mess forever, you may be rich, but I’d prove to you that money isn’t everything. And now, finally, the battle line is drawn.
