Chapter 29 Chapter 29: Fool
Chapter 29: Fool
Visheia’s POV
I smiled at him and nodded, “I’m happy to be invited by you. Of course, I won’t miss this,” I said. He chuckled, “It’s my pleasure to have you here.”
“You’re such a nice guy, Sir Nathan. Are you single?” I asked. I saw his ears turn red. He always does this when he’s embarrassed. He never changes.
“Ohh, why are you asking him that, Anastasia? Do you like him? Oh my! I’m rooting for you two! What would be a good love team name?!” Cassie exclaimed excitedly.
I immediately looked at her, “Come on, Cas. I’m merely asking him,” I said, but she just grinned. What is she thinking again?
“Okay, okay. If you say so, but you two look good together--” Nathan laughed while waving his hand.
“It’s embarrassing for Miss Anastasia, Cassie. Stop it. We both know we’re not mates,” he said. Right. And one more thing, he’s been treating me as his younger sister before. If he remembered me, he might still have treated me the same way.
He was a good person then, and I’m happy that he still is now. His mate will indeed be a lucky woman.
I also laughed softly, “Stop teasing us, Cassie. Why don’t you look for your mate?” I said. She shook her head quickly, “No, no. I believe in fate. I don’t want to look for him. If he wants to find me, then he should be the one to search.” I covered my lips and laughed.
She’s really funny.
“Alright, ladies. Enjoy the night. I’ll just attend to the other guests. I’ll promise to join you later,” Nathan bid us farewell. I nodded, “Bye. Take your time. And congrats again on your win,” I said.
He nodded and left. I let out a sigh. If there’s one person I would tell who I really am, it would be Nathan. He did so much good for me back then. Especially when my father was arrested and when my mother passed away.
I felt like I was drowning in sadness. I didn’t know what to do. I thought I had everything before. A happy family. A luxurious life. The prince who was my mate and fiancé.
I was living the life everyone wanted. But I didn’t expect to lose it all in an instant. When I think about the past, I just laugh.
I may have lost everything, but I found something in return. I met Mother Kiara. She’s the one who gave me another hope. Another reason to live.
I wanted to forget the past. But I couldn’t. So after this revenge, I promise myself that I will change. I will live without pain and anger from the past.
I will let go of the past. But I will always love and remember my parents, who loved me dearly before. I badly miss them. I wish I could go back in time.
“Anastasia, are you okay?” I heard Liliane ask. I blinked a few times and looked at her in confusion.
“Oh, yes, I’m okay,” I answered. I saw Cassie grin widely, “You! You must have hidden feelings for Sir Nathan,” she teased me again.
I shook my head and laughed softly, “You’re wrong. He’s handsome and nice, yes. And I like him, but not romantically,” I said, looking in Nathan’s direction.
“Aw, that’s sad. Anyway, do you girls want to go to the mini-bar?” she said, pointing her finger to a corner.
Liliane and I looked at the place she pointed to. There was indeed a mini bar there. But I don’t plan to drink too much. I have another agenda here.
I shook my head, “I want to join you girls, but unfortunately, I can’t drink,” I said. Well, that’s half a lie and half true. I didn’t like drinking alcohol back then because I was trained to be the perfect girl for the prince, who was next in line to the throne.
It’s a shame that all those trainings were useless. Why didn’t I expect him to cheat on me? Did I really have too much faith in him? How unfortunate to trust someone blindly.
I saw their faces fall. Are they expecting me to spend the night with them?
“What a shame,” Cassie whispered. I laughed softly, “I’ll just go to the bathroom. I’ll join you later, but I’ll only drink a little,” I said.
Their faces immediately brightened. Well, I guess a little drink won’t hurt. They nodded, “We’ll wait for you there!” they said happily and headed to the minibar.
I took a deep breath and looked around. Is he here?
“Are you looking for someone, Miss?” I heard someone ask from behind. I slowly turned around. Oh, what luck.
There he is, the man I’m looking for. Hanzel McNeil. Nathan’s older brother. Also, the king’s royal guard.
More importantly, Rachelle Wu’s true mate. I know they don’t know that I know this. Well, they can’t hide anything from me.
I smiled and shook my head, “I’m not, Sir. I’m merely looking for the restroom,” I smoothly lied. He looked at me intently and didn’t speak.
“You must be Anastasia Cullen?” he asked. Now he realizes it. I nodded, “The one and only,” I replied.
He bowed politely, “Pardon my rudeness, Lady Anastasia. That way, there’s the restroom,” he said. Why did he suddenly become polite? His voice earlier was rough, as if he was displeased to see or even talk to me.
I nodded, “Thank you.” I turned my back on him. As I walked away, I felt the weight of his stare on me.
Does he find me suspicious? Well, I am indeed suspicious. From my investigation a few years ago, before Rachelle Wu met Darius, she was already in a relationship with her mate, Hanzel.
She’s really a cheater. I can’t imagine how she convinces Hanzel to stay away from her. He was Darius’s royal guard. Isn’t it too embarrassing to see each other every day?
And one more question I can’t explain: does Darius even know about it? If not, then he’s a fool.
I can’t believe I’m even in love with someone like him before. I’m also such a fool for thinking that I am the only one who will love for the rest of his life.
