CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FOURTY SIX

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FOURTY SIX

VIVIAN'S POV

The burning from the iron rod stopped hurting earlier than it was supposed to. I was shocked but I didn't want to bring any attention to myself. It was almost like I had no more ideas about how my body even fucking worked. But all I could do was hope for the best from every single angle.

I spent the day before my execution, sleeping and waking up. I didn't have anything to do in that little cell. And Alpha Logan had specifically told all of them not to bring any meals for me. I didn't know if I was okay with it or not, but then, I didn't have the choice to complain. Things were taking a drastic turn and at some point, I wanted to end everything that we had planned when Enzo had visited. But he was sure that no harm was going to come to me. All I could do was have faith in him. The final part of the plan was so close, and shivers ran through my spine every single time I thought about it.

“Good morning,” one of the guards suddenly said, pushing a glass of water towards me. I didn't bother even touching the water. There was no way I was going to drink anything that one of them suddenly brought when I was supposed to be starved to death by Alpha Logan.

“Who sent it?” I asked.

“Alpha Logan,” he said calmly. I couldn't stop the laugh that came out of my throat. It was definitely poisoned. What did he want? Did he want me dying before I even went out for the execution? Did he still want to seem nice to the people? I was sure that the news about my execution would have spread. Of course, the guards were heavy gossips with the maids as well.

I missed Miles more than anything. I could only hope that Amelia didn't do anything that would put the both of them in trouble or bring any attention to themselves.

The guard stared at me weirdly. “You better have the water. You don't know if that's the last thing you would have before you die.”

If only he took the time to smell the chicken that was coming from the cell. Enzo never disappointed. He was going past the guards every single time, and they never seemed to even notice. At some point, I started to get overfed, and I had to ask him to reduce the amount of food that he brought in. But he never stopped. He only continued, telling me that those were orders from Alpha Kyle.

I didn't know that, that was how much he wanted Alpha Logan brought to his knees. But he didn't have to bother. It was going to happen. Soon enough.

By mid-day, Alpha Logan himself came. There was a smirk on his face as he opened the cell door down. “Are you awake?” He asked, and I tried as much as I could, not to give him a smile back.

If only he knew what was coming for him in a few hours. “Come on,” he said, gesturing for me to stand up. “It's time for you to get executed.”

I cocked my head to the side. “And I'm just so special that you had to come and pick me up with your own hands.” A small frown appeared on his face, but I could tell that he tried not to do anything about it. The best he could do was send a slap across my face. And the best it could do was sting. Nothing else.

I was already used to their abuse. And I knew that Anna was tired of it all. It wouldn't be long until she ran away.

I stood up anyway, walking out of the cell in the most elegant manner that I could. The guards pushed me forward, while Alpha Logan walked in front of me. They didn't lead me outside through the normal entrance. At some point, I got worried. But then, I saw the sky, and I calmed down. As they brought me out to the execution grounds, I spotted the people in the pack that had come to watch me. It was almost like it was every single pack member that was there.

I looked through the crowd, trying to find Amelia or Anna. They weren't there. The guards pushed me forward as I continued my search. I spotted Ricardo, but Enzo was nowhere to be found. I could tell that he was already getting to work.

One of the guards pushed me up, in the same way that they held me to the chair in the cell. My hands were being tied to the pole with chains.  But this time, it was to have my throat slit in front of hundreds of people. At least my child wasn't there to watch something like that.

As I stood on the exact spot, I watched as the executioner sharpened his swords and knives. It was almost as if they were going to have my body in pieces after the whole thing.. I didn't have any family to fight for me anyway. I spotted my mother. As soon as my eyes contacted with her, she looked away like I was the most disgusting thing in the world. I knew what she was thinking. I was a disgrace to her.

The only sound that filled my ears were iron sharpening iron. The faces of people on the crowd were blurry and for the first time, I didn't have any atom of hope. The people that were supposed to be there, weren't. Didn't Amelia know about the execution? I had barely finished thinking when I saw someone come in front of me, with Miles.

“Tell them that you didn't do it already!” She screamed, with tears in her eyes. Her expression made all my list hope get restored. I looked down at Miles, who waved at me with his tiny hands.

“Mama!” He screamed in an excited voice, and every single head in the crowd was turned in his direction.

“Is she the mother of the child?” People were starting to ask.

“Alpha Logan can't just kill the mother of this little boy. She has to be innocent.”

“Shut it!” Alpha Logan screamed, and everybody kept quiet immediately. “She will be executed today, and today alone. She had left the pack. She refused to treat her mate, when she has the power. She has been killing the people that had kept the pack together.”

For the first time in a long time, I spotted Rome in the crowd. There was an expression on his face that I couldn't quite read. I looked away immediately. Looking at him reminded me of memories that I didn't even want to think about.

I looked back at Amelia. “The time is near, Amelia,” I said, and she frowned. “Do what you have to do.”

I had told her what the phrase meant a few days ago. It took her a few seconds to remember. As soon as she did, she headed out of the execution grounds. A smile was fully plastered on my face.

“Is there any kind of evidence that she had done it?” An elder asked Alpha Logan.

“This whole thing started ever since she returned to the pack.”

“Well, that doesn't mean she's responsible.” The elder argued.

“And how about treating Derek? She's very much responsible.”

The whole crowd went silent one more time. It wasn't going to be long anymore.

“Kill her already!” He screamed. Just as the guards covered my face with the cloth and the executioner raised his sword, I closed my eyes, hoping that the goddess wasn't going to let me down at a time like this.

“Alpha! More than half of the guards are dead!” Enzo and a guard came, screaming. A guard quickly took the clothes off my head, just in time to see Alpha Logan's face turn chalk white.

“And I've been here with you the whole time, wasn't I?” I asked, trying so hard not to smile.

He looked back at me, and then the pack. He left the execution grounds immediately, as he went out to do something that suddenly seemed to be more important than the execution.

ALPHA LOGAN'S POV

I hurried out of the execution grounds, straight into the priestess' lair. She looked startled as soon as she spotted me. “Alpha, is everything okay?”

I grabbed her neck immediately, slamming her to the wall. “Tell me the truth!” I screamed.

“The truth about what?” She asked, and I could feel her panicking right in front of me. She was shaking.

“Tell me the fucking truth! Who has been planning attacks on the pack? Who are you trying to protect?!”

Her fear slowly turned into something else. A one sided smile. A smirk. I grabbed her neck, pressing down even harder. She didn't seem to be fazed.

“It's just your deeds catching up with you, Alpha,” she said in the calmest voice that made my joints weak immediately.

What the fuck was she talking about?

“What sins? Who is killing people?” I asked, but she refused to even answer me anymore. The only thing she did was laugh even more.

I couldn't even begin to fathom how I became a laughing stock right in my own pack where I lived.

I pushed the priestess away, trying to focus on other things. I headed out of her lair, and I could feel the tension in the air. Who would have tried to take revenge? I went to the next person close to me, that I knew I was treating badly.

Derek was still laying in his bed. And for the first time, he was asleep. He couldn't have been the one either. I mean, he could barely even moce his fingers. How was he going to be the one to plan attacks on the pack?

I hurried back downstairs. My heart was beating fast against my ribcage. I could barely breathe. There was something in my head that told me that things were about to get bad for me. It was almost like I could smell my end. But that couldbt be happening. Everything was under control right?

The thing was that the pack was now so much more vulnerable to attacks, and I couldn't risk any of that. This pack was all I had worked for, for the most of my life. I couldn't just let it go down the drain like it was nothing. There had to be more that I could do. Something that I could to stop it.

Anna.

“Where the hell is Anna?” I asked the guards and they shrugged. Every single person was losing respect for me in the pack.

I went to the room that she had once shared with Mark. But even that was empty as well. It was cleared with no atom of forgiveness in it. When did she run away? And how didn't I know?

Anna barely knew her way around the pack. Meaning there was someone else that was helping her. My mind was constantly going to Vivian, but she had been in the cell the whole time. Unless there was someone else helping her. But who? I was still lost in thoughts when I heard growling. Familiar growling.

We were being attacked!
