Chapter 165 Ability Upgrade

Chapter 165 Ability Upgrade

Oliver followed behind Alison, about 6 miles behind.

He watched as Alison returned to Bluesy Notes Bar, barely stopped, and then headed toward the outskirts of the city.

Oliver rested his forehead on one hand, thinking that Helen and George weren't as professional as Taylor - they must have rushed through the scene and missed key clues.

After driving for nearly two hours, Alison was still on the move. Oliver couldn't help but wonder, where exactly was Alison going?

Red Apple Orphanage was located at the border between two neighboring cities.

Deep in the night, while everyone slept, no one noticed Alison carrying Francesca into the orphanage.

Francesca desperately wanted to make some noise, but her limbs were weak and powerless. She was hungry and thirsty, and had developed a low fever from the shock.

She cursed Alison in her mind - a complete lunatic!

After her episode, Alison had taken out the sedatives and nerve stabilizers she carried, but instead of taking them herself, she had shoved them all into Francesca's mouth.

So Francesca had been unable to save herself in the trunk - she'd been knocked out for over ten hours!

Alison entered Francesca's office and lifted the full-length mirror beside the bookshelf, revealing a small door behind it.

Francesca struggled, and Alison slapped her twice, searched her for the key, and opened the door.

The room behind the door was about the same size as the office, but because it never saw sunlight, the temperature was low. Even with the lights on, it felt creepy.

Alison walked in, and the plastic sheeting under her feet made soft sounds.

All four walls and furniture were covered with plastic sheeting too - even if blood splattered, it would be easy to clean.

After throwing Francesca into the small room, Alison locked the door, pocketed the key, and left as quietly as she had come.

She didn't linger, rushing back. Halfway there, Francesca's car ran out of gas. She refueled and continued, arriving back at the hospital around 8 AM.

She felt nervous - a bodyguard was sitting outside the ward. She was struggling with what to do when the bodyguard went to the bathroom.

Lucky break.

Alison secretly breathed a sigh of relief, quickly entered the ward, lay on the bed, and closed her eyes while hugging the white bear toy.

The bodyguard returned after she got back to the room, puzzled about why Oliver had suddenly ordered him to go to the bathroom.

Soon after, Oliver arrived at the hospital and instructed the bodyguards. "Act like last night didn't happen - don't ask, don't talk about it."

Though the bodyguards didn't understand, when Oliver told them to keep quiet, they obediently kept quiet.

Alison slept for two hours. When she woke up, she found the white bear toy thrown on the floor, and her back pressed against Oliver's warm chest.

She carefully tried to crawl out of Oliver's embrace, but his long arm reached out, hooked around her waist, and pulled her back.

"You're holding too tight." Alison kicked him under the covers.

Oliver loosened his grip a bit and looked down at her.

Alison looked back at him innocently.

Oliver found himself unable to get angry.

He lowered his head and lightly kissed Alison's forehead. "Recovered?"

"Yes!" Alison stretched out her arms around his neck, nodding with a smile.

Later that day, Helen came to visit Alison. She had contacted their advisor and told her about Alison's condition.

Their advisor, Diana Roberts, was an elderly lady with silver hair, short and plump but very kind.

Alison video-called with Diana. Diana was very gentle, always smiling - Alison had really liked her when she was in school.

They talked for a long time. Diana asked Alison many questions, having her describe in detail her state and feelings during this episode.

When Alison mentioned her new changes, Diana thought for a moment and said. "Most people only use about 10% of their brain capacity. Remember when I was invited to observe an experiment abroad about the brain and psychology? You students participated in brain testing too, and your brain development level was much higher than average - around 12%."

Alison's eyes widened. "Really? I didn't know."

Diana said, "After seeing the test results, I deleted the data, because that experiment supposedly had insufficient samples. You had no background, and I was afraid you'd be detained there as a test subject."

Alison thought about it and felt a chill of fear. "Thank you, Ms. Roberts."

"No need to thank me." Diana smiled and said. "While Agnosia is closely related to your psychological issues, it's essentially a brain disorder. Previous treatments focused mainly on suppression, which clearly didn't work well. This worsening might be because you hadn't had an episode in so long, and it suddenly erupted."

Alison nodded thoughtfully. "That seems right."

"Agnosia happening to you seems to have become a special ability." Diana suggested. "Why don't you try to find patterns and master this ability."

Alison nodded. She had used drowning more than once to force herself into the episode state. Though dangerous, it showed she could control the on-off switch.

This time, rather than the condition worsening, it was more like the ability had upgraded.

"This kind of exploration can't be done overnight - don't rush, take it slow." Diana glanced to the side. "Helen said you're in pretty good shape now, gradually getting over the shadow of those childhood events?"

"Yes." Alison pulled Oliver in front of the camera. "This is Oliver, he's my friend!"

Oliver calmly greeted her. "Hello."

Diana looked at him with a smile. "Hello, Oliver."

Oliver asked. "About controlling Agnosia, do you have any specific suggestions? Are there safe methods that won't harm Alison's body?"

Oliver thought Alison's previous methods were too dangerous.

"You care about Alison a lot." Diana was in good spirits and offered several suggestions after thinking.

Before hanging up, Diana reminded them. "The fewer people who know about this special ability, the better. Alison, protect yourself."

Alison answered seriously. "I will."

The next day, Alison was discharged.

She wasn't in a hurry to explore her "new ability," spending each day going back and forth between Lakeside Estates and Red Apple Orphanage.

She didn't really want to lie to Oliver, but fortunately Oliver was also busy and didn't ask where she went every day.

This morning, Alison arrived at the orphanage and saw Chloe.

"What are you doing here?" she asked in surprise.

"Only you can come back?" Chloe shot back. "I wanted to come back, so I came back."

In fact, Oliver had found Chloe and asked her to come to the orphanage to see what Alison was doing every day.

"What are you doing here? The temp workers said you've been coming every day lately." Chloe asked, puzzled. "Where's that damn Francesca?"

Alison stared at her. Chloe nervously wondered if she'd given herself away, but fortunately Alison looked away after a few seconds.

"Come with me." Alison asked. "How did that thing of yours turn out?"

"Dorian's death was an accident. I wasn't the mastermind, and it wasn't intentional. Settled it with a lawsuit and compensation."

Chloe made it sound easy, but in reality it was only thanks to Oliver's help that it could be resolved smoothly.

Having witnessed how Oliver could solve with one sentence what had troubled her for so long, she couldn't help but envy Alison's good fortune.

Alison opened the door to the director's office. Chloe instinctively resisted. "What are we doing here?"

Alison didn't answer. She opened the small door behind the mirror and gestured for her to see for herself.
