You Were Rejected?

Hance was left in a confused state; he was deep in thought when the doorbell rang, so he pressed the remote control, and the door opened. Caleb walked in, “Sir, your dad is waiting for you downstairs.”

“Who is Aaron?” Hance asked instead, and Caleb raised a brow, confused.

“Find out who Aaron is,” he ordered.

“What’s his second name?”

It was impossible to find someone using just their English name; Hance didn't know. “He is Alexa’s boyfriend,” he blurted.

“She has a boyfriend?” Caleb questioned in disbelief, and Hance smacked his lips.

“If you ask me, then who should I ask? Just go find out everything about them.”

"Okay, sir,” then he turned on his heels and left. Hance picked up his phone and sent a message to someone as an evil idea suddenly came to mind.

He wheeled himself to the lodge downstairs, where his dad was waiting, not alone, but with the new CEO he had hired for Adams Group, Clovis, who had been his friend ever since he learned to move a step.

“Hance” Clovis winked at his friend, and he frowned.

“Why are you smiling at me? What gossip did you have with my dad?”

“I didn't say anything,” his dad chimed in.

"Uncle, don't bother; even if we indeed gossiped, then it’s none of his business.”

Hance frowned. “I am your boss; talk to me with respect.”

This made Clovis burst out in laughter. “Don't be stupid, dude; even if you one day become the president of the country, then I will never respect you.”

“How did it go with the Skarletts?” Hance asked anxiously; he discovered that they were trying to scam the company, and the only person he trusted was Clovis to fix it since he was busy.

“Let’s talk about women first." Clovis chuckled, and Hance’s frown deepened. “Is that why you are here?”

"Yes,” he replied, and Hance turned and wheeled himself to the elevator. “I will go with him." Clovis followed Hance before he sighed.

“Why won’t you just get married and stop bothering your father?”

“I tried; the lady I want to marry is taken,” Hance said in a sad tone, but he was not going to give up on her.

“Don't tell me you got rejected.” Clovis asked mockingly “Never!!!” he sneered.

Alexa and Lydia made dinner at their new place, which was small and very beautiful. It had two bedrooms, a sitting room, and a kitchen that was not connected to the sitting room like their previous place.

“I can’t believe my parents had such a place, and they let me pay rent for two years." Lydia was still angry about that, but her mom ignored her.

“Aunt, do you want me to help you unpack your clothes?” Alexa asked because they had unpacked theirs, but she didn't.

“No, I will be leaving tomorrow morning,” Sarah said, and Lydia’s eyes widened in shock.

“What do you mean?”

“I need to go back to my husband; do you think I will stay here forever?”

“But didn't you say you would now move in with me?”

Then Lydia smiled, “Never mind, I will miss you, Mother.” She hugged her mother and smiled at Alexa. Even Sarah knew that she must be so excited now.

“Let’s have dinner; don't pretend like you want me here.”

The next morning, after sending Sarah off, they both went shopping, and Alexa got some new clothes.

“Get some heels as well." Lydia urged her, but she refused. “Where will I wear heels?”

“You might need it to go on dates with Aaron.”

“I won't go on a date with Aaron,” Alexa frowned at her, then her mind drifted to Mr. Williams.

“I will get one.”

After they were done shopping, they went to a hair salon, and Lydia had her hair dyed. “Don’t dye my hair; just make it short,” she ordered the hairdresser, who nodded.

Today was their day of relaxation, and once they were done, they went to Aaron’s bakery for some snacks.

“Alexa” Aaron smiled at them as soon as they walked in, and then Alexa’s gaze met with someone familiar.

She flinched when she saw two gentlemen sitting at the corner; even Lydia noticed them. “What is he doing here?”

Hance raised a brow at her; she immediately looked away and smiled at Aaron. “You are going to the kitchen? I will go with you” Alexa suggested and he was confused.

“Yes, go with him." Lydia signaled for Aaron to go with her flow which he did “Come with me then” Aaron left with Alexa following him.

“Is that Alexa?” Clovis asked Hance who nodded.

“You weren't joking when you said she was young," he said, staring at Hance.

“She is a kid.”

“You claim to have a minor in law; is a 21-year-old girl considered a minor?” Hance retorted, and Clovis couldn't refute it because his words made sense.

“But she has a boyfriend.”

“I doubt,” Hance said. He remembered Alexa saying that they had been together for a long and loved each other so much. Didn't she just get divorced?

He retracted his phone and sent her a message: [Come back]

He wasn't asking her, but instead, he sent out an order. Clovis peeked at his message and frowned. “You are ordering her around; is she your employee?”

“Yes, and from tomorrow she will be my maid,” he stated with a smile. He had texted the manager of the hotel to put Alexa in charge of taking care of him.

“This is amusing,” Clovis chuckled.

“Don't misunderstand me, okay? I am not here to support you; I just came for the fun,” he added, and Hance felt like throwing his fist at him. Clovis has always been irritating.

Alexa read the message, and she almost dropped her phone. “Are you okay?” Aaron asked, and she nodded.

“What is the order for the man in the wheel chair?” she asked, and Aaron took out his book.

“They want two cups of coffee,”

“I will make it for them,” she said at once and began making the coffee. Aaron didn't even have the chance to tell her that she didn't work here; a smile crept on his lips as the scene made him believe that she wanted to help him.

When she was done with the coffee, she walked to the table nervously and served it “enjoy.” Her words barely came out as a whisper.

“Why did you cut your hair?” Hance asked, and she bit her lip but still maintained a smile. “Is there anything else you need, sir?”

"You,” he blurted, and her eyes widened in shock. Even Clovis stared at him in amusement. Seeing that his response made her uncomfortable, he decided to switch topics.

“Do you work for your boyfriend?” he questioned, and she clenched her fist, hoping that the questions would stop.

“Please have a seat, Alexa.” Clovis pointed at the vacant seat next to them. Alexa shook her head in denial.

"Please, I insist,” he added. She stared at Lydia at the far end of the table, who shook her head in denial.

Alexa didn't want to feel disrespectful, so she sat down. “Will your boyfriend feel offended that you sat with us?” Hance tried finding out if she had lied to him.

“No, he will think I am sitting with my uncles,” she answered, and they both stared at themselves in shock.
