Chapter Forty - Princess treatment.

Maya

It has been a perfect day. We had spent it exploring, swimming and relaxing. It really is beautiful here. It isn’t the type of place I belong, but I haven’t let that get to me today. I can pretend for the weekend. No one knows me here.

Conrad had booked us a table for tonight at one of the fancy restaurants. I told him I would be fine cooking or ordering takeaway food because I didn’t bring any clothes with me that would be suitable for dining in the place he had booked. Of course, that didn’t matter; Conrad found another solution. He bought me a beautiful dress and heels to wear tonight. It is a beautiful, sleeveless, burgundy one that stops just at my knees. I could never afford to buy myself a dress like it. I was not happy when I found out the price. He was fly. He hid the prices from me, and I only found out when he paid for them at the counter. I didn’t want to cause a scene, so I never said anything until we were away from the store. It didn’t matter how much I whined about it; he would distract me with kisses his charming smile, or find ways to make me laugh. In the end, I gave up and said thank you.

I stand in front of the mirror, deciding whether I look good in the dress. I wasn’t sure—a dress this pretty isn’t made for the average little me to wear. I sigh and just stare at myself.

“Maya, you look beautiful in it,” Conrad says, appearing behind me.

I give him a small smile, “You have to say that.”

He rests his hands on my hips and kisses over my shoulder, “I mean it, angel. You look stunning in it.” he smiles.

“Thank you.”

I need to get away from the mirror before I spiral. I walk away, but I don’t get far before he grabs me and pulls me back to him, holding me against his chest.

“I know you don’t believe, but you do.” He repeats and kisses me softly.

When we parted, I smiled, “And you look very handsome.”

He was dressed in a pair of grey trousers and a tight-fitted shirt with a formal blazer.

“Thanks, sweetheart.” He replies and kisses my forehead.

I close my eyes and draw in a breath. He is so damn sweet. Any time he calls me sweetheart, it gives me butterflies. We pull apart, and I slip into my shoes and coat.

Conrad’s phone rings, and he answers it.

“Great, thank you. We will be right out,” he says and hangs up.

He has ordered a town car to pick us up. He was going to drive but changed his mind. The restaurant where we are having dinner is about a half an hour drive.

“Ready?” he asks, and I nod.

Conrad rests his hand on the small of my back and guides us out to the waiting car. Being the gentleman he always is, he opens the door for me and gives me a hand into the car before sliding in next to me. He always treats me good. I never really understood the saying princess treatment, but I get it now because that is how he makes me feel.

The driver gets us on the way. Conrad places his hand on my knee, and I rest my head on his shoulder. He kisses the top of my head, and I snuggle closer into him. He really had become safe place recently. I dread we need to go back to the city in a couple of days. Things here are more relaxed, and I have no worries.

I take his hand in mine and link our fingers.

We had gotten seated at our table, which was outside. The restaurant is gorgeous, with a stunning view of the harbour and all the boats and yachts. It is like a completely different world here.

“Hello, can I get you both a drink?” the waiter asks as he approaches the table.

“I will have a scotch on the rocks, please. Maya, what would you like?”

“Can I have a small glass of red wine and a glass of water, please?”

The waiter nods, jotting our order down before he disappears.

“The view is stunning.” I gush.

“It really is.” he agrees, but I notice his eyes are on me.

I giggle and blush, “I mean the harbour.”

“Hmm, me too.” He chuckles.

I playfully roll my eyes at him, and he reaches over the table to kiss me softly. It is a sweet kiss and only lasts a moment before we part. The waiter comes back with our drinks.

“Are you ready to order food?” he asks.

“No, sorry, we haven’t looked,” Conrad says.

“It is fine. Just wave me over when you are ready.”

He smiles politely and goes to deal with other customers. I haven’t even glanced at the menu. I hope it isn’t all fancy stuff that I won’t eat. I pick it up to look and sigh in relief when I see there are some things I like. I try not to let the prices get to me. We are here now, and I know we won’t be leaving.

“What would you like?”

“I think the smoked salmon with the rosemary potatoes and steamed veg.”

“Nice choice. I will have the steak.”

I thought he would choose that. The man loves his steak. Conrad grabs the waiter’s attention, and we place our food order. As we wait, we enjoy the view and our drinks.

“Take a photo with me,” Conrad suggests.

We don’t have any together. I am camera shy. I smile and nod. He scoots his chair closer to mine, and the harbour is in the background. He hugs me close, and I cuddle in, both smiling brightly. He snaps a couple. He turns the phone around so we can see them.

“Perfect.” He smiles and kisses my cheek.

He moves back around to his spot at the table. He messes with his cell for a minute before he sets it down. When he does, I notice he has put us as his lock screen.

“Conrad, what if someone sees that?” I whisper softly.

“They won’t. I promise,” he replies and squeezes my hand over the table.

I find it sweet he has changed it to us. I don’t think I have been on someone’s lock screen before. It may not be a big deal to some, but it is to me. It shows I mean something to him.
