Chapter 110
Chapter 110
Nelson
"You only have one option."
I held no teasing in my voice and he was quick to understand that I am leaving him no quarter. He growls as he summons the earth to become a stone and fires it at us. It was a mistake on his part because he has greatly overestimated himself by underestimating me. I dashed towards him and drove my hand into his chest. He gasped as the shock hit him, he looked up at me as his body trembled.
"Who is going to hide your monstrosity now?" He whispered and I pulled out the heart of his body and he fell on the ground. I looked at Ezinna and he was busy with the other heretics and he didn't hear the last words of Max.
"Everything is done." He said as he stared at Max's lifeless body.
First it was Leo and now Max, my friends are meeting their end in my hand.
"Let us go and free the humans." He led the way and I followed him.
The heretics were hostile towards us and I don't blame them for that because we just killed their leader. They would have attacked us if not for the fear of losing their lives.
Ezinna unlocked the cage where the humans were held captive. They were terrified when they saw me but Ezinna thought it was the horrible experience they went through that made them scared.
"Didn't be afraid, it was your relatives that sent us to rescue you people." Ezinna said and it seems it has helped them to calm down a little bit.
"Are there any of you people remaining?" Ezinna asked.
"No." One of the older-looking humans answered.
"Others have been used for the experiment." He added and they all looked sad and tired.
"Do you think we would be kidnapped again and will everything be alright if we go home?" A child asked and Ezinna looked at him with remorse. If Ezinna was the one with my strength, maybe things would have been different.
"I can't answer that little one, but we should always try our best to keep living no matter how hard things get."
"I don't want to be hunted again or live with the fear of being the next to be used for the experiment." The child's words cut deep. I looked at the heretics behind us and they held no pity in their eyes, only contempt.
"People live their lives in whatever way they think suits them. They don't care who they step on, kill or ravage. Creed is born by the constant practice of something. We do something, maybe out of fear, love or hatred, but whatever reason it may be, constant practice of it becomes our way of life and Our creed." Ezinna explained.
In the faces of the heretics, they see no wrong in what they are doing and I don't see them stopping. For the sake of their safety, they don't mind how many humans they kill.
"Child, try as much as you can to remove the fear from your heart. If you can do that, you will know the true meaning of living once again." I gave my words to the child but the fear in his eyes made me realize the words were nothing to him.
"No need to keep you waiting, you can go to Xena now. I will escort the humans back home." Ezinna offered and it was best because the humans wouldn't feel safe if I followed them back home.
"Alright." I replied and we all left together.
"You all will pay dearly for the blood you spilled today. Our hatred is towards you and your kind." I turned to see a boy that was not older than fifteen years pointing at me and Ezinna. I guess this would become their creed.
"You are welcome to try." I released my murderous intent and it was enough to silence him and made them cower back.
"How did you do that?" Ezinna asked.
"It just happened." I replied. This is the first time I did that but somehow I felt familiar with it and l know that some powerful wolves would be able to do that. Ezinna confirmed my guess as he did the same thing.
"Nice." He said.
We said our goodbyes and I started heading home hoping I am not a bit late.
Fate was kind, l was able to come back on time. Just before they took her to the delivery room. Never has my heart raced as much as it raced when I saw her being led to the room.
"You can't come in."
One of the women stopped me and Xena turned to give me a measuring smile before she entered inside. I kept pacing around, her scream of agony was bitter torture for me. What seemed to be forever ended when I heard the cry of the child. It was late at night and the cry was loud and long. I could feel it in my spine that I have given birth to the best of me.
"Sorry Nelson, we tried our best." The woman solemnly told me.
At the moment, I didn't care for the child or about the gender, all I care about right now is Xena. I tried my best to calm my raging nerves and everything down. I could feel my sense shutting everything out one by one until it landed on the slow sound of her heart beat. Truly she is losing her life slowly. I went inside and saw her on the bed covered up and the sheet she was covered with was already stained with blood.
"My Khan." She smiled at me and I saw the baby beside her fast asleep.
"My baby boy is quite strong." She led out a weak laugh and I came and sat beside her. I held her hand and it was so tiny that it can be mistaken for a child's own.
"My beautiful Xena."
"Am I still beautiful to you?" She caressed the cheeks of the child.
"Your beauty is eternal." I spoke my honest truth and she turned over to me.
"I am truly sorry that I can't continue the journey with you. Also, it saddened me to think something has terribly gone wrong." Tears flowed down her cheek and mine too as I was aware of what she was talking about.
"I feel I would be able to change it if I am strong or noticed on time." I shook my head sobbing.
"You did all you could, my love. You are flawless."
"My Nelson, my Khan. You are in pain." She wiped the tears off my cheeks and smiled.
Even the pale hands of death have no power over her face. It is still as beautiful as the day I first felt our mate bond. My desire for her exceeds that of the flesh, it is of the soul. Through eternity my soul will forever search for her, it is sad to think I will never be able to find her. She looked over at our child and smiled.
"His name is Phoenix, my strong Phoenix. Please take care of him." I nodded
"I have something to tell you, I failed you. I have been responsible for the calamity. I…." She placed her finger on my lips.
"I know, maybe it is my fault for being blind to it and deceiving myself into believing that you are still my Nelson, the hunter. When you love someone the disadvantage of it is being blind to their flaws." She scoffed and I am amazed that she has held on to this extent.
"Promise me that Phoenix won't be dragged down to the same road." I nodded and she continued.
"A lot of things have been made clear now that is only a veil between me and death. Phoenix is born with a heartbeat." She said and I just noticed that our child has no heartbeat but he is breathing as steady as a strong baby. Only Titus displayed such ability and this only means I have passed down what I got from Titus to the child. But why is my heart still beating but his own is not?
"Your heart is only beating because you have me, your mate. His heart will remain the same until he finds his mate. I fear the circle will continue until the one Max prophesied about came." Her breathing is getting deeper and slower and I know she will soon draw her last breath.
"I met Titus, I don't know I couldn't remember meeting him until now." She looked at me.
"He will come back one day right?" She asked and I nodded.
"Too bad I won't be around anymore. Take Phoenix as much as you are my Khan, he would be their Khan as well." I took the child and he stirred in my arms but didn't wake up. If I am to add a little pressure, I will hurt him.
"Nelson?" She called.
"Xena." I answered.
"Kiss me, let me take the sweetness of your lips home." I did as she asked and that was the last thing she tasted as she drew her last breath. She died with a smile on her face and her beauty was surreal.
In my agony, I used my blood on her to see if it would magically bring her back to life but nothing happened. I roared my loudest and the ground quaked, the woman managed to come and take Phoenix from my arms because he woke up from the roar. Without order, they all knew it was best to avoid me and the room I was in with Xena's body. I couldn't help to bury her or burn her as we do.
I want to preserve her for all eternity. So, I cleaned her up and took her to the deepest and coldest part of the South. I went to a cave that has light coming from the above. I placed her in the center and stayed with her for weeks until she was all frozen and her beauty preserved. I left to see my son and take care of him as Xena had instructed and my heart stopped beating the moment I left her presence.
