Chapter 68

Jacob sat alone in his car, the raindrops tapping a gloomy melody on the roof. The dim glow of the streetlights played on the dashboard, casting shadows that imagined the upheaval in his mind.

He leaned back, closed his eyes, and allowed the memories to flood his thoughts.

A bittersweet smile played on his lips as he reminisced about the good times with Noemi.

The laughter, the shared dreams, and the battles they fought together for their love. He thought about the countless moments when their bond had felt unbreakable, standing strong against the storms of life.

But then, like a storm cloud, thoughts of his father crept in. The schemes, the manipulation, and the battles they fought against the oppressive weight of his father's disapproval.

Jacob had stood by Noemi's side, determined to hammer out a path of their own, away from the toxic influence of his family.

However, regret weighed on him as he reflected on his recent actions. He knew he had messed up.

The revelation about Noemi's family and the role Lisa played in it had unraveled the delicate fabric of trust they had built over the years. The little drop of rain outside seemed to echo the sorrow that clung to his heart.

As he brooded over everything, his mind involuntarily slipped into a flashback, a reel of memories playing before his eyes.

Jacob sat in his living room, the air was thick with tension. Noemi stood beside him, her hand tightly gripped in his, which was a silent sign of solidarity.

His father, Mr. Lionel Gareth, a stern and imposing figure, glared at them from across the room.

"You can not be serious about this, Jacob!" his father thundered. "This woman is not fit to be part of our family."

Noemi squared her shoulders, and her eyes became defiant. "Mr. Gareth, with due respect sir, I love your son, and we are committed to each other. We won't let anyone tear us apart."

His father's face turned awry with rage. "Love? Do you think that is enough? You are from a completely different world. You will never be accepted here!"

Jacob interjected, his voice firm. "Dad, I won't let you dictate who I love and spend my life with. Noemi is part of my world, and that is not going to change."

Mr. Lionel scoffed, dismissing their love with a wave of his hand. "We shall see about that."

"I love Noemi, and that is final. The earlier you acknowledge this the better for us all." Jacob said, his voice harsh.

He continued, "You only need to get to know her, give yourself the chance to like Noemi and she will make a great daughter-in-law to you."

Mr. Lionel Gareth hissed and left their presence angrily.

The memories of their defiant stand against his father's oppressive views evoked a sense of pride and sorrow.

They had faced the storm together, only to find themselves on the brink of another, fueled by the secrets that had been kept hidden.

As Jacob grappled with these thoughts, another memory surfaced, one that stirred conflicting emotions within him.

* * *

Lisa had come to him with an air of vulnerability, seeking solace in the midst of the turmoil that surrounded them, it was the time Noemi went out of town.

The lines between friendship and desire blurred, and in a moment of weakness, they succumbed to the passion that was poached beneath the surface.

Meanwhile, the vivid memory played in his mind like a movie, the scenes unfolding with unsettling clarity.

The touch, the whispered words, the weight of desire. It was a moment of weakness, a moment that now haunted him with guilt.

He had sex with Lisa that time and when he realized what he had done, he promised not to repeat what had happened between the two of them.

However, after two days, Jacob was coming back from a meeting and he was exhausted. He decided to relieve himself and so he branched Lisa's Coffee shop.

After parking his car properly, he went inside and made his request. In not less than ten minutes, the bartender came with what Jacob had requested.

Lisa from where she stood noticed Jacob and without thinking twice, she abandoned what she was doing and went to meet him.

It did not take her five minutes to have him inside her again and this time around at a secluded corner of her shop. It was a quick action between them.

Jacob could not hold on to his promise and honour the vow he exchanged with Noemi.

After the shameful act, Lisa felt happy and satisfied, while Jacob on the other hand was terribly ashamed. He couldn't resist Lisa for the second time.

He left the shop and went to his car without saying a word to Lisa. Jacob knew she wanted more but he just had to leave that minute.

In the car, the reality of his actions sank in. He felt a profound ache in his chest, knowing that he had betrayed Noemi in a way that went beyond the complexities of their tangled relationship.

As the rain completely stopped outside, Jacob opened his eyes, the weight of his decisions heavy on his shoulders.

He knew he had to confront the truth, to face the consequences of his actions, and seek redemption.

With a deep breath, he started the car and drove through the glistening streets, going back home. Each drop of rain mirrored the tears he refused to shed.

While he was driving, Jacob thought of what his father, Mr. Lionel Gareth would do if he got to know what had happened between him and his wife.

Now that his father has grown to like Noemi and made her his daughter. He would probably be disappointed in Jacob or take sides with his son after Jacob explains what made him get involved in such an embarrassing act in the first place.

After the long journey to his house, Jacob got to the entrance of the house and he drove in quietly and parked where he stopped.

As he was about to come down from his car, it was then he remembered Lisa. Everything that happened in the morning began to display in his mind as he stood before the door, ready to open it.

Could she still be inside? After the chaos she had caused.
