Chapter 130 An accident
Chapter 130 An accident
Scarlett's POV.
I didn't know where I was going, I just drove out of the compound before Tom could stop me.
I didn't care. I was done caring about his rules.
I ended up driving myself to a beach across the town, parking the car and walking barefooted towards the water while feeling the breeze.
My body became calm, every anger dying down like it never existed.
I sat down on the sandy floor, letting the water wash my feet while I took deep breaths. I closed my eyes to feel the breeze and enjoy the serenity of the moment.
I knew it might last for just a while but I was still going to enjoy every bit.
There were people around, their voices distant as I had my eyes closed and my mind focused all in one place.
The sound of laughter mixed with the sound of someone gurgling made me snap my eyes open.
I looked in the direction of the water and there was a kid in the water, body going up and down as he tried to keep his face afloat.
“Mommy” His voice was not so loud but I could hear it. I looked in the direction of where he was facing to call his Mom but the woman was with a man who I presumed to be her husband, both of them far away from here, having fun.
I stood up, contemplating whether to grab their attention so they could get the boy out or whether to just get him out.
When I turned to where the boy was again, I could no longer see him anywhere.
“Oh, no” I muttered, running towards the water without a second thought.
“Where's Kelvin?” I heard the woman's panicked voice. She was just noticing that he was gone.
I jumped into the water, looking everywhere in search of him. It didn't take long before I saw him and I quickly swam over to where he was, getting him onto my shoulder before diving back out.
“Oh, my! That's Kelvin!’ the woman yelled when I was out with the boy, her voice raised and filled with panic.
I laid Kelvin on the floor, shaking his face and calling his name but no reply came.
His mother also got to me, acting restless and panicked while the man tried to hold her.
“Kelvin?” I shook the boy's face again but he didn't reply.
Gently, I pressed his chest, pressing hard on the vital point of his chest and he coughed, eyes fluttering open slowly.
“Oh, Kelvin!” His mother pulled him into a hug while the man also hugged the both of them. I was right, they were family.
I breathed out in relief, glad that the boy was fine.
I stood up, walking away from them when they all appeared in front of me.
“Thank you very much, Miss.” The woman said. “I'm really grateful”
I let out a small smile. “The next time, be wary of how far the child goes”
“We will, Miss. Thank you” the father said.
I smiled again and my eyes lowered to the boy who looked at me while also bowing his head slightly.
I ruffled his hair and bent down to let my face stay at the same close range as his.
“Kelvin.” I called. “The next time you are in danger like that, shout louder so your Mom can hear”
“Yes, Miss,” he replied.
I ruffled his hair once again and went back to take a seat on the sandy floor. My whole body was wet and I was starting to feel a little bit cold but I wasn't ready to go back yet. I wasn't done watching the scenery of the calm and cool beach.
Suddenly, I felt the weight of something dropping on my shoulder and that made me turn my face in confusion.
A blanket had been placed on my shoulder, easing the pain of my shivering body.
Before I could turn to look at who had done that, someone came to sit beside me. It was Christian.
I looked surprised and I couldn't hide it. “What are you doing here?”
He turned his face to me, a smile on his face. “I followed you”
“I mean it when I said you weren't going out alone” his face suddenly darkened.
I scoffed, turning away from him and staring at the water like I had been doing.
“You were great when you rescued that boy.” He said and I snapped my face to him immediately once again. “When I didn't see you come out of the water for minutes, I almost became scared”
“Since when have you gotten here?” I asked, blinking my eyes.
“Since you parked the car” he responded.
I took my face away from him and shook my head. I was being stalked and I didn't even realize.
Silence took over, Christian and I only staring as the water moved back and forth.
“Scarlett’’ Christian called gently and at that moment, I tried to recall if he had ever called my name so gently before.
I turned to him and raised a brow. “What is it?”
“Can you just do as I say?” He said. “It's all for the best”
He was calm, his voice warm and soothing but I wasn't getting deceived by that.
“Why do I have to stop working? Your team leaders want to evaluate me this week. They need me to plan the vacation and prove my worth” I paused and sighed. “I'm going to do just that but you'll replace my spot?”
I scoffed. “I really don't understand why you are doing that”
A phone call disrupted the moment and shut my next words up. It was Christian's phone, he looked at the phone then back at me before he picked up.
When he picked up, he said nothing till the call ended.
Again, he looked at me.
“That's your Mom” he said and I blinked, wondering why Mom had called Christian. “Your father got into an accident”
