Chapter 48: A Family Dinner

Hance sighed and checked his time. “Let’s go,” he said, and Clovis was confused. The lady just sat down, and now he wants to go.

“Are you sure?” He questioned him, and Hance raised a brow. “I wasn't talking to you," then he turned to Alexa "Alexa.”

Alexa shook her head in denial. “I am sorry, but…”

“We are going to the station,” he interrupted her. “The cops need your statement in order to arrest Mark Kennedy,” he added.

“Oh”

Since it was about that, she had to go with him because if Mark Kennedy isn't arrested, she won't be at ease.

“Can you wheel me to the car?”

Alexa stared at Clovis, who looked away; it’s not like Hance was talking to him. So she walked behind his wheel chair and wheeled him past Lydia.

Lydia keeps giving her the look that says, “What’s up? Where are you going?”

She smiled at her before they arrived beside the car; there was a different driver from Caleb.

Alexa was about to turn and get in when he grabbed her hand. Her heart beat accelerated as she stared at him nervously. “I need your support to get inside.”

"Okay,” she said, understanding him and walking closer to him.

He wrapped his hand around her waist, causing her eyes to widen in shock, then he stood on a foot and sat inside the car.

Alexa was still left in a dazzled state; she could scent his cologne, and it was the best she had ever scented.

“Alexa!”

She woke up from her reverie and got into the car, which drove away. She was unusually quiet. “Why didn't you tell me?” he asked.

“Tell you what?”

“That you are not engaged to Mark Kennedy.”

She stared at him. How did he know that? Did Mark Kennedy tell him that?

“Do you want your dad arrested as well?” He questioned her, and she furrowed her brow.

Of course not.

“Why will I want to arrest my dad?”

“Because he sold you to him.”

“It’s none of your business,” she blurted. Then she realized her words were mean, but the next thing Hance said made her blush.

“Anything associated with my woman is my business.”

“I am not your woman,” she muttered, and she stared outside, trying to avoid contact with him.

He chuckled and stared at the new message he received, then turned to her and said, “Let’s have dinner tonight.”

“What?”

“I will send a driver to pick you up,” he added.

Wait, she hadn't agreed yet.

She was about to retort when they arrived at the station.

**

After giving her statement to the officer, the driver was driving to her old place. “No, I don't live there anymore.”

“Why?” Hance questioned.

“Well, the landlord wanted us to vacate. But we got a different place.”

“Hm”

She directed the driver until they arrived at the small apartment, which she now shares with Lydia; it was bigger compared to their previous one.

"Thanks,” she said, walking down the car, and the driver took off.

A smile crept on her lips as she watched his car disappear from her view. Lydia stood by the window, staring at her.

As soon as Alexa walked in, she jumped towards her. “Where did you both go?”

“I went to give my statement at the station,” she explained, and Lydia nodded.

"Oh, Alexa, you have fallen for the wrong guy,” Lydia said pitifully after she saw the way Alexa was smiling at Mr. Williams.

“What are you saying? I haven't fallen for anyone,” she said, still smiling. It was obvious to her how much she had fallen for the man.

“When did I start liking him?” She chuckled and sat on the couch before going into deep thought.

“Do you think I started liking him today?” she asked Lydia, who shook her head in denial.

“I think it was the night he spared you after you called him Mr. Arrogant Man.”

“Or maybe when he saved you from embarrassment at the shoe shop,” Lydia kept guessing, but Alexa refused. That was not the moment; at that time, the feeling was mutual.

“Do you think it’s when he saved you from Mark? Maybe you just feel grateful to him, and that's all.”

“I think it was on the ship,” she chuckled and checked the time on the clock.

“At what time do the rich usually have dinner?”

She stood up, walked to the bedroom, and took out the heels she bought. “You were right, I need heels.”

Lydia could only watch her friend's daydream; what kind of love was that? She had no idea.

*

At 7 p.m., Alexa got dressed in a red gown, and Lydia helped with her makeup.

“It’s good you did your hair today; see how beautiful you look,” Lydia said as they stood in front of the mirror.

Alexa smiled, and then they heard the sound of the car outside. “I think the driver is here,” she said, picking up her purse to leave when Lydia grabbed her hand.

“Remember, no sex on the first date. There can be some smooching, but no sex. We still don't know if he just needs a fling or not."

Alexa pouted, “Why do you always put thoughts in my head? It’s not like we will get intimate; we will just talk.”

“You both can't move at the same pace, whatever. Get going, and I dare you to sleepover; I will call mother and get her back here,” she threatened.

Alexa walked outside, and the driver pulled the door for her. She walked in, and it drove away.

“Why am I so nervous? Will we get intimate?” She smacked her lips; now Lydia had placed imaginations inside her head.

“What if he tries getting intimate?”

“But I told him I had a boyfriend.”

The driver heard her speaking to herself, and he maintained a normal look, completely ignoring her.

“What about Missy Sunshine?” Then she tilted her head to the side and asked, “Am I really just a fling?” She went into deep thought.

A lot of things kept running through her head that she didn't even realize when they arrived. The driver pulled the door open before she came back to her senses.

“Oh”

She walked down the car and stared at her surroundings. She stood in front of a big mansion. “Is this his house?” she thought. At first, she thought they were going to have dinner at a restaurant or somewhere romantic.

“Please come with me,” the driver said, and she nodded before following him inside. As she stepped into the sitting room, her gaze swept over the room, causing her to stop on her track.

The sitting room was occupied by Mrs. Adams, Josh, Nadia, and some other relatives; even Senior Mr. Williams was present.

“Oh no, it’s a family dinner.”
