Chapter 61 Creating new memories
Chapter 61: Creating New Memories
Fab went up next and following Alex step, he lit another incense and bowed three times.
“Hi Mr & Mrs Nixon. My name is Fabulous but you can call me Fab.
I am Gigi's fake boyfriend/second best friend. I hope you are enjoying the afterlife?
No need to worry too much about Gigi. I would always make sure there's always a smile on her face.”
Fab stood up and went to stand beside Gigi.
Golden watched her best friends kneel to her parents and speak to them.
She was an avid reader so she was familiar with this Asian tradition.
She never knew that one day someone would do this for her.
She had not visited her parents grave since they died, but her friends had not just visited but knelt and paid homage to them.
They had defied all odds and shown her what true love and friendship is.
“Now it's your turn. It's time to let go and heal.” Alex said and led her forward.
She offered her the last incense and stepped back.
Golden knelt, lit the incense and for every bow she made, she felt lighter.
By the third bow, there was a gentle gust of wind, a little white dove flew and perched on the gravestone and then flew away.
There was no need for any words. Golden felt the last bit of worry melt away.
A well suddenly opened inside her and she felt it fill with a glowing light.
Golden stood up and went back to Alex and hugged her.
“This is the best birthday gift ever” she said with tears.
“Now that you've gotten your birthday gift, I still have your Christmas gift.” Alex signaled Fab and he handed her a small box.
“Remember when I said that we were in sync with our gifts? Well I got us diamonds too.”
She then pulled out a diamond infinity charm bracelet with a heart shape the bore their initials on each heart.
There was an extra charm on Golden's bracelet. It was an ocean wave to signify peace.
As she wore Golden her bracelet, she said:
“From henceforth, I wish you peace. May you begin to live your life freely.”
Golden also took out the second bracelet and wore in on Alex's hand.
And Fab surprisingly took out a love charm and gave it to Golden to add to Alex's bracelet.
Golden understood what he meant and said: “I wish that as you have shown others love, you also experience true love.”
“Okay okay. No more mushy feelings. No one is allowed to cry anymore.
Let's get out of here. I have one final surprise.” Fab said
Alex went back and blew out the incense and said:
“Bye Uncle & Aunty. We would visit again soon”
“I can't believe you both got diamonds. It's not fair. I'm also a best friend okay—where is my own diamond?” Fab said sucking
“I had a feeling you would say that. Here—catch!” Alex said throwing something to Fab.
Fab caught it. It was a small jewelry pouch.
Excitedly, he opened it and pulled something out from it.
It was a diamond infinity bracelet suitable for men.
It wasn't a charm bracelet like the girls own and didn't have his initials like theirs, but it did look like a matching set with theirs.
Fab smiled and immediately put it on.
Alex look told him if he tried to hug her he would die so he smiled instead and said:
“Thank's bestie. I know you secretly love me—I love you too.
Don't worry I wouldn't tell anyone that you have a heart.”
Fab raised his hand up and the diamond caught the light of the setting sun.
Fab drove the girls back to the restaurant and they went back to their private booth.
Soon a cake was delivered to their booth and Fab lit the number 22 candle on the cake.
“Now that Gigi doesn't hate her birthday anymore, it is only right we celebrate with a cake.
Make a wish girl and blow out your candles” Fab said placing a birthday cone hat on Gigi's head while he and Alex wore theirs.
Golden blew out her candles and made a silent wish in her heart.
They cut the cake and while they ate, Fab took pictures of them.
He then played music from his phone and asked them to dance while he filmed everything.
They had a blast and when it was 8 pm, they decided to call it a night.
Fab drove Alex back to Chinatown and then took Golden back home.
Nixon Estate...
Varney was casually scrolling through his phone when a message dropped.
It read: “Merry Christmas Dude”. And attached to it was a collection of pictures and videos.
When he opened the pictures, he was shocked.
There was a picture of Alex, Fab, and Golden at the cemetery.
He clicked on the first video and it was a video of Alex paying her respect to his parents.
He listened to everything she said and he felt heaviness in his chest.
He saw Golden bow and not say anything but saw the moment the dove perched on the gravestone and flew away.
The next video was of Golden blowing out her candles and then dancing happily.
There were pictures of all three of them laughing and making funny faces.
Varney dropped his phone and began to think. Alex had managed to do something no one could do.
She had said she was off to create new memories and she did.
He felt indepthed to her.
Fab had made good use of the glasses Alex had gifted him.
He felt today was significant and a turning point for Golden so he recorded every significant moment.
Sending it to Varney was his own gift to him.
He was the reason he now owned one of a kind gadgets.
Golden entered into the house to meet Varney lost in thought.
She dropped everything she was holding and flung herself into his arms.
“Someone had a swell time I see?” Varney said smiling.
“You have no idea V”
“You promised me juicy dits—now spill”
Golden went on and gave Varney a lowdown of everything that happened.
By the time she was done, Varney had tears in his eye.
He would only cry in front of his sister.
“I'm so happy for you Gigi. You can finally start to live your life.” He said as he wiped away his tears.
“Please tell me you brought me a slice of the birthday cake”
“Yeah I definitely saved you a piece. How could I not?
It's the first cake I'm having since forever. Of course you get a slice.”
Later that night, Varney drove to Chinatown and sent Alex a message
Varney: I'm outside your house.
