Chapter 14 Golden brought a friend home
Chapter 14: Golden Brought a Friend Home
Golden and Alex drove to the mall and Golden served as a tour guide introducing most of the shops to Alex.
Golden was big on perfumes and dragged Alex to go and check out the new collections of perfumes.
She was a VIP customer and rarely came into the physical store because Linda and her cronies often visited the store too.
She had enough of them at school and didn't want to have to run into them at the mall.
At least at the mall, no one really cared about her size so she tried avoiding the hours her schoolmates would normally frequent the mall.
She mostly came to the mall at odd hours if she must. Or else she stayed home and ordered whatever she wanted and had them delivered to the house.
This was the first time she was coming to the mall at this hour and wasn't bothered if she ran into anyone from school and that was because she was with Alex.
The girls picked a couple of perfumes, more like Golden picked a couple of perfumes and insisted on buying some for Alex too.
Alex looked at Golden light up as she took her to different stores. From the perfume store, they went to wristwatch store where Golden insisted on getting them new wristwatches even though the ones the had on were perfectly fine.
Then they moved on to get school supplies before finally ending up at the ice cream parlor.
“I know you said you were rich but you just blew 20 thousand dollars just like that.” Alex said as she took a scoop of her ice cream.
“I couldn't help myself. This is the first time I've ever gone shopping with a friend. Most times I go alone and at odd hours, or I place an order and have them deliver to the house.
I've never experienced shopping with someone else so I couldn't help it, sorry.”
Golden didn't want Alex to see her as some spoiled brat so she tried to explain herself.
She finally made a friend after all these years and she didn't want to ruin it before it had an opportunity to bloom.
Alex noticed Golden's downcast look and smiled at her.
“It's fine Golden, no need to apologize. And you should smile more often too.”
They finished their ice cream and headed home.
“Golden, my dad is asking for your house address.” Alex said as she typed on her phone.
“I live at the Upper East side. House 298 Nixon Drive. What would you like for dinner so I can ask the chef to prepare it?”
Golden asked as she turned the corner to start heading towards home.
“Anything is fine, I'm not a picky eater.” Alex responded.
“Siri, call Florence.” Golden said.
(Calling Florence...)
“Hi Florence, please inform the chef that I would be having potato casserole for dinner. Also, I am coming home with a friend.”
“Ok Miss Golden, will do.”
“Is my brother home?”
“Yes he is. Master Varney came home about 20 minutes ago.”
“I'll be home in the next 30 minutes.” Golden ended the call and picked up her speed.
She was eager to get home and see Varney. He had been out of the state for business. Although he was always busy, she missed him whenever he traveled.
After about 30 minutes, they arrived at the Nixon estate.
Alex was impressed by the architectural masterpiece.
The mansion sprawled across ten thousand square feet of unapologetic luxury, the kind that whispered old money and carefully curated taste.
A palm-lined driveway swept into a polished ten-car outdoor garage, each glossy bay reflecting her family name more loudly than she ever could.
Beyond it, a soft, fragrant garden stretched like a private sanctuary, leading to an infinity pool that shimmered all day and glowed all night.
From the outside, the estate was flawless with glass walls catching the sun, marble paths curving, everything arranged to look effortless and perfect.
It was a rare definition of wealth, opulence, and lifestyle.
Golden led Alex into the house and was shocked to see Varney sitting in the living room.
She rushed to give him a hug and that caught him by surprise.
It had been a while Golden hugged him that way.
He smiled and patted her back while asking her in a hush tone that only the both of them could hear.
“What's gotten into you today Gigi, why are you suddenly hugging me?” He called her by her pet name only him used.
“I'm happy V. I finally made a friend.” Golden said into his neck, her voice choked with emotions.
She quickly put herself in order before releasing her brother. Then she made the introductions.
“Alex this is my brother Varney Nixon. Varney, this is my friend Alex Chen.”
“It's nice to meet you Mr Nixon, I've heard so much about you.” Alex said as she shook his hand.
“Please call me Varney. Any friend of Golden is welcomed here. There's no need to be so formal. I'm interested in knowing what she has said about me.”
“Well for starters, she thought you hired me to be her friend when I was in fact just meeting her for the first time at lunch today.” Alex said to an amazed Varney.
“Why would you think that I would hire someone to be your friend Gigi? I will never do that to you, you should know that.” Varney said with a concerned look.
“Well look at her! She's a solid 10. She stood up to Linda and made her look like a fool for the first time. Then we drank water from the same bottle.
Now tell me again why I wouldn't think you hired her?” Golden said with an exaggerated look.
“Hold up! She made Linda look like a fool?
Which Linda? Cruella Linda?” an amused Varney asked.
“Yeah Cruella Linda! Now do you get it?” Golden said with her hands raised up.
Alex watched the Nixon siblings and she suddenly felt a warm sensation in her heart.
Turning to Alex, Varney said “Wow Alex, you are so cool if you did stand up to Linda. That girl has been a pain in the ass since Gigi was in 11th Grade. How much will it cost me to make you Gigi's best friend?”
“How about a million dollars?” Alex said jokingly.
“Are you sure you don't mean 1 billion?
So do you collect cheque or transfer?” Varney said with mock seriousness.
Alex looked at Varney with a dumbfounded expression, then Golden. “He's kidding right?”
“Nope!” The Nixon siblings said together.
