Chapter 54
"Shall we?" Lisa said, standing with her hands akimbo in front of Noemi.
Noemi was startled, she raised her head and saw Lisa standing before her. She was busy typing, and replying to Jacob's messages as they began to flirt. Among which was:
"Can you tell me what time you’ll unzip your pants, please?"
Noemi was engrossed, she would blush and smile whenever a new message notification popped up. She did not have an idea of how disappeared.
"Oh sorry Lisa, I don't know you are ready. I thought it was….." Noemi said, very curious.
"Thought it was who?" Lisa questioned anxiously.
A business card was on the table. Fortunately enough, Lisa did not get to see it and she drew it closer to her with her index finger. "It was no one, don't worry and start going. I promised my grandmother I wouldn't stay out late."
"Anyways, if you say so. We can leave now."
Noemi nodded, appreciating Lisa's concern. Together, they left the shop and made their way to the hospital.
As they approached the hospital's sterile corridors, Noemi could felt a sense of
unease. She was determined to visit Nathan.
The hospital room was quiet when they entered, and Nathan lay still in his bed, his eyes closed. Machines beeped softly in the background, monitoring his vital signs.
Together, Noemi and Lisa approached Nathan's bed, their concern were evident on their faces. Noemi reached out and gently squeezed Nathan's hand.
"Nathan," she whispered, "it is Noemi. We are here to visit you."
Nathan woke up, his eyes slowly opening. He smiled weakly when he saw Noemi and Lisa by his side. "Noemi, Lisa. You came to visit me. I am so glad to see you."
One could notice the relief in his voice, and Noemi couldn't help but feel a rush of emotion.
She leaned in and gave him a gentle hug, careful not to disturb any of the tubes connected to his body.
"We have been so worried about you," Lisa added, her eyes filled with genuine concern.
"Oh, I am grateful for that." he turned and replied.
Soon, a young lady came into the room. She greeted Noemi and Lisa with a warm smile as she went about her routine, and they responded. She is a Nurse and had come to check on Nathan.
The nurse entered Nathan's room, pushing a medical cart filled with various supplies. Noemi and Lisa stepped aside to give her space to work, their eyes never leaving Nathan.
Nathan watched her every move with a curious expression, and when the nurse came closer to check his vital signs, he seized the opportunity to inquire about Jacob.
"Nurse, do you happen to know the young child that was rushed in yesterday?" Nathan asked, his voice tinged with urgency.
The nurse paused in her tasks and looked at him, she wore a thoughtful expression on her face.
"Mia? Oh, you must be referring to the patient in the room next door."
Nathan's eyes widened with surprise. "Yes, next door. Is she alright? I need to speak with her."
The nurse continued her work, adjusting the IV drip and took a few notes on her chart.
"She seems to be stable, but I can not provide you with too many details. Patient confidentiality and all. You will have to wait for the doctor to visit." she explained.
"Okay, thank you for letting me know." Nathan said, understanding the nurse's constraints.
As the nurse finished her rounds, she administered the prescribed medication and made sure Nathan was as comfortable as possible.
"When is he going to go home?" Noemi moved forward to ask the nurse.
"I am only a Nurse and I don't have the power to determine that, only the doctor." the nurse said and returned to what she was doing.
Noemi and Lisa exchanged glances, "Okay, thanks for the head up." Lisa responded.
Once she was satisfied with his condition, she bid everyone farewell and left the room.
However, Noemi and Lisa approached Nathan, they were curious. Nathan looked at them with a sense of urgency, like someone ready to share his findings.
"Are you hungry? I have brought this for you to eat." Lisa asked, carrying out a food flask from a bag.
With a happy smile, he nodded and collected the food. Nathan felt loved but it did not last when he remembered his betrayal act towards Noemi.
They helped me comfortably and fed him. After this, they gist and laughed, it was a lovely atmosphere.
"How we could continue, but we have to get going now Nathan." Noemi rose to leave.
"Recover fast so we can stop coming here all the time." Lisa said jokingly, embracing him in a hug.
Noemi did the same and they left the hospital to their various homes. By the time Noemi got home, Miss Shane had left and she met her grandmother seeing scenes.
Without wanting to disturb her, Noemi greeted and passed by her side. She headed straight to the kitchen to prepare dinner for them.
Meanwhile, Victor's voice crackled with excitement as he spoke on the phone with Jacob. "Sir Jacob, you will not believe what I just stumbled upon. I have got something big for you."
Jacob, who had been anxiously awaiting any lead on James, leaned in closer to the phone, his heart racing with anticipation. "What is it, Victor? Tell me everything, don't leave a part untold."
Victor wasted no time in explaining, his words coming out in a rush.
"I saw James, and I took some photos of him. I even got shots of his car with the plate number. He was at a shop and I got everything on my phone. This could be the evidence we need."
Jacob's eyes widened with disbelief and relief at the same time.
He had been on edge ever since the attack that had left him in the hospital, unsure of who was behind it and why. This new discovery could be a turning point.
"Victor, welcome, you are a lifesaver," Jacob said, his voice filled with gratitude. "Send me those photos right away."
"Thanks boss, I will send them now." Victor said.
Victor promised to do so, and they hung up the call. Instantly, Jacob began pacing back and forth, his mind racing with the possibilities of what the photos might reveal. He knew he had to act ASAP.
It did not take long for Victor to send the images to Jacob's phone. As Jacob opened the photos and analysed them closely, he felt a mix of feelings.
The images showed James entering the shop, James's car, the plate number on the car, and James coming out of and entering his car.
With the images on Jacob's phone, he contacted his trusted investigative team at his office.
They were a group of skilled professionals who had worked on multiple cases for Jacob over the years.
Jacob wasted no time to explain the situation to them, emphasising the importance of the information he needed.
"Guys, I need you to work your magic on these photos. We need to find out whatever we can, It's crucial."
The team assured Jacob that they would do their best to uncover the truth. They took the photos and began the process of enhancing and analysing them.
Their expertise allowed them to zoom in on the plate number and the obscured face of James revealing more details.
As the hours passed, the team made progress. They managed to identify James and his location and gather information about his background.
They also knew more about the plate number registration and its details. It appeared that he had a history of involvement in illegal activities.
When Jacob received the findings from his team, he was relieved. The information they had gathered shed light on his background and his movements.
With this on ground, Jacob felt on top of the game, he needed not to confront James again all he needed was monitoring. So he can counterattack any of his future moves.
