Chapter 124 Rings and Revelations
Chapter 124: Rings and Revelations
The ceremony finally came to an end and everyone filed out of the auditorium to take pictures.
Varney had prepared two bouquets of flowers to hand over to his two favorite girls.
He hugged Golden and handed her a bouquet of red roses. “Congratulations Gigi, I'm super proud of you. I will give you your gift later tonight.
He then handed Alex a bouquet of white lilies. “Congratulations my love, I'm also very proud of you.”
Tavia and Rema rushed over and hugged Golden.
“Wow Gigi, I would like to be like you some day. Academic Powerhouse, I want that too.” Octavia said.
“Thanks Tavia, you can be whatever you set your mind to be. Just work hard and stay focused.”
While they took pictures, Linda approached them holding her own flowers and smiling.
“Congratulations Nixon. You beat me by 0.2, not bad. Be careful, I intend to come for your crown in Med School.”
“Distinguished Faculty Scholar. You took a title and an award that hasn't been in use for a decade now, you should be proud Miller.
As for my crown, well we'll see about that. Congratulations to you too. Let's take a picture together if you don't mind.”
“Sure. Why not? By the way, your brother is hot. Is he single?” Linda asked in a voice only Golden could hear.
“Back off Linda or you might not even realize how you died. That's Alex's territory.” Golden whispered with a smile.
“Too bad, he deserves better” Linda said shaking her head.
“Yeah, he has better.” Golden nodded in agreement.
Varney, Golden, Alex, and Fab decided to have a private dinner. Allan was invited but he declined. He had something urgent to do and promised to have another dinner with them on another day.
Varney had made a reservation at a posh restaurant uptown. He drove the ladies while Fab followed behind.
On getting to the restaurant, there was a car parked with a red ribbon on it. It was the same car Golden had requested for about a month ago.
It was the same Lexus Rz 2025 model that Xander had but he had gotten her the metallic blue color of it.
Golden hugged Varney. “Thank you V. I love it. See it matches my suit.” She said smiling. “Can I take it for a spin?” She asked ready to drive off.
“Nope! After dinner you can take your new baby out for a drive. Let's go in first.” Varney said.
They walked in with Golden occasionally looking behind at her new car.
They soon placed their orders and while they waited for their orders to be brought, Fab proposed a toast. Just as he was about to start his toast, he froze.
Varney went in front of Alex and went on one knee, he brought out a black velvet box and looked her in the eyes.
“Alexandria Xinyi Chen. I know we agreed to have a trial relationship. You probably would kill me if you had a gun right now for not giving you heads-up but I think we both have passed our trial.
I know you just graduated and you have Medical School to think of. I know this is probably going to be a long ass engagement but I am really crazy about you and want you to be truly mine.
You can decide when you want the wedding, whether it is before you graduate medical school or during it. I leave with you the power to decide.”
Alex looked at Varney on his knees, her hands over her mouth and her eyes red and teary.
“I chose to propose in front of two of the most important people in your life and mine. And if you want something more grand, we can plan it.
“You might get to med school and meet other guys that might be better than me. Call me selfish but I want to choose you before the world tries.”
He opened the box to reveal a shiny diamond ring with a ruby stone. “Will you marry me Alex Chen? Today, tomorrow, or in the future?”
“Girlll look at that rock? If you don't say yes I will.” Fab said as he captured everything on video.
Alex couldn't hold the tears anymore. She knew how much Varney loved her. She felt her heart skip a beat. She would be a fool not to accept his proposal.
“Yes I will marry you.” Alex stretched her hand and he placed the ring on her finger and kissed her.
Golden stood up and hugged Alex and Varney. It was very emotional for her too and she was genuinely happy for them.
Fab changed his toast and toasted to Alex and Varney, wishing them happiness.
Their food arrived and they started eating and Golden had an internal conflict on whether it was the right time to mention London.
“Hey guys I have something to tell you all.” Golden began, not knowing how to say it.
“What's up Gigi, you seem agitated.” Alex said as she held Gigi's hand across the table.
“Well the thing is that I got a scholarship offer from the Northbridge School of Medicine London into their Graduate Entry Medicine Program.
Apparently one of the professors sent in an application and my report and the school went over my grades. They were impressed and offered me a full scholarship.
The scholarship also comes with an accommodation and a monthly allowance.”
“When did you find out about the scholarship?” Fab asked. He was very happy for Golden but he suspected she wasn't exactly thrilled.
“About three weeks ago. I was called into the Students' Advisor's Office two days before our final exams.” Golden said, not daring to look at anyone.
“Gigi?” Varney called out gently. “look at me? What really is the problem?
This is good news, but why does it seem like you are not happy about it?”
“Are you scared of leaving Allan?” Alex asked, hitting the nail on the head.
