Chapter 73: His Deathbed

Alan's POV

I was nervous, staring at his door. This was more like a villa in the woods or something.

He always like segregated places. I don't really blame it on him as he was a criminal and had eyes on him.

I intended to ring the doorbell but then, I realized the door was slightly open. Anxiously I slide inside and the first thing my eyes spotted was traces of blood.

I shuddered as my eyes securitized the place. It was scattered, with broken objects, pillows scattered on the ground...a fight just took place.

"Darius!" I called in a haste racing towards the bedroom but he wasn't there. I search the bathroom and saw the tub had sprinkles of blood.

Hastily I returned to the sitting room, trying to dial the emergency number when I heard a gurgle coming from the kitchen.

I moved slowly towards that direction and then found him. I froze to a spot as tears clouded my eyes.

"Darius!" I screamed hastening my step closer to him.

He was bleeding from all over his body, trembling and trying to apply pressure.

There were several cuts on his skin, and he seems paralyzed at spot, like though crushed with something heavy.

Around him were pieces of rocks.

Hastily I knelt close to him as his eyes where dim. I lift him up a bit to rest in my arms as I kissed his forehead.

His body was cold as he poured out blood from his mouth. I tried applying pressure but it seems he was stabbed deeply.

Who could have done this! His slow breath made me tensed and I didn't know what to do.

His eyes were almost shutting down as he wasn't himself. Sweat had bead on his forehead as more blood pumps out.

"Alan..." He weakly called and I cried begging him not to close his eyes.

It wasn't time to break down. I've got to be strong or I'd lose him.

"Hey, it's okay Darius... I'm here now" I declared sniffing and trying not to shed a tear again.

"Stay away from me Alan... arghh..." He growl, his hands weakly on the ground as his body vibrates.

I ignored his words and hastily tore off my shirt to tie the spot where he bleed and then with every strength in me, I carried him on my back to the car.

Hastily I drove him to the hospital, tensed and startled.

I had goosebumps in me as some paramedics hurried to help me get Darius out the car and place him on a stretcher.

They had placed an oxygen mask on him as they rolled him to the emergency unit. My body was covered in his blood and I was so perplexed and shivering.

I wasn't allowed to get in and had to stay at the waiting room, hoping that he survives.

I didn't call anyone just not to complicate things and all I could think about was Darius. I couldn't feel his pulse when I brought him over.

I just had to act like his guardian to get some documents signed for the approval of his surgery.

I had to give my statement to policeman who was called by the hospital. It seems as though it was an attempted murder.

I only narrated what happened and he questioned me if there was a CCTV camera in the house.

I had no idea and just gave them the permission to search the house for any information because whosoever did this to him has to pay.

The surgery was over as I saw the doctor and his team leaving the operation theatre.

I walk up to him before he'd reach me and I folded my lips, with tears in my eyes.

"Doctor, is he safe now?" I quickly asked as the surgery took like forever.

"It was successful but..."

"What?" I curiously asked with probing eyes at him.

He gulp hard and narrates the situation. I exhaled softly as the doctor walks away after consoling me.

I watch him transferred to the ICU and when I got the permit to see him, I hastily rushed to his ward.

He was in a vegetative state and still subconscious. I couldn't even come close.

If I hadn't gotten him arrested, if I was just a bit nice to him, perhaps, this fate wouldn't have befall him.

I was frozen where I stood for a while, weeping uncontrollably, I couldn't even hide it.

He'd hate me, he'd hate himself too but I'd be here for him.

I drew closer to him, went on my knees and held his palm, then kissed it.

"I'm sorry" I cried and buried my face on his arm, weeping.

I stayed by him, taking care of him, hoping he opens his eyes. I read him books, cut his nails when they grew, shaved his beards.

Sometimes, he had nightmares and I had to lay beside him, holding him close to myself and he'd feel better that way.

It's two months now and those eyes haven't said hi to me but I wouldn't give up.

Days turns into weeks and weeks into months and months into a year, I keep counting dates, months until he wakes up.

I should have killed him when I had the chance. I only tried to scare him but that was my mistake, belittling Bryan.

I just wanted him out after all we shared a history...All I could recall was growling as hits my legs with a heavy stone.

I was so weak surrendering to my fate as I growl, ordering him to stop and trying to hold him.

He wasn't alone, they were more, mocking me that I've become so soft because of Alan.

I was certain he drugged me with that drink because I wasn't myself.

Then his image came, I must to hallucinating to see Alan walking up to me to assist me after they've gone.

I believe I was dead as I saw was void thought and my body sinking in a vast ocean, stucked to a spot.

I didn't know how long I've black out but this is the longest I have slept. The sun ray settled on my forehead and I let out a yawn, intending to roll over but I couldn't.

It felt as though, something was pressing me down. I could feel a warm air hitting my back.
