Chapter 12 Forming new friendships
Chapter 12: Forming New Friendships
“Thanks Golden, that sounds better than my other options. Let me inform my dad and we can be on our way.” Alex said with a smile on her face as she placed a call through to her dad.
“Hey dad, I met a new friend at school today. Remember Golden?” She paused, exhaling. “Yeah. Can I go to her house and chill?” She looked around nodding. “Yeah, I'm sure. How long are we looking at?”
She pouted as the call continued. “That long? Okay I will ask her. I will send you the address and share my live location when I'm there. Okay, love you too. Make sure you get something to eat. Bye!” She ended the call and turned to face Golden fully.
“So my dad said he would need another four, maybe five hours. Is your offer still open? I can just head home if there's going to be any inconvenience.” Alex said to Golden, trying not to be a burden.
“No, it's fine. You can stay for as long as you like, you wouldn't be a bother. That way we can get to know each other better. You told your dad that I am your friend, am I really your friend?” Golden asked, a little hesitant.
“Of course we are friends or don't you consider me a friend?” Alex asked with a raise brow.
“Well why did you choose me? You could have picked any other person in school, why me?”
“Why not you Golden? You are smart, pretty and you have a good aura. You kinda remind me of someone I used to know.”
“Hmm! I am smart, yes. But pretty isn't a word that can be used in the same sentence as me. You know people only approach me for my brains or my money. I have never truly had a friend, so I guess that's why I am guarded.”
“I do like you for your brains though. And you are rich? I could have sworn that your handbag is an imitation.” Alex said with a smirk then went out.
“Come on girl, you promised me a trip to the mall. And since I know you are rich, you are paying.
By the way, how are we going to the mall exactly? Are we going to wait for your driver or are we going to take a bus? I'm fine with either.”
“I drove actually. Let's go to the car park.”
Alex and Golden went to the car park and Alex was impressed with Golden's ride.
It was a Steel black 2023 Porsche Cayenne S powered by a 4.0-litre biturbo V8 engine with a maximum power output of 349 kW (474 PS) and a drag torque of 600 Nm.
Golden had a thing for cars. And Varney always indulged her. It was his own way of trying to keep her happy.
He knew she didn't have friends and would sometimes go on night drives just to clear her head.
Once upon a time, when their parents were still alive, he would normally take her to watch car races.
They both loved fast cars and Golden had once told him that she felt free whenever she was behind the wheels.
The demons that hunt her always disappeared with the wind.
They stopped going for night drives and car races after their parents death because he had to step up and take up the responsibility of running his father's company and looking after Golden.
He felt bad for Golden for not being as present as he should. And buying her cars was one of the ways he expressed his love for her.
Allan stepped out from behind the curb as he noticed Golden zoom off with Alex.
He didn't know how to feel. They had been put in the same group for their presentation.
Golden had kept to her word and didn't say anything about him being her maid’s son.
When she looked at him in the class asking for permission to let Alex join their group, he felt a certain type of way. And in his usual fashion, he shrugged like he didn't care.
He really messed up and shouldn't have done her dirty. He saw her countenance change when they laughed about it, but there was nothing he could do about it.
Then surprisingly, Alex stood up for her and a faint light seemed to appear in her eyes.
Their classmates had laughed and said he wasn't going to put in the work.
He had been looking for a way to get close to her, but after that stunt he pulled and what she had said to him on Saturday in her house. He doubted very much that he would be able to get through to her.
The stars were in his favor and they were paired for a presentation. He had three weeks to set his plan in motion.
Allan threw away the but of the cigarette he had been smoking and used his leg to stump it.
He brought out a mint and popped two in his mouth, preparing to head out.
He caught Linda's silhouette from the corner of his eyes and made a move to leave before she got to him.
He was aware that Linda liked him. And one of the reasons she picked on Golden was because Golden was better than her at everything.
Golden always managed to suppress her academically, not giving her any opportunity to shine.
Not only was Golden intelligent, she was also wealthy. He knew how jealous Linda was of Golden and all the designers she owned so she used the one only thing she had that Golden didn't have to make her life a living hell.
She was the class Belle and used the fact that every guy wanted her to taunt Golden.
“Hey Allan, wait up!” Linda hurried to catch up to Allan.
“I know you don't want to be in the same group as that fatty, so I already have a solution to your problem.
“How about you swap groups with me?” Linda asked with a bashful smile.
“You want to be in the same group with Golden?” He asked a little surprised.
“No silly! I mean, I can trade Fabulous Lawrence for you. Wouldn't that be perfect? A nerd and a fatty will make a perfect team.” Linda smiled removing a string of thread from his hair.
“Well no thanks. I'm good with my group.” Allan stylishly tried removing Linda's hand that was resting on his shoulder.
“You are joking right? Don't tell me you are trying to skip out on the work because you know fatty would do all the work. Or are you attracted to that vixen Alex?”
“I've got to go. Some friends are waiting for me. I will see you around”.
Allan turned and got on his bike and rode away.
