Chapter 174 Ruthless Alison
Chapter 174 Ruthless Alison
Not again!
Just one step away again!
Alison was getting frustrated. "Contact Hunter Team immediately and have them send the people back!"
White Fox looked troubled. "I'm afraid that won't work."
The internal divisions and competition within Aurora Syndicate were severe, but alliances and deals also existed.
White Fox had been operating in Westfield and nearby cities for years, so he had some influence in Westfield. When Hunter Team came around, they had to ask him for information.
And Hunter Team had plenty of weapons and resources, which was exactly what the Aurora Fox squad lacked. But a few pieces of information were worth maybe a few bullets at most.
Matthew was the nephew of Arthur, the principal of St. Thomas Academy. His parents controlled several child trafficking channels. After White Fox pulled Matthew out of the river, Matthew would sometimes be lucid and sometimes have episodes, but there was no proper medicine to treat him.
Hunter Team took an interest in Matthew. Although White Fox was reluctant to give up such a valuable bargaining chip, he couldn't figure out how to use Matthew for the time being. Rather than let Matthew die of illness in his hands, he might as well trade him for actual resources.
Lucy, who was with Matthew, initially claimed to be Matthew's sister, but was later found to be a teacher at St. Thomas Academy. Matthew relied on her heavily. When White Fox learned that Lucy was well-versed in religious studies, and Santos also happened to be interested in religious studies, he sold Lucy along with Matthew to Hunter Team, getting six guns in exchange.
White Fox hadn't even gotten to enjoy his new guns when Alison came knocking.
He confessed hesitantly, carefully watching Alison's expression, realizing that the truly important one wasn't Matthew, but Lucy, whom he'd casually thrown into the deal.
Alison made no effort to hide her anger. "Call Hunter Team and get them back! Or the first bullet from your new gun will blow your brains out!"
White Fox's mouth tasted bitter. "Hunter Team is stronger than me, has more influence than me. It's not like I can just refuse the deal or back out whenever I want."
No matter how pitiful his expression, Alison wouldn't show him any mercy.
"I don't care what you have to do, you must get them back. Otherwise, every ten minutes, I'll kill one of your team members." Alison looked coldly at Black Wolf. "Starting with him."
She raised her hand and shot Black Wolf in the chest. Black Wolf didn't die immediately, but massive amounts of blood stained the floor—he wasn't far from death.
Fire Fox and the others wanted to fight back violently but were suppressed by Oliver.
White Fox couldn't believe it—Alison's methods were even more ruthless than a bandit's!
And Oliver wasn't stopping her, but actually enabling her!
White Fox realized they were serious. His hands trembling slightly, he pulled out his phone and made a call. "Flyfish, this is White Fox. Those two people you took yesterday—can I talk to them for a bit?"
White Fox still didn't want to offend Hunter Team. He wanted to use Lucy to calm down the nearly out-of-control Alison.
Flyfish's voice sounded like a very young man. "What do you want with them?"
White Fox spoke, "There was an incident with St. Thomas Academy's Thomas Special Program a while back. Matthew was also a student in the Thomas Special Program. I have some questions I want to ask. I'm willing to pay a consultation fee!"
"Your money's no good." Flyfish sounded dismissive. "They've already been implanted with bombs and sent on a glorious mission."
Flyfish hung up after speaking. The busy tone echoed in the quiet room. White Fox held his breath, his heartbeat accelerating with the rhythm of the busy tone.
"Implanted with bombs, glorious mission." Alison muttered with vacant eyes. Oliver worriedly steadied her.
Fortunately, Oscar said at that moment. "Mr. West, Alison! We've locked onto Flyfish's location!"
Oliver nodded. Alison took a deep breath and kicked White Fox in the stomach. White Fox knew she needed to vent, so he didn't resist, rolling clumsily on the ground several times with the force.
Fire Fox felt angry inside, but Oliver had brought numerous bodyguards with weapons more lethal and advanced than theirs. Looking at Black Wolf, who was barely breathing, the fury in his eyes suddenly died out.
Alison walked out with a tense face. Oliver instructed his head of security. "Leave a few people here, the rest come with me."
"Yes, Mr. West!"
When they left White Fox's territory, it was 5 PM. The winter sun set early, the sky was pitch black, the streetlights hadn't come on yet, and Alison's mood was extremely heavy.
Oliver got in the car, holding Alison's slightly cold hands, comforting her. "We're heading there now, we'll definitely make it in time. Don't be afraid, Lucy won't die."
Alison forced a smile at him. "Okay!"
On a southbound train.
Flyfish put down his phone.
His companion in the next seat asked. "Whose call?"
Flyfish added, "White Fox. He wanted to talk to Matthew and that Lucy."
Companion. "How strange. Those two were at his place for so long, they should've said everything they needed to say already."
Flyfish nodded. "I thought it was a bit odd too." He looked at the scenery rapidly retreating outside the window and said regretfully. "Are we really just leaving like this? We didn't find the ledger, didn't even show our faces at Thomas Holdings headquarters."
Companion said, "The police probably found the ledger. Santos isn't at Thomas Holdings headquarters, so there'd be no point going. This city may be more prosperous than the border, but I still prefer life at the border."
"Too bad, I didn't get to have enough fun." Flyfish pulled out a pack of beef jerky, chewing while saying. "By the way, does our deputy team leader know Matthew? Matthew looked especially shocked when he saw him."
Companion added, "Probably, after all he was undercover in Westfield for ten years."
-
"The twin towers, we're here." The taxi driver said.
Matthew paid and helped Lucy out of the car.
Throughout the ride, the driver had been sneaking glances at them through the rearview mirror, asking what they did for a living, seeming to find them very suspicious.
"When we passed the police station, the driver seemed like he really wanted to stop." Lucy smiled, then covered her side with her hand, feeling the warm, wet blood. "The bandaging wasn't good enough, the wound seems to have torn open."
"Does it hurt a lot?" Matthew squatted down in front of Lucy. "Ms. Gray, let me carry you on my back."
Lucy shook her head. "You're injured too."
Matthew said, "It's okay! I have the strength!"
Lucy had no choice but to climb onto Matthew's back. Compared to a few months ago, Matthew had lost a lot of weight. His facial features were sharper, his contours more defined. He'd shed his youthful look and gained some maturity.
"When you went alone to meet that Hunter Team deputy leader, what did you talk about?" Lucy asked.
"He's Gerald." Matthew answered quietly.
"I knew it." Lucy narrowed her eyes slightly. "Good thing you didn't get hypnotized again."
"Yes."
"Aurora Syndicate is just a bunch of dangerous lunatics. If you hadn't pretended to obey Gerald, we wouldn't have been able to leave so smoothly." Lucy felt that Matthew wasn't walking very fast. "Are you tired?"
Matthew shook his head.
Lucy raised her wrist, looking at the tracking device locked firmly on it. "What should we do about this thing? I think we'd better contact Alison quickly."
Matthew glanced at her wrist, so thin it looked like it would snap with one twist, and asked weakly. "Isn't tomorrow Alison's birthday?"
"Yes." Lucy showed a warm smile. "I remember your birthday is coming up soon too, right? We'll celebrate Alison's birthday first, then celebrate yours. I'll buy you a big cake."
Matthew kept his head down without answering. Warm tears rolled down his cheeks and dripped onto the ground.
Where he walked, he left behind a winding trail of blood.
