Chapter 180 Assassination
Chapter 180 Assassination
"He gave me an amusement park!"
Three days had passed since Oliver confessed his feelings, and Alison was still over the moon.
Her happiness was overflowing, and she couldn't help bragging to others. Lucy heard about it the most, but Lucy was very patient, always listening to Alison with a smile and happily discussing it with her.
After chatting with Lucy for twenty minutes, Alison hung up the phone and stared at the amusement park ownership certificate on her desk with a big smile.
Oliver walked into her room. Not surprised by what she was doing, he teased, "What are you smiling about?"
Alison's eyes darted around, and she said, "I'm smiling about how you almost bit through my lip when you kissed me at the park that day."
Oliver had seemed calm that day, but he was actually so nervous that he made several small mistakes. Now Oliver was truly composed. He walked over to Alison and leaned down. "I didn't perform well that day. Let me try again now."
Alison felt her whole body heating up from his kiss. She rested against his chest for quite a while before calming down.
"Any news about Gerald?" Alison asked.
"Don't mention other men while you're in my arms." Oliver slipped his hand inside Alison's pajamas, gently caressing her smooth skin.
That day at the amusement park, he was so excited to touch Alison that he unbuttoned her coat only to find a cashmere cardigan, lifted the cardigan to find a sweater, pulled up the sweater to find pajamas, and under the pajamas was another undershirt!
He had been frustrated struggling with all those layers of clothing, which made Alison laugh. Once Alison laughed, the romantic atmosphere instantly disappeared.
Now, holding Alison's soft body, Oliver felt very satisfied.
Alison pulled Oliver's hand out, but after a while Oliver put his hand back inside her clothes. She didn't know what was so interesting about the soft flesh on her belly, but it didn't tickle, and since Oliver liked it, she let him be.
"Don't be jealous for no reason. Lucy said Gerald is the deputy captain of the Hunter Team."
Oliver measured Alison's waist with his hand, feeling that Alison had gained a little weight. He was very satisfied with the results of his feeding efforts during this time.
He nodded, "The deputy captain of the Hunter Team is very mysterious. Very few people have seen his real face. The Hunter Team has disrupted Santos's smuggling activities many times, so people have long suspected they planted a mole close to Santos. If that person is Gerald, it wouldn't be surprising at all."
Alison thought of the fire that day, "The destruction of the twin towers was a signal for Gerald's return. What do you think his next move will be?"
The fifth drawing was titled "Curse."
Like the third painting "Tribulation," the image of "Curse" was filled with messy, abstract lines, and the meaning in the poem was far greater than what the picture showed.
The poem in "Curse" told the story of siblings with bad relationships harming each other over an inheritance. Alison easily thought of Santos's children.
Oliver also thought Gerald would strike again. At this point, he wasn't so eager to catch Gerald anymore.
He wanted to wait for Gerald to take down Santos, then profit from it.
"Santos still hasn't shown up. Is he really dead? Or too sick to get up?" Alison asked.
"Not sure. There's been a lot of true and false information lately. Someone is deliberately muddying the waters." Oliver said, "Freya and Marshall also want to follow Heath's example and develop their careers abroad, but they don't dare come clean to the National Security Bureau. Right now the National Security Bureau has banned them from leaving the country, and they're under investigation. Every time they're investigated, their assets shrink a bit. I feel like they're about to be pushed to the edge."
Two days later, Oliver's uncle Bradley was in a car accident, but fortunately only suffered minor injuries.
Oliver went to the hospital, and when he came back, he very seriously reminded Alison. "I'm assigning a few bodyguards to follow you. You'd better go out with the bodyguards recently."
Alison asked worriedly, "How is Bradley? Is it serious?"
Oliver shook his head, "Several National Security Bureau officials have been assassinated. It might be that Freya or Marshall hired hitmen. Uncle Bradley told me to be extra careful lately."
"Then you must be very careful." Alison said seriously, then comforted him. "Don't worry about me. I'm just a nobody, and I have nothing to do with the National Security Bureau. No one would pay to assassinate me."
The next day, Alison received a call from her landlord. her apartment had been broken into!
She had rented that apartment to make it convenient to go to work at St. Thomas Academy. She had paid a year's rent upfront. After moving to Lakeside Estates, Alison hadn't given up the apartment and asked the landlord to help clean it once a week. The landlord readily agreed.
The landlord said the thief had turned the place upside down. Alison watched the video the landlord sent and felt that the intruder's purpose wasn't to steal things, but more like looking for something.
Landlord said, "Come over and see what's missing."
Alison was about to agree, but suddenly remembered Oliver's warning. The words on the tip of her tongue turned into a refusal. "You call the police. I don't have time to come over."
The landlord's tone became more urgent. "Are you really not coming?"
Alison sensed something odd. "Who are you?"
There was a second of silence on the other end, then the voice changed, coldly demanding. "Where's the ledger?"
"What ledger?" Alison asked. She had been worried the thief was holding the landlord hostage, but it turned out the person could change their voice!
A cold laugh came through the phone, then the person hung up harshly.
Alison immediately told Oliver about this and asked someone to check on the landlord to make sure they were really safe.
Later that evening Oliver came back from outside, "Your landlord is fine. What did that person say to you?"
"Just asked where the ledger was. I asked him what ledger, and he hung up in a bad mood." Alison sat in her small office. On the desk, besides the drawings and poems she'd been studying recently, was a copy of that "food diary."
The original had been sent to the National Security Bureau.
Alison rested her chin in her hands, "You said before that Heath gave up a list that matches the records in the diary. Has the National Security Bureau successfully decoded the ledger?"
"Not yet, far from it." Oliver answered, "The list Heath provided is only a small part."
"I wonder what kind of list it is."
"Stop being curious." Oliver shook his head, "The more you know, the more dangerous it is."
These past few days Oliver had received a recruitment offer from the National Security Bureau. They wanted to set up a special investigation team to investigate the transactions behind the ledger. But Oliver's life was comfortable now. He only wanted to take cases he was interested in, not dangerous missions, so he politely declined.
He didn't expect Alison's apartment to be targeted. Oliver felt a sense of crisis and instructed his bodyguards to strengthen the villa's protection.
Around 3 a.m., the intercom phone by Oliver's bedside suddenly rang.
Oliver squinted and picked up the receiver. It was the head bodyguard calling. "Mr. West! Someone has broken into the villa!"
Oliver instantly woke up. He opened the outlet switch by the bedside, which actually concealed a button. He pressed the button hard, and a sharp alarm sounded throughout the villa.
Alison emerged from under the covers, revealing her bare shoulders covered in kiss marks, and asked sleepily, "What's wrong?"
Oliver put on his underwear, threw on a bathrobe, and grabbed Alison's clothes to help her dress. "An attacker has broken into the villa."
Alison's sleepiness vanished instantly. Halfway through putting on her clothes, she heard the sound of the balcony window shattering.
Oliver heard it too. He immediately wrapped Alison in the blanket, took out the gun from the bedside drawer, and aimed it at the balcony.
