Chapter 173 Vladimir Woke Up
Chapter 173 Vladimir Woke Up
In the "food diary" that Alison found, each entry included a date, the people who ate together, and the food consumed that day.
The entries were short, with no fancy words. Rather than a diary, it was more like an uncategorized ledger.
As Alison flipped through it quickly, she noticed many foods were repeated. She realized this might really be a ledger!
The "food" represented goods, and the people eating together were probably business partners.
"This is probably what the Hunter Team and that killer were after." Oliver held the ledger, a sharp gleam flashing in his eyes.
"Too bad we can't decode it yet," Alison said.
"The first entry is from over ten years ago, and the last one is from two years ago—right after Santos fell ill, there were no new entries. I suspect this is Santos's ledger!" Oliver was in good spirits and put the ledger in an evidence bag. "Anyway, we've got the ledger now. Decoding it is just a matter of time."
Hearing this, Alison relaxed too. The two went downstairs together and saw Taylor looking relaxed, completely different from his worried expression during dinner. She raised an eyebrow and asked, "Find something?"
"We sprayed luminol reagent in the house and found quite a bit of blood, including on some of the money. Until the investigation is complete, no one's taking this money easily!" After speaking, Taylor enthusiastically directed officers to load the money onto vehicles and take it back to the station for storage.
The next day, after Alison got up, Oliver told her that someone had indeed broken into the villa last night.
"Was it the Hunter Team?" Alison asked.
"Yes." Oliver reached out and gently wiped the corner of her lips with his thumb, removing a milk stain.
Alison blushed slightly, pulled out a tissue to wipe her mouth, and continued asking, "Did they find anything?"
Oliver shook his head. "Probably not. They searched the cellar in the kitchen but didn't stay long before leaving."
Alison thought for a moment and asked with some concern, "If they didn't find anything, will they break into the police station or come here?"
"It's possible." Oliver's expression grew colder. "We need to increase security recently. Be careful when you go out."
"I know."
Two days later, Alison received some very surprising news: Vladimir had woken up!
Stellar Care Medical Center.
In the hospital room, Vladimir lay stiffly on the bed. His mother Veronica had raised the head of his bed and was feeding him.
Family members from the next bed were saying congratulatory words, and Veronica responded with a beaming smile. Vladimir kept his mouth open for a long time, like a puppy tilting his head back and sticking out his tongue to lick the spoon in Veronica's hand.
Alison and Oliver arrived at the hospital together and saw this scene outside the room.
Alison breathed a sigh of relief. "He really woke up. That's great."
But Oliver couldn't help frowning. "Did he hurt his brain? He looks kind of dumb!"
Oliver had originally planned to recruit Vladimir, but now he dropped the idea. A private investigator who gave away his personal information as a gift probably wasn't very smart anyway!
Veronica warmly greeted Alison, who asked Vladimir, "How are you feeling?"
"Pretty good."
Alison said, "I have a few questions for you."
Vladimir smirked. "I know what you want to ask. At first, only that bodyguard from the Matthew family was chasing us, but then another group showed up."
Alison's heart skipped a beat in panic. "Two groups?"
Vladimir nodded. "At first I thought the second group also wanted to kill us, but then I realized they had no idea who we were. They were stopping our pursuers while asking about our identities, like they wanted to help but were wary of something."
Alison felt puzzled. "Who were they?"
"They didn't reveal their identities. I heard them call each other 'Black Wolf,' 'Fire Fox,' and things like that."
The usually calm Oliver rarely showed a shocked expression.
Alison looked like she'd been struck by lightning.
Vladimir fell into memory. "At the time, I just thought they were weird people, but thinking back now, they should be Aurora Syndicate. As far as I know, there's a team called Aurora Fox that's been active around Westfield for years. Their captain is called White Fox, and Fire Fox seems to be White Fox's brother. Thanks to them holding off the pursuers, Lucy and Matthew broke through, but what happened to them after that, I don't know."
Vladimir smiled sheepishly, but noticed Alison and Oliver's expressions were strange. "What's wrong with you two?"
"Rest well and get better soon." Alison's thoughts were somewhat chaotic. She left these words and quickly turned to leave, with Oliver chasing after her.
Veronica looked worriedly at their backs. "What's going on?"
"Probably something urgent." Vladimir opened his mouth toward Veronica. "Mom, I'm starving!"
Alison walked forward with her head down, her steps getting faster and faster.
She should have thought of it!
If someone had saved Lucy and Matthew, the most likely candidate was Aurora Syndicate, which had always been hostile to Thomas Holdings.
White Fox didn't know about Lucy's relationship with her, but Matthew was Arthur's nephew! If White Fox figured out Matthew's identity, he would definitely keep Matthew in his territory. No wonder Lucy was still alive but didn't dare contact her directly.
"Alison!" Oliver grabbed Alison, who was walking so fast she almost stepped into traffic. "Calm down!"
"I can't calm down!" Alison gripped Oliver's arm tightly. "Oliver, I can't calm down. Can you understand how I feel?"
Fate seemed to be deliberately playing a joke on her, making her miss Lucy again and again. Alison couldn't accept missing her once more!
She took out her phone and called White Fox, who was very surprised. "Alison, have you thought it through? Are you willing to join us?"
Alison sneered inwardly. "I want to meet with you in person. Is that convenient?"
White Fox hesitated for a few seconds. "Sure, I'm in Westfield right now."
He gave an address, and Oliver quickly gathered people to rush over with Alison.
White Fox found himself surrounded and asked nervously and unhappily, "Alison, what are you trying to do?"
Black Wolf, as always hating Alison, shouted from the side, "This damn Alison wants to arrest us! Don't waste words on her!"
Alison struck Black Wolf in the face. His nose bled profusely as he staggered back several steps, caught by Fire Fox.
White Fox's expression darkened, but the next second, Alison pulled out a gun and pressed it against his forehead.
"Where's Matthew? And the woman with Matthew, where are they?" Alison released the safety. "Tell the truth, or I'll kill you!"
"Are you trying to find your student?" White Fox raised both hands, trying to communicate with her. "Alison, Matthew's identity is a bit special."
Alison shot him in the leg without hesitation. "No nonsense! I ask, you answer!"
White Fox was covered in cold sweat. In the face of absolute force, any scheme was useless.
He looked at Alison's reddened eyes and swallowed. "They're not with me anymore. Yesterday, they were taken away by the Hunter Team."
