Chapter 25

Aunt Candice raised her brows at me when I was hesitant in putting on my school uniform. There were tears left on my eyes upon waking up, I dream of mom and her rooting for me and all I could think of is not going to school because I’m scared that people will recognize me as the daughter with a fucked up family.

“What if they will see me again? Why can’t I just continue working? I don’t want to go to school.”

“Then what? End up like me? You can’t just give up on your future because you’re scared. You’re stronger than you think Kate and if you think so low of yourself I don’t know what to do to you anymore, and going out there and seeing other people your age will inspire you to keep going and chase your dreams. I know it’s going to be hard but you should really care what other people think of you and focus on yourself and your goal. I already enrolled you in a private school, I know you belong there and I’m not going to tell you this but I have to, I think your mom already knows where you were headed next maybe she thinks she will be with you but she’s the one who paid for your tuition… all of the 2 years in middle school. So you have no choice.”

That sent me in shock. Why is she telling me now? Is she telling the truth though? But if she’s lying where would she get the money though… it’s starting to make me emotional that I look away and grab my uniform and headed to my room to change, we both didn’t say anything as I head to the door, she just smiled at me while nodding her head, giving me courage.

“Give that back!”

“Oh my gosh! I miss you so much.”

Upon entering the school, it’s crowded just like my old school but this school is much smaller than my last one. I think everyone already knows each other judging by how they’re talking to one another.

I went straight to my room and found a seat at the back. I was relived actually, no one know who I was and no one is giving me the look I assume I would get upon arriving here.

I watch everyone make friends with each other and I can’t help but pout, I used to be the outgoing type, the one who makes friends on the first day and I would immediately fit in without a question but right now I don’t feel like it, so I sit in the corner and observe them.

There were people who try to make friends with me but I try to cut the conversation short and I think they immediately understood what it means.

School was fine and pretty normal, I don’t have friends and I don’t really participate in class, I’m just there at the back existing. It was like a routine for me… A new one, go to school and going to work at night and the cycle continue.

“You’re the girl at the bar.”

It was another normal day at school when a guy approached me. I was shock to what he said that I couldn’t say anything and because his voice was loud everyone near us looked our way.

“What?”

“You can speak. I thought you were mute, but you I know I saw you at the bar. You’re working as an escort are you? I mean are you even aloud to be here at this school with that kind of work?” He laugh and he look around, now people are laughing at me. I look down on my shoes and bite my lips, I want to punch hi right now, he’s being a jerk and I don’t even know who he is.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about. I think you got the wrong person.”

He laugh and move closer to me. “How much are you then? I want to have you for the night?” He whispered that sent shiver to my spine… I was nervous and I don’t know how to defend myself.

I was going to push him away when a girl grab him by the collar and and move her face closer to him. “I’m offended, I thought you liked me, I was wrong, I guess.” She look at me and smirk before releasing the guy and walking away.

I was stunned and the guy stumbled following the girl… I didn’t expect that… but I’m thankful for what she did, I just couldn’t believe she could like a guy like that though… but I was saved and that what matters. But there’s a vibe in that girl that I don’t like, she seems dangerous, I don’t want to be near her.

“Ez?”

I don’t know if I’m hallucinating but I think I just saw Ezra. I’m here at the bar working and serving drinks to customers when I got a glimpse of his face from the crowd.

After serving the drinks I try to follow the man who I think is Ezra until I got outside there was no one. I looked everywhere but he just wasn’t there.

I don’t know if I’m just being emotional but my tears fell without warning and my legs turn weak that I sat on the curb of the parking space, I couldn’t care less as people start to arrive.

I look down on my feet, feeling the heaviness from my heart when a pair of shoes came in my line of vision that I raise my head and my eyes widen, it’s the girl earlier.

She didn’t say anything, her face is poker as she handed me her handkerchief. My brows are creased and I didn’t accept it, she pouted and toss it to my lap before walking away, not even uttering a single word… and I know I don’t like her and I’m still firm with the decision that I’m going to stay away from her… I can’t help but feel relief, there’s still people out there that’s going to help you and it’s always the least expected time and person.
