Chapter 109

Nelson

"I will always be with you. I may not be of this world, but I will always be with you." She blinked and tears rolled down from her eyes.

"You shouldn't say scary things, my dear."

"Nelson, I…" I looked away as I sensed the presence of Ezinna. Once again he has gotten stronger than when I fought with him.

"Ezinna is here, let me help you to get comfortable." I helped her to the rocking chair I built for her. She has sat on it many nights telling stories to the children.

"Nelson, Xena, it is me Ezinna." He announced his presence which he didn't need to do. I guess he was being polite.

"Come in," Xena replied and tried her best to welcome our friend with a smile.

"Xena." Ezinna called as he was surprised to see her new look. He looked between me and her before coming closer to take Xena's extended hand.

"I have missed you and everybody." She replied and my heart was broken at the sadness laced in her voice. She asked about his people and he calmly told her how they have settled in. Just like the people in the South, they have divided into smaller units and called themselves Pack. Although Ezinna is still considered the leader and every Pack has its own Alpha.

"So, you will be the ruler that protects them all." Xena said and Ezinna smiled.

"From today onwards, I will be addressed as Adoff." He replied with a smile and tried his best not to make the smile visible. She asked about Leo and Max, he looked at me before answering.

"They are fine." He replied.

"That is good, Nelson has refused to go check upon them."Xena muttered

"Once you deliver, we will all go and see them." I said and she looked at me and smiled.

"I am glad to see you, Ezinna. Forgive my appearance and lack of strength to offer you anything."

"You don't need to apologize." Ezinna added.

"Take me to the room, I don't want to disturb your discussion with your friend." I did as she instructed and took her to the room. I was beside till she fell asleep.

I left the house with Ezinna to ask him why the sudden intrusion. We were both silent till we got to the stream.

"So, what do I owe for this visit?" I asked.

"I will get straight to the point. The humans have come to ask for my help in fighting the heretics." Although I expected it, but not this soon.

"What is wrong?" I acted oblivious to the issue.

"They said they are being hunted by the heretics. I went to see Max and he was no longer the friend we used to know. I got a foul smell from him, he denied everything the humans said but he couldn't deceive me. I decided to snoop around and saw a lot of humans being held captive. Also, I saw some monstrosity that appears to be a creature from hell. He had gotten out of hand."

"What do you suggest?" I asked.

"I suggest we unite to make him see reason or make him stop."

"Tell me truthfully, do you think he will see reasons with us?" I asked knowing he will not. Max is so far gone that nothing can bring him back. Ezinna was silent for a while before answering.

"No, he will not but we still have to stop him." He replied.

"I wish I can be able to help you, my friend. But as you can see, Xena needs my attention the most."

"I know, but we can't ignore the plea of our friends. He has even killed Leo." I scoffed at him thinking that Max was responsible for the death of Leo.

"Regardless, I will still be with my mate in her condition." I added and he wanted to speak but I stopped him.

"Even if the world is about to end and I need to stop it, I will still choose to be beside my mate." I have a finality in my voice.

"Tell Xena I had to leave." He left without a single word.

My hands are tied, not only by Xena but also by my deal with Max. I was about to go back to Xena when I heard a voice in my head and it was Max's voice.

"Nelson, Ezinna is planning to attack me. I am not strong enough to fend him off just yet. Remember our deal and come to my rescue or Xena will see the monstrosity you are." I guess he must have used a spell to send this message to me. How deep is he willing to go? I sighed and went back to Xena, it appears I will have to fight against Ezinna.

"You are back?" She asked and I nodded.

"Has he left? I know he came requesting something. And I hope you try your best to help him out." She added.

"Even if it means leaving your side?" I asked and she smiled.

"I will promise to wait for you if you promise to help him out." She muttered.

"How much will you sacrifice for them?"

"As much as I can, strength is wasted if you can't use it to help people." She replied.

"Max, you just lost the battle." I murmured to myself.

The person that is above everyone is requesting for your downfall and she doesn't even know it.

"I promise to help him if you assure me that you will wait for me." I said.

"I promise to wait for you." She replied instantly and I had to stop myself from shedding tears. I don't have much time, I need to go and come back immediately.

"I promise too. Wait for me, my love. I will be back before you know it." I stepped outside and asked the maid to take care of her and make sure she didn't lack anything.

"I will be back in seven days." I whispered to myself before heading out to catch up with Ezinna.

With my speed, I was able to catch up with Ezinna. He was surprised to see me.

"Xena asked me to help you out." I said and he smiled at my words.

"Xena, what would we have done if not for you." He said. I need to get back to her as fast as I can. So, I don't plan on wasting time talking with Ezinna.

"Are you willing to do what it takes to take down your friend?" My question carried a sense of heaviness so it took him time to answer.

"Let us meet him first." He said.

"No, I don't have time to waste. I will only give him one chance and if he still insists, I will end him." I need to know where Ezinna stands not because I am afraid of him but I don't want to have a reluctant partner.

"You are right, we will only give him one chance." I nodded as he was now attuned to me.

"Try to keep up."

I took off the moment I said that and he followed me immediately.

It took us four days to the West and Max was already expecting us. It has not been a month since I last came to the West but the foul smell has gotten worse. Instead of a nice welcome from Max, we were welcomed by the demons that seemed to be from hell.

"This is the atrocities that I was telling you about." Ezinna said as he was disgusted by their appearance.

I can sense my blood from them and no doubt, this is the reason why he requested my blood. He used it on humana in a bad experiment and this happened to be the results.

"Let us kill them all." Without waiting for Ezinna, I dashed towards the beasts and started tearing them limb from limb. They were strong, a little below an average wolf. Just like me, Ezinna was killing them with no mercy. Max came out with a group of his followers after all his experiments had lost their lives.

"What wrong have we done that made you people to come and kill my beautiful children." The nerves he has to refer to these beasts as children.

"It is enough, what you are doing to the humans is not right. You should let them go and change your ways." Ezinna said and he turned to me. He was about to speak but I stopped him because what he was about to say would implicate me and make things more complicated for him.
