Chapter Forty-Two - Mine!

Maya

I wake up and reach for Conrad, but he isn’t next to me. I searched for my cell and saw it was just after nine. I am still tired because I had a restless night. I kept getting lost in my thoughts as Conrad fell asleep beside me. Meeting his ex was like a reminder to me that I shouldn’t be with someone like him. She was so beautiful. I could tell she came from money like him. She was also confident, and I assume Conrad’s parents must have loved her for their son if she was still attending important events with his family, even after breaking up a couple of years previously. I can’t help but feel like shit. Conrad has taken a huge step down from someone like her to me. I can’t stop from feeling self-conscious.

I never brought it up again last night. I wanted to act like I was fine after such a great night, but I think Conrad knew I wasn’t. I was thankful he didn’t bring it up. Today, though, I am not going to let it bother me. I want to enjoy the rest of our time here.

I sigh, run my fingers through my hair and climb out of bed. I pull one of Conrad’s hoodies over my pjs and go to search for him. When I exit the bedroom, I hear voices and laughing. One was Conrad, and I am sure the other was Bridget. Wait, is she here? Why would she be here?

I follow the voices and find Conrad out on the balcony. He was leaning on the railing. I realised there was no sign of Bridget on the balcony, so she must be down on the sand. I take a deep breath and walk out.

“There you are, handsome.” I coo and stand next to him.

“Good morning, beautiful.” He smiles and kisses my cheek.

I glance down and see Bridget. She is only in a bikini. She has either been swimming, or it is for Conrad’s benefit. She makes eye contact with me but doesn’t seem too pleased to see me. Why, I don’t know; I haven’t done anything to her.

“Marine, hello again.”

Did she really just wrong-name me? I had to stop from laughing at the pathetic attempt. I didn’t have a problem with her, not until now.

“It is Mia,” I say sweetly.

She smiles at me, but it is fake, and she quickly focuses back on Conrad. Her phoney smile soon turns real, and she plays with a strand of her hair while talking with him. Is she really trying to flirt with him in front of me?

“My offer still stands, Conrad. You should stop by for a drink and a catch-up for old-time sake.”

Her words come out in more of a purr, and she bites on her lower lip. This woman can’t be serious! She seemed sweet last night, but I guess she was either pretending or, after seeing Conrad again, she decided she missed him. I clench my fists at my side and bite my tongue to stop from saying something to her.

“No, sorry. We already have plans for the weekend.” Conrad says and wraps his arm around me.

“What a shame. I will give you a call when we are back in the city, and maybe we can arrange something,” she replies sweetly.

“Maybe.”

Conrad either doesn’t realise what she is trying to do, or he isn’t interested in her. Bridget looks disappointed. What did she expect? For him to throw himself at her?

“Okay. Bye then.” She replies and turns, walking away.

I roll my eyes and shake my head. I really hope she doesn’t come back around here. Conrad turns to me, seeming a little confused.

“Why did you roll your eyes?”

“Conrad, she was flirting and hitting on you,” I reply.

“No, she wasn’t.”

He really didn’t realise, did he?

“Trust me, she was.”

“Really? I am sorry, sweetheart, I didn’t even notice.” He sighs.

“It is fine, but she better stay away. Unless it is what you want?” I whisper.

I regret the words the second they come from my lips. Conrad grips my hips and pulls me close to him.

“I am not interested in Bridget, Maya. I promise. I only want you, no one else.” He promises and kisses me softly.

He hugs me to his chest. I slip my arms around him and bury my face in his chest, “If she comes back around, I will tell her to leave straight away.”

“I am sorry. You must think I am some crazy, jealous girlfriend,” I whisper.

I don’t want to come across as that.

“You aren’t coming across as crazy, beautiful. I think I would be more worried if you didn’t care she was flirting with me. I won’t lie; I kind of like you are jealous and protective over me.”

I can see him trying to fight back a smirk.

I laugh loudly and playfully slap his chest, “Really?”

He doesn’t hold it back any longer and allows the smirk to rise on his lips, “Yes.”

I snake my arms around his neck and kiss him, “Well, you are mine. No one else’s. You belong to me.” I mumble into the kiss.

“Mmm, I do, uh?”

I pull back from the kiss, “You do. She can’t have you.” I pout.

Conrad dips his head down to kiss along my neck, “All yours.”

I moan softly and entangle my fingers into his hair.

Conrad gently sucks on my neck, and I know he will leave a mark on it, “Mmm, and you are all mine.” he groans.

I whimper and nod eagerly. Any thoughts of Bridget soon disappear from my mind, and I concentrate on my man’s lips all over me. Conrad backs away, much to my dismay.

“Hey.” I huff.

“We should get some breakfast.” He says innocently and walks inside.

“Conrad,” I whine and cross my arms over my chest.

He stops and turns to me, smirking, “What is wrong, angel?”

“You know what is wrong. You can’t get me all fired and walk away.”

“You need food for energy, sweetness and then I will give you whatever you want and need.”

I raise my brow at him, “Promise?”

He nods, “I promise.”

“Fine.” I groan.

Conrad chuckles and disappears into the kitchen. I take a moment to pull myself together and follow him in. I swear it better be a quick breakfast. Conrad is prepping for breakfast.

“Are you okay, beautiful?” he asks smugly.

I glare at him, “Yes. I am fine. And if you don’t stop being so smug, neither of us will be getting laid this morning.” I state firmly.

He laughs loudly, “Sure if you insist.”

“You don’t believe me?”

He shakes his head, “You won’t last all morning without needing me.”

He sounds so confident in himself.

It is my turn to smirk, “Challenge accepted.”

Conrad soon doesn’t look so smug, “You wouldn’t?”

“But I would, and I will. You have no one to blame but yourself.”

“Mean.” He whines.

I am going to have some fun with this. I hope I can mess with and tease him when it comes down to it because it isn’t something I have done before. It can’t be that hard.
