Chapter 20 I remember
Angela's eyes grew as wide as saucers, Magic?
She was looking at Celestine as if she had suddenly grown horns but the woman was wearing an innocent look. She tried to ask but nothing came out of her mouth, in her head, she was thinking that this woman was really crazy.
How could she, Angela, an ordinary human being who bled red when cut, possess any magic? Not unless this dreamscape dimension was just like in the dreams where everything was possible, then she could believe. Lately the word supernatural and magic had been going around like common place but where she came from a magical being would be considered newsworthy. She then remembered that Celestine had also been talking of werewolves and that she; Angela was one of those. She held her head with both hands; the world was spinning at a pace she was not comfortable with. To make matters worse, Celestine was talking about an unlocking - as if magic was something to be locked and unlocked – her magic.
"Forgive me but, are you crazy? I am yet to come to terms with Grandma Alice being a witch and now here you are asking me to become like her and then worse than that, you tell me lam a werewolf. This place has really done a number on you," Angela was blabbering not sure what she was supposed to do. Could it be that this woman was crazy or could there be an ounce of truth?
"What does your heart tell you?"
Angela jumped surprised to hear Celestine talk as if she could read her mind.
"What are you, a mind reader?" Asked irritated and tired of always being caught unaware every time someone decided to invade the privacy of her mind.
"No child, when you have lived in the dreamscape as long as I have, am able to hear your thoughts."
"It is unnerving and irritating as well, I'd like to have my thoughts to myself"
"You will get used to living a different life, you have a heavy crown to wear my child, Celestine looked at Angela sadly.
That made Angela look up suddenly, what did she mean?
"All in due time Kharisi, all in due time," she sighed.
"Let's go back to what you mentioned before, what do you mean to say when you talk about unlocking magic in me," Angela asked more out of fear of what would happen to her the moment Celestine unlocked her magic, than out of curiosity.
"You need to know first why you had to be cloaked and your magic suppressed darling. The day I met Athena the goddess, that time when I wanted to take my life because I was mourning the loss of my mother and your father, she told me something about the child I was carrying that made it impossible to go ahead with my plan. You see, she told me that if I died I with my plan. You see, she told me that if I died I would be killing the moon goddess reincarnate, the one thing the world needed to bring balance to it. She also showed me the person that killed my mother; he was a shape-shifter who could take any look he wanted. He could appear as a woman or man, and none would be the wiser. This particular person took on my father's look and had even managed to dupe my mother for years. I feel the only person he had not really been able to fool was Zander, the boy mother adopted when she found him abandoned I the forest. He had insisted that he should be killed but mother was a stubborn woman, she brought him back with her and trained him to be a super warrior."
"You know Zander?" Angela couldn't help but ask.
Celestine looked at her daughter and smiled, "He is like my small brother, I take you two have met?" she asked her with a knowing smile.
"Humph, he irritates me," Angela declared.
A beautiful melodious sound came from Celestine as she laughed; Angela was unable to decide whether to rebuke her mother for finding her irritation towards Zander something to laugh about or to admire her melodious laugh. She instead did neither but sat on the bed and pouted.
Celestine went and sat with her on the bed, taking both her hands in her own. She caressed the back of her hands with her thumbs without saying a word, she looked to be deep in thought and troubled. "Mother had been living with an imposter for more than ten years but did not even realize it he had used their time together even realize it, he had used their time together to weaken her magical abilities and to wipe her memories of my father bit by bit until all the love she had for him was forgotten. You see, when two werewolves mate, their bond allows them to mind link, feel each other's pain, and to know when one is in danger. Because this imposter knew that mother would know if he killed father, he kidnapped and hid him in the dungeons where he rots to this day." Celestine was crying openly, her sobs were getting louder as she recalled the pain of knowing that her father, the emperor of Grundolf, was locked in the dungeons and none was the wiser.
Angela did not try to comfort her with words but she allowed her to cry as much as she could until she was spent. She did not understand why but she felt the pain of her mother, knew the extent of her hurt and all she wanted was to take her pain away. She held her hand wishing the pain she was feeling would go away and that she would find a reason to smile.
Celestine dropped Angela's hands as if they were on fire and jumped from where they were sitting to stand across from her. She had a shocked look on her face; Angela too had jumped from where she was suiting thinking that someone was attacking them. When Celestine saw the shock on Angela's face, she face palmed herself and clicked her tongue, "I'm so sorry child, and I was shocked. I did not mean to alarm you, I'm fine, but how do you know how to share calm feelings?" she asked.
"What?" Angela asked with a blank look on her face. She did not understand what Celestine was asking her.
"Look, I was upset a moment ago but just now when you held my hands, a calming energy enveloped me and consoled me, making me forget the pain I was going through. I thought I was doing this all by myself but I realized that the energy was coming off from you and it was so powerful. Who taught you to do that?" Celestine thought somebody had taught Angela to use her magic and suspected Carita. She was about to feel betrayed when Angela spoke.
"I do not know what you are talking about; she told her, eyes wide with innocence.
"I believe you, what else can you do with your magic? She asked curious to know but Angela shrugged and said,
"I do not understand half the things I hear from you yet you want to insist I know something I don't" her irritation was just about something I don't" her irritation was just about to rise to the surface.
"I sincerely apologize for my ignorance, I did not mean to make you feel mistrusted," Celestine could tell that Angela inherited Liam's fiery temper. She was also concerned about her magic, it was connected to her emotions, and if she was unstable, she might bring more harm than good. She was also desperate; she had learned of her father's imprisonment too late that she could do nothing except get herself killed. Therefore, she had decided to wait in the dreamscape for seventeen years until Angela was of age so that she could help rescue him and others who were with him in the dungeons like uncle Jasper.
As she was contemplating, Angela was observing her intently and just like that, she started hearing her thoughts. Her mouth was started hearing her thoughts. Her mouth was wide open, surprised to hear what her mother was thinking, "You think I'm unstable emotionally?" she asked incredulous that she would even think of her like that. Celestine was more shocked than Angela was, not because she could hear what she was thinking but because even before she unlocked her abilities, they were already manifesting.
"No child, that's not what I was thinking"
Angela did not reply, instead she started pacing around the room. What her mother had said had an effect on her but she did not want to admit it. She agreed with her mother, what if she was unstable emotionally. What would happen to those who came across her wrath? Would she be a danger to other people?
"No child, you are very stable. Just look at what you've had to endure since your grandma Alice went missing yet you are showing how strong you are by thinking rationally and not attacking the culprit who kidnapped and tried to kill her?"
"How do you know?"
"We have been watching"
Angela looked at Celestine with a blank look; she contemplated asking her another question but decided against it. She was feeling more and more nervous, something was not right.
Celestine was also fading away from the dreamscape; she could not go just yet. Angela tried reaching out for her but her grip went through her, she did not know what to do yet she did not want to lose Celestine before she could tell her the rest of what happened.
Celestine was saying something but could not be heard, she was waving at Angela frantically, but Angela did not understand what she wanted.
She was about to fade away completely when Angela screamed out loud and held onto her skirt before she could go. They both fell down with a thump, out of breath, their hearts racing wildly after the near death experience they had just gone through.
When Celestine came to, she gripped Angela's head and started to say an incantation that Angela did not understand. A blinding white light passed through in her vision and then she started to feel light headed. She slumped on the bed and lost consciousness, while Celestine continued to make incantations. She would jerk in her sleep and then start mumbling but did not wake until Celestine finished.
"Wake up child, it is done"
Angela opened her eyes, she felt different, her eyes could see better, she could smell a lot of scents; she could even hear her mother's heartbeat. She turned to look at her mother to ask her what had just happened but instead scenes from her childhood flooded her mind.
She was crying as she saw what she had forgotten, she saw herself in the human realm as a child, she even saw Missy her friend. She was sobbing, the connection she had been lacking between her and her mother could be felt. She ran into her arms and sobbed then after some moments she said,
"Mother, I remember!"
