Chapter 66: 6
While Amy was lying in her room, staring into space, she was thinking if it was the right decision to allow Zack to court her again. She couldn’t help but smile as she remembered the sweet memories of their past.
"What are you doing to me, Zack? Why do you still have this effect on me?” Amy whispered while covering her face with the blanket, her cheeks reddening. “Maybe, I still love you... just like before,” she softly said to herself.
Before long, Amy fell asleep while thinking about Zack. It was almost eight in the morning when she woke up the next day. She went straight to her children’s room to check if they were awake. “Baby?” she whispered to her daughter Aliah.
“M-Mommy, I want to sleep some more,” her daughter said with a pout, still sleepy. “Baby, you have class later, right? And also, Dada will fetch you later. Don’t you want that?”
Amy said sweetly to her daughter. The child suddenly got up
when she heard about her daddy.
“You, huh, you're starting to get me upset,” she jokingly said to her daughter while pretending to pout. Her daughter then hugged her and started kissing her on the cheek. “Mommy, we love you too, me and Josh,” her daughter said sweetly.
Okay, go take a bath now, okay? Mommy will cook your favorite food,” she told her children. Amy then went out and headed to the kitchen.
While Amy was walking to the kitchen, she didn’t expect to see Zack busy cooking. He was wearing a simple apron and seemed serious as he stirred the eggs in the pan. Amy couldn’t help but stare at him.
"Good morning," Zack greeted with a smile on his lips when he noticed Amy. "The princess of the house is awake."
"What are you doing here?" Amy asked, trying to hold back a smile. "Why are you up so early?"
"I promised the kids I'd make breakfast today. Their favorite is pancakes, right?" Zack answered while transferring the cooked pancakes to the plate. "And besides, I also want to surprise you."
"Really now? Looks like you're sucking up to the kids," Amy responded as if she was sulking, but the happiness in her eyes couldn’t be denied.
Zack walked up to Amy and slightly leaned his face closer to hers. "I also want to court you," he said softly. Amy froze and quickly looked away, her cheeks turning red.
"You’re really crazy," Amy replied as she helped him set the table. "Don’t act like that, the kids might see us."
"Why? Is it wrong to love you again?" Zack asked, his voice now serious. Amy couldn’t answer. Instead, she looked at Zack and felt her heart race.
Before she could respond, Aliah and Josh suddenly ran toward them, cheerfully shouting, "Daddy, Mommy, we're hungry!"
The moment was cut short, but despite the chaos of the children, Amy could feel the warmth of Zack's gaze. It seemed he was making her feel that his feelings for her hadn't changed—and he was ready to prove that, no matter what happened.
While Amy was busy setting the dining table, Zack carried Aliah and helped Josh sit at their seats. The children's smiles seemed enough to fill the warmth in the whole kitchen.
"Wow, Daddy, you cooked this?" Josh asked while looking at the pancakes with chocolate syrup and fresh fruits. "You're really good, Dada!"
"Of course! For my favorite kids and their beautiful mommy," Zack replied, purposely looking at Amy, which made her turn to him and sigh. "You're annoying," Amy whispered softly, but couldn’t help but smile.
While the children were eating, Zack sat next to Amy and deliberately pulled his chair closer. "So, Amy, what’s your plan for later? Do you have plans or can we spend time together with the kids?" he asked, clearly hoping Amy would agree.
Amy didn’t respond right away. "I don’t know about you, Zack. But, if you want to spend time with the kids, ask them," she replied, but Zack could feel the softness in her tone.
"Dada, we want to go to the park!" Aliah shouted, looking at Zack. "Then you can buy us ice cream, okay?"
"Anything for my princess and prince," Zack replied, followed by a wink. The children were thrilled, but Amy just silently watched. She couldn’t deny that despite everything, her trust in Zack was slowly returning.
After eating, Zack volunteered to clean up the dishes. While he was washing the plates, Amy couldn’t help but think deeply. What if my decision to give Zack a chance is right? But... what if I get hurt again?
"Amy," Zack suddenly called, which surprised her. "I just want to say something."
"What is it?" Amy asked, trying to maintain her composure.
"Thank you," Zack said seriously while looking at her. "For letting me be here, for letting me try again. I won’t waste this chance."
Amy was stunned. She didn’t know how to respond, but she felt that Zack’s words came from the heart. She turned around to hide the tears welling up in her eyes. ‘Maybe, I still love you, Zack... just like before,’ she thought.
"Hurry, Mommy! We’re ready!" the children shouted from the living room. The tension between them was broken. Amy wiped her eyes and smiled. "Okay, Zack, don’t let your kids wait," she said.
Zack nodded and accompanied Amy out of the house, along with their cheerful children. As they walked, Zack couldn’t help but hold Amy’s hand. "Someday, Amy... I will never let you go," he softly said, which made Amy shake her head, but she secretly smiled.
That day became joyful for all of them, but for Amy, it seemed that her heart was starting to open again for Zack
