Chapter 72 A new beginning?
Chapter 72: A New Beginning?
“May I?” Golden said finally reacting as she reached for what was inside the bag.
She pulled out a frame that was wrapped in soft paper and carefully tore off the wrapping paper.
Golden suddenly gasped. She put her hand over her mouth as she looked at the picture.
Her chest constricted before releasing a warm current.
Before she could think of it, she had moved to hug Allan.
She hadn't seen a picture of her mother in a long time and he just gifted her one.
She was yet to study the picture properly but she already felt a deep connection with it.
“Thank you. This is priceless.” she said with a muffled voice into his shoulder.
She breathed in his sandal and mint scent and was oddly calm.
She quickly broke the hug and using the sleeve of her cloth, she cleaned her eyes.
She didn't want to get tears on her picture and ruin in.
She carefully put it back in the gift bag.
“5 minutes is up already so I wouldn't take up more of your time.
We have a lot to talk about but I wouldn't force you to have the conversation yet.
Whenever you are ready to talk, I will be there.” Allan said standing up.
He hadn't expected the hug and before he could react, it was done.
He felt regret and a sudden emptiness when she broke the hug.
It seemed like ages since they had been that close and he craved the warmth that came from being close to her.
He had hope that things would get better moving forward. He would wait patiently for her to slowly accept him again.
“Allan. I have unblocked you. I did a whole ago.
No need to use Octavia to try to get to me again. You can reach out to me directly.”
With that, Golden stood up and walked back to the house filled with so many emotions.
She would have loved it if Allan actually took the courage to talk to her.
She wasn't as opposed to the idea as she was before, but at the same time she was grateful he didn't insist because she wasn't too sure if she was ready.
So many conflicting emotions. But one thing was certain, she loved her art work.
Allan watched Golden go back into the house.
He almost wanted to stop her. The hug unlocked something in his heart.
He still wasn't sure how exactly he felt about her, but he could tell that he felt something.
There was something special about Golden. She unlocked something within him that he couldn't put a finger on.
All he knew was that he wanted to be close to her. He missed seeing her smile for him.
Allan closed his eyes and tried to remember the hug again. He wanted to register how it felt.
He also registered her scent. She smelled like strawberry and rosewood.
Allan was really confused. But he was certain he wanted to be in her corner again.
She had unblocked him, that seemed like a good step in the right direction.
Allan still didn't know exactly he did wrong, but he was ready to right that wrong.
Octavia came back to the lounge to meet Allan deep in thought.
He had that forlorn look again and Octavia couldn't help shake her head.
She knew that Golden used to like her brother but she wasn't sure what happened.
“Allan, can we go now? I'm kinda hungry.” Octavia said pulling him out of his thoughts.
On the other side of town...
Alex had asked Golden to borrow Varney for the night.
She had something important she needed to do.
Nana Chen had asked her to cultivate her relationship and she decided to do just that.
She insisted on driving and Varney let her. He looked at the woman he was falling deeper in love with everyday as she took the wheels.
He didn't pay attention to where they were going and just listened to her talk about her dad and Shirley and all that had transpired that morning.
Soon they arrived at their destination. Only then did he realize that she had brought him to the cemetery.
She got down from the car and gave him a minute to decide whether he would come down or not.
She wasn't going to rush him. If he chose not to come down, then she would get back in and drive away, no questions asked.
After about a minute, Varney who wasn't expecting Alex to bring him here but wasn't surprised she did came down from the car.
His heart was in his mouth as he slowly began moving forward.
Then he felt Alex clasp his hand. She held him as if reassuring him.
Looking at their interlocked fingers, he slowly calmed down.
When they got to the front of his parents grave, she released his hand and knelt to take a bow.
She bowed three times and said;
“Hi Uncle and Aunty. I told you I would be back again.
I've kept my word and brought Varney back with me.
We are dating now and I hope you can give us your blessings.
He really loves me. Aunty I hope you can bless me so that I can fall in love with him quickly too.”
After that, Alex bowed three times and stepped back.
Varney looked at Alex and listened to everything she said to his parents.
His chest tightened and he had a lot to say to her but he held back.
He went to his parents grave and sat on the floor beside it.
“Hi mum, dad. It's been far too long I came. I couldn't come because I was broken.
There's a lot I want to tell you guys” he sniffed and tried controlling the tears that was about to fall.
“I promise I would visit often and tell you all about it in time.
You can rest well now. We are fine. Alex has made sure of it.
Like she said, we are dating now. You guys would have loved her.
She's amazing. In six months, she has managed to bring us healing that we've been missing for six years.
She's crazy, but she's my crazy and I love her so much.
So yeah mum, please help my crazy Alex fall in love with me quickly.” Varney said laughing softly and cleaning the tears that managed to escape from his eyes.
