Chapter 66 Chapter 66
Caroline heard him say to Fernanda and the others:
“What are you waiting for, girls? Hurry up and apologize to the young ladies!”
“Why should we?” Fernanda was furious. “Counselor, that's unfair! You yourself said that Tania was the main culprit. Why is it our fault now?”
Ianca scoffed:
“Even the counselor apologized to them. Some people are just too good at this... they rely on their boyfriends to intimidate their classmates and even their teachers.”
“That's right, counselor!” Fernanda provoked him. “Are you being threatened? Why are you afraid? You should report them!”
“Shut up!” the counselor snapped. “No one threatened me, don't talk nonsense! Apologize when I tell you to!”
“I won't!” Fernanda gritted her teeth. “I'm not afraid of their threats. Come at me!”
“Whoever we're talking about knows better,” Fernanda sneered, giving her a contemptuous look.
“Humph.” Caroline continued to stare at her expressionlessly. In fact, she found it more amusing than annoying. “Hmm, you were right.”
Fernanda and Ianca were stunned and looked at her skeptically. They insulted her... and she said they were right?
Was she foolish?
Caroline looked at them as if they were the foolish ones and said calmly,
“I have a pretty face, and rich guys like girls like me. I can't help it.”
Fernanda and Ianca were speechless.
Tania, behind her, was open-mouthed.
“My dear, are you really saying that?
You've ruined their mood!”
“There's no point in being jealous,” Caroline continued with a slight smile. “Our appearance is a gift from our parents; we can't change it. Even making a living by being beautiful is a skill. Not everyone has that ability or luck. After all, the heavens favor a small minority.”
Silence.
“And people like me are destined to marry men from wealthy families to live a good life. How many rich ladies have you seen working hard to earn a living? They simply leave it to the men to support the family — just like me. All I have to do is make sure I stay beautiful.”
More silence.
“Everyone has their own life, there's no point in being indignant about it.” — She smiled sweetly. — If you're really that jealous of me, there is a way to change your destiny.
Caroline paused and said, in a serious tone full of false sincerity:
— You can get plastic surgery. That way, you should be able to get a slightly richer man, even if you don't do as well as I did. I believe you can do it. Good luck!
With that, she even made a fist to encourage them.
Fernanda and Ianca had horrible expressions on their faces.
“Pfft.” Tania was almost crying from laughing so hard.
She had never realized how good Caroline was at talking.
She wasn't exactly scolding them, but she managed to make them furious.
That was probably the greatest achievement of the argument.
Tania had never seen Caroline do that to anyone before.
But now she realized that it wasn't that she couldn't—she just never found a reason to do it.
Fernanda and Ianca had really asked for it.
Tania felt enormous pleasure at seeing their distorted expressions.
“Humph.” A grumble sounded behind them.
Caroline was initially stunned to hear the man's low, seductive laugh.
She turned slowly.
The lights in the hallway were dim.
The man was dressed in an all-black suit and stood silently behind her. His deep eyes reflected a warm glow, and his facial features were indescribably beautiful.
The way he looked at her, with such tenderness and depth, made Caroline feel as if he were stealing her soul.
That presence he exuded and that air of seductive danger...
He was full of desire.
Even Tania was impressed by his stunning beauty.
Caroline also stared at him without blinking.
“Nicholas?” she murmured, surprised.
What was he doing there?
Hadn't he just said he wasn't coming?
Seeing how confused and adorable she looked, Nicholas smiled, took a step forward, and wrapped his arms around her waist.
“Are you very happy to see me?” he asked, his voice low and soft, brushing against her ear.
Caroline was speechless.
Her heart was beating wildly as she looked at his handsome face.
She blinked a few times, as if to make sure he was real.
“W-Why are you here?” she asked timidly.
“I missed you.”
Silence fell.
The man was so direct that she blushed.
They had been apart for less than an hour.
As if reading her thoughts, Nicholas chuckled and rested his hand on her head.
“My dear, you need to understand that I'm on my honeymoon. Even a minute away from you is too much.”
Caroline felt her heart beat even faster.
Tania also blushed when she heard those words.
Instead of feeling jealous, Tania smiled like a proud mother, moved by her “son.”
She seemed so touched and excited that Caroline found it strange.
Why was Tania more excited than she, the wife?
“Wow, Prince Charming, did you come to help Carol move?” said Tania, purposely raising her voice so that the other two girls in the room could hear. “Carol is so lucky to have such a thoughtful boyfriend.”
The two colleagues, Fernanda and Ianca, looked up toward the door.
And they saw him.
The man standing there was simply stunning.
Nicholas' exceptional beauty and charm would make any woman's heart flutter.
Fernanda's heartbeat quickened.
But when she saw Caroline leaning against him, she gritted her teeth in jealousy.
How could such an impressive man fall in love with a simple girl like Caroline?
Were all men really so superficial that they only cared about appearance and not what was inside?
As Fernanda watched her with eyes full of hatred, Nicholas turned and gave her a cold look.
Fernanda's heart skipped a beat when their eyes met.
Those eyes were too beautiful.
For a moment, she was completely lost.
How she wished she were in his arms instead of Caroline's!
His embrace seemed so warm, so secure... it must be a sweet and wonderful feeling to be wrapped up in it like that.
But the dream was short-lived.
The man entered the room with his arm around Caroline's waist, each step exuding power and coldness.
He looked directly at Fernanda and spoke in a low but sharp voice:
“Did you listen carefully to what my baby said?”
Fernanda was stunned.
“Sir...”
Nicholas interrupted her without paying any attention to her words.
"My wife is right. She was born to have a good life.
With that beautiful face, she is destined to get everything she wants without having to try.
He paused and added, ironically and firmly:
“If you're jealous of her because of that, you have no choice but to accept it. Life isn't fair.”
Fernanda's expression darkened.
Did he... hear everything?
And yet he was still defending Caroline?
