Chapter 19
As I reached Florida, I hailed a cab to the house. My parents didn't know of my arrival since I told them I will back this weekend. I was coming two days early because I wanted to know why Cody was acting distant towards me. I literally don't deserve the silent treatment. When I reached the house, I paid the cab and got down. I walked reluctantly towards our front door while dragging my small luggage along. I rang the doorbell multiple times before it got opened. Not someone I was expecting, but Miles stood there with a surprise smile. “Mom said you will be coming this weekend. I wasn't expecting you to be here this morning " Miles spoke but I was too tired to explain.
“Is that Millie,oh I miss my daughter " I heard my mom speak from inside the house and Miles nodded. My mom pushed Miles aside and opened the door wide. “Oh Millie my dear, I missed you" my mom drew me into a hug. “Honey why didn't you call, I could have made Miles or Chad pick you up from the airport " My mom explained while she broke from the hug. “I won't repeat such next time" I quickly apologized and entered the house.
“Mom I will like to take some rest, please I don't want to be disturbed. I'm really tired from the flight ". My mother nodded and gave me a kiss on my forehead. Miles chuckled at mom's action but I glared at him. I lifted my luggage up the stairs and I was happy the door to my room was already opened. I closed the door behind me as I sank into the bed. I kicked off my shoes and drifted off to sleep.
Later in the day, I met Chad at dinner and we caught up the things we missed. Chad had graduated from college early this year and he was working in a firm nearby. “So mom,has any of you seen Cody around " I asked and Miles choke on the food he was eating. I handed him a glass of water which he took and whispered a thanks. Miles reaction meant he knew something I didn't know. My mother looked clueless and I couldn't blame her since she spends most of the days in the house.
I begged Miles to tell me what he knew that caused such a reaction at dinner but he blatantly refused and blamed it on the meat he chewed. I let it go but I wasn't going to leave this alone. I need to find out for myself what must have occupied Cody's time that he decided not to talk to me again. I am his girlfriend and I deserve the best.
It's been two days since I came home and I spent most of the time in the house. Alicia was still not picking my calls so I've decided not to pester her again. People change and as much as I still want her as my friend,it can't be forced. As I sat on my bed watching movies, I remembered I had Tedd's number. He picked up immediately I called. “Hey Tedd, it's me Millie. I want Cody's house address." I asked and he remained silent. “Are you back home?" I didn't understand why he was asking me that question? “I came home two days ago. Can I get Cody's address please " I pleading showing the urgency. “I've sent it via text" He explained and hung up before I could thank him. Tedd was acting weird. Something was really off.
It's literally funny that I've been dating Cody for a year and a half but I didn't know his house address. Most of the time, he came to pick me up from my house and dropped me off before heading to his house. I tied my head into a ponytail and left some loose strands to lie on each side of my face. I wore my blue jeans and paired it with a pink crop top. I grabbed my bag from the closet and headed out from my room.
As I got downstairs I realized my mom was busy in the living room attending to clients online. I didn't want to disturb her so I grabbed a juice from the fridge and waved goodbye as I sat in my car heading in the direction of the address Tedd gave me.
As I reached the house, I changed my mind about entering. It wasn't important to attack him in his house. But instead of going back home, I packed the car at where no one will notice. I had sat in the car for ten minutes when I saw Cody walking hand in hand with a beautiful girl about his age. Whatever they were talking about made the girl smile brightly and my heart ache when Cody pushed a strand of hair behind her ear. She gave her a kiss on the cheek and I wiped my tears. I didn't realize I was crying until now. I've found out the reason why he wasn't talking to me anymore. He had gotten a new toy to play with. As I watched them enter the house, I drove off back home.
..........
It's been hours since I reached home and I had locked myself in the room crying my eyes out. The pain was so unbearable. I thought Cody loved me but this I just can't take it anymore. It's over and the next time I see him I will make sure I let him know that we had nothing to do with each other anymore.
It's been months since I saw Cody and his new girlfriend which I presume. Chad had taken me out to the mall to cheer me up since I was pretty still heartbroken. “Millie stop sulking over him,he doesn't deserve you. Try this on, I bet you will look good in it " Chad explained and handed over the dress he had grabbed. I took the dress with a smile and headed to the changing room to change. “How do I look?" I asked and Chad smiled. “I've always known you are beautiful " I laughed at Chad's expression and I stood in front of the mirror. “It's nice I'm keeping it" I spoke to the shop attendant who stood besides me.
“Let's grab a coffee and come back later for the dress" Chad suggested and dragged me out to a coffee shop within the mall. While I was sipping the coffee, I saw Cody and the girl I saw him with the other time. I stood up offering an apology to Chad and rushed to them. I stood in front of them and Cody looked shocked to see me.
“Cody who is this girl,?" I was very furious that he was silent. “Cody what is the meaning of this?" the girl spoke and I slapped her hard on the face. “Watch it bitch. Cody I'm asking you who the hell is she. Is she the reason why you never picked my calls. Infact you blocked me and I never heard from you. Say something because I know you are not deaf" I shouted and the people who walked in the mall looked at me as if I'm crazy. Chad stood there patiently with a proud smile.
“What right do you have Millie to slap my girlfriend. You were never my type. I just wanted someone to play with after Isabella stopped school " Cody spoke with a smirk and I kicked him in the balls. “This is for being a jerk and playing with my heart. I hate you Cody and don't you ever come running back to me because it's over" Cody grinned and the new girlfriend rushed over to him to check whether he was fine. I walked away but someone grabbed my hand.
“Wait please. Can I speak to you for a moment " It was the girl I just slapped. I yanked her hands off and checked the time. “I'm good enough to give you five minutes of my time" She urged me to follow her and I did. “I'm sorry you had to witness that. I'm Melissa, Cody's first love. I didn't know he had a girlfriend, I wouldn't have destroyed his relationship had I known but I love Cody a lot and I don't think I can leave him for you. I hope you understand and besides he left you for me. He never got over me this whole years of me being away"
I was very furious listening to the girl spew nonsense. I walked out on her and looked for Chad. He stood outside by his car with a package. “I'm sorry for embarrassing you in the mall today. I just wanted to let things out. I didn't mean to be violent " I apologized with tears streaming down my face. “Come here sis." Chad drew me into a hug. “I'm super proud of you. You deserve someone better than that jerk back inside " I whispered a thanks not breaking the hug.
