Chapter 55: Nana Chen
By the time the girls arrived Chinatown, they met Fabulous parked outside.
They drove in and he followed behind till they got to Alex's house.
It was the first time Fabulous was coming to Alex's house and he appreciated how warm and cozy it was.
It was a five bedroom duplex, nothing like the estate he and Golden lived in.
Although Alex's family was rich, he liked the fact that kept it simple.
“Hi dad I'm home!” Alex shouted as she entered the house.
“I'm out at the back” he called back.
They went to the backyard to meet Alex dad trimming flowers.
“Good morning Professor Chen.” Golden called out a greeting.
“Hi Golden. It's good to see you. Who's the dude?” He turned to Alex and asked.
“Hi Professor Chen. My name is Fabulous Lawrence, Alex's best friend.” Fab introduced himself.
“Hi Fabulous, nice to meet you. I'm Alex's father.”
He then turns to Alex: “Since when do you have a bestie that I don't know about?”
Alex chuckles. “Unbelievable right? Even I don't know when this nerd over here became my bestie.
But I guess he is when I am not plotting his murder. I like what you've done with the garden”
Professor Chen gave Fabulous a pitiful look. “My condolence man. Being her friend requires a lot of guts.”
Golden laughed and patted Fab on the shoulder.
They decided to go to the airport with two cars since their number had increased.
Professor Chen rode alone while Fab joined Alex and Golden in their car.
Golden had come in her Range Rover so there was enough room to fit them all.
They got to the airport just as the plane landed and they waited at arrivals for Nana Chen.
They sighted Nana Chen and this time she was with two little children she put on a children's leash.
Alex turned to her father.
“Why didn't you tell me your mother was coming with those two miscreants.”
“Honestly I had no idea. She never mentioned anything about bringing them the last time we spoke on the phone.” her dad responded.
“Besides apart from Nana, you are the only other person they listen to” he said already getting a headache.
“That's Nana Chen with the child leash” Golden whispered to Fab.
“Wow! She's just as legendary as I imagined her to be.” Fab said as he looked awestruck.
“Mum you didn't tell me you were coming with Xiner and Jingli”
Nana Chen immediately used her hand fan to smack her son.
“Is that how you greet your mother you've not seen in a long time?”
“Ouch! Mum can you not do that? We are in public?” Prof Chen complained.
“Who cares?” She continued smacking him.
Fab and Golden watched from the side enjoying the show.
Alex quickly stepped in to stop her grandma from assaulting her father in public.
“Nana welcome! You must have had a very tiring flight. Let me take these two off your hands.”
Alex collects the leash and hands them over to an unexpecting Fab
Before Nana Chen could put on another drama, Alex led her out of the airport.
Nana decides as punishment, Xinner and Jingli should ride with Chen while she joined Alex's car.
They soon got back to the house and the first thing Nana Chen did was go to her garden.
She nodded in approval and Alex released her breathe.
The tired look on Prof Chen's face when he arrived showed that he must have had a very toturing ride with the twins.
They quickly made a hotpot dish and sat at the table to eat.
Fab went to the car and brought out a bottle of wine and presented to Nana Chen.
“Nana Chen I brought this wine to commemorate our meeting. I'm a very big fan” Fab said and handed over the bottle to Nana.
“I really like this guy.” she collected the wine and hid it under the table.
“Gigi, Luo sends his regards. He should have joined me to Florida but something came up.”
“Oh please Nana. Luo who couldn't talk to Gigi when he was here suddenly sends his regards?” Alex smirked.
“Why is it impossible? He really likes her.” Nana ignored Alex and said
“Gigi my dear you should really consider Luo. He's a good catch.
“Mum!”
“Okay okay. I will leave the girl alone.” Turning to Fab,
“Young man, you seem pretty nice. Do you have a girlfriend?
You know I have this very beautiful granddaughter studying Fashion designing back home in Bejing.
She has her own fashion brand and..”
“Nana! God you are incorrigible!” Alex said laughing and shaking her head.
“What have I done this time? You guys said I should leave Gigi and I did.
I promised Xiaoxi I would find her a good husband.” Turning back to Fab.
“do you want to see a picture? She's really pretty.
“Nana, you are backing up the wrong tree. You are about to steal someone's boyfriend right in their presence.” Alex said shaking her head.
“I don't understand.” Nana said confused
Prof Chen raised his head.“This should be interesting”
“Fab and Golden are dating. So you can stop trying to set either of them up.” Alex said
Prof Chen raised a brow “Congratulations you two”
“Why didn't you say so sooner? Come get glasses let's toast to them” Nana Chen brought out the wine she had hidden earlier.
Golden and Fab exchanged a knowing look and tried not to laugh.
“Instead of trying to set my friends up, why don't you try setting dad up.
He's been single forever ”
“Hey! What did I do to you honey? Why set me up like that?” Prof Chen raised his hands
Golden and Fab bursted out laughing and apologized when everyone turned to look at them.
“You think I have not tried? At first I left him alone out of respect for your mother, then I also considered you” Nana said to Alex.
“Please proceed. No need to respect my feelings. I'm an adult and he needs a woman before he becomes a monk.” Alex said smiling.
“Really Alex did I offend you somehow?” Prof Chen asked his daughter.
“Look dad, I only want what's best for you. I'm almost always at Golden's, you need a woman.”
“Then it's settled. I'll start looking. I have a couple of candidates in mind.” Nana Chen said her mind beginning to calculate.
Fab watched the whole drama play out. It was as if he was watching reality TV: “Keeping Up with the Chens'”
“Well thanks mum but no thanks. I already have a girlfriend.” Prof Chen suddenly dropped a bomb.
Alex and her Nana spat out their wine at the same time as if planned.
Fab looked on with wide eyes. He was so happy he came over. This was by far better than any TV show.
