Chapter 65 Chapter 65
The call ended.
Caroline remained motionless for a few seconds, clutching her cell phone tightly.
Nicholas's last words echoed in her mind—deep, soft, and dangerously intimate.
“My dear, I want so much to hold you and kiss you.
Your husband misses you so much without the baby here.”
As soon as she remembered the low, hoarse tone in which he whispered those words, her face flushed.
Her heart raced so fast it felt like it was about to jump out of her chest.
Just the sound of his voice was enough to take her breath away—warm, intense, and yet tender enough to leave her completely defenseless.
She brought her hand to her face, trying to contain the heat rising to her cheeks.
Beside her, Tania watched with a mischievous smile.
“Honey, what did Prince Charming say to you? Why is your face so red?”
Caroline turned away, still not daring to look at her. “If you're so curious, get yourself a boyfriend. Then you'll find out.”
Tania laughed.
“Humph, forget it.” She stretched her arms and sighed. “Instead of wasting my time dating some random guy, I'd better figure out how to make a lot of money. Besides money, I'm not interested in anything else.”
But a second later, her smile reappeared.
“Now... if I found a man as extraordinary as Prince Charming, then I would consider falling in love. But since the chances of that are almost nil... I think it's better to stay single.”
Caroline laughed softly. “Wow, Tania, you're so exceptional. If you don't find a man who's good enough, how could he be right for you? It's better to stay single than to be with someone who doesn't deserve you.”
In fact, Caroline believed that.
Tania was special—beautiful, confident, and free-spirited.
At 5'7", with an elegant body and an expressive face, she attracted attention everywhere she went.
Both were beautiful in their own way:
Caroline, with her calm and refined charm, resembled a distant goddess.
Tania, on the other hand, was a vibrant fairy—lively, daring, and irresistibly captivating.
Together, they were known in college as “the Beautiful Duo.”
In addition, Tania was incredibly independent.
Without financial support from her family, she paid for her own college tuition.
She worked as a model for online stores—and thanks to her beauty and camera presence, the clothes she wore sold out quickly.
She may not have been a celebrity, but she earned more than many graduates.
After resting long enough, they got up.
Tania patted her skirt, dusting it off.
“Let's go, before I change my mind and faint right here.”
The two began walking back to the dorm.
But as soon as they reached the door of the building, a figure appeared running toward them.
They both got scared and took a step back.
Before they could make out who it was, a polite, nervous voice echoed:
“Miss Carol, Miss Tania! You're finally back!”
Caroline blinked, confused.
That voice...
Wasn't it the counselor's?
They looked up and saw a man in a suit, glasses, and an apprehensive expression—their counselor.
But something was... wrong.
He looked nothing like the authoritative man from before.
Now, his hands were clasped, his posture almost submissive.
His smile was polite—almost too respectful.
Caroline and Tania exchanged suspicious glances.
“What's going on?” whispered Tania. “Since when does he talk to us like this?”
Caroline didn't know either.
But one thing was certain: the counselor was nervous.
And, from the way he was treating them now, he seemed to be in the presence of two very important people.
Before they could understand what was happening, the counselor suddenly took a step back and bowed toward them.
"Ladies, I was wrong before. It was not right of me to punish you for the mistakes of others. After reflecting, I realized my mistake. I will never make it again, so I ask you to give me a chance to correct myself. Please forgive me.
With that, he bowed to them again.
Both of them remained silent, in shock.
What... was going on?!
Why was the counselor doing self-reflection and apologizing instead of reflecting on what had happened?
Realizing that they were not responding, the counselor panicked. “Student Ford, Student Jiang, I truly realize my mistake!
If you are not satisfied with my apology, I will run three laps around the field as well. No, I will run five!”
Caroline was slowly recovering from the shock.
She had a suspicion.
She remembered the phone call she had had with Nicholas a short time ago.
Had Nicholas done something to make the counselor so afraid?
It seemed to be the only possible explanation.
With that, the counselor was about to go to the field to run, but Caroline hurriedly interrupted him.
"Counselor, please wait! Tania and I don't blame you for this. You don't need to apologize to us, much less run around the field.
In fact, considering his position, she didn't think the counselor had done anything really wrong.
He couldn't just ignore a fight in the dormitory.
A reflective essay and a few laps around the field weren't harsh punishments.
“Really?” The counselor was stunned for a moment, before an expression of relief and excitement took over his face. He grabbed Caroline's hand. “Student Ford, does that mean you forgive me?”
“Um...” Caroline discreetly withdrew her hand. "Counselor, as I said, you did nothing wrong. We were the ones who were wrong for fighting in the dormitory.
The counselor looked a little upset.
“Aluna Ford, won't you forgive me?”
“... No.”
“Then why did you say that?”
Caroline sighed in exasperation.
“Fine, I forgive you.”
It seemed like he wouldn't leave her alone until he heard it explicitly.
She didn't know what Nicholas had done to scare that man so much.
“Really? Aluna Ford, are you really forgiving me?”
“... Yes, I forgive you.”
“What about Tania?”
Tania's eyes narrowed slightly before she nodded. “Um, I forgive you too.”
The counselor put his hand on his chest, as if he had just escaped from hell. His eyes even looked teary.
“Thank you for your magnanimity.”
Caroline was speechless.
So was Tania.
“Please wait.” The counselor, now more relaxed, entered the dorm room.
