Chapter 118 An unexpected opportunity
Chapter 118: An Unexpected Opportunity
Pre med finals were just exactly five days away and every student became very serious.
The library and the common room were always full with students in small clusters reading and drilling themselves.
The exam was going to run for one week and whoever set the timetable seemed to be after their lives.
Toxicology, Calculus and Biochemistry were placed on the same day. And they were to be written on the third day of the exams.
Anatomy and Pharmacology were their first two papers. They had a break on the second day and had the deadly trio on the third day.
Rema had been discharged from the hospital and was back to his normal life, so that gave Allan peace to study for his finals.
Golden, Allan, Alex, and Fab often met up in the common room for group study.
Even Linda, was noticeably absent. She had gone to hibernate somewhere to prepare for the exams.
She might be trouble wrapped up in red curls, but she was a very brilliant lady who didn't joke with her studies.
Two days to the exams, Golden was called into the Students' Advisor's office.
“Please have a seat Miss Nixon. I just received a letter from Northbridge School of Medicine UK.
It is my understanding that one of your professors wrote to them and applied for a scholarship into their Graduate Entry Medicine program on your behalf.
They were very impressed with your academic records and decided to give you a full scholarship.
You are about graduating, and I think this is a rare opportunity that you should really consider.” The counselor said, handing over the letter to Golden.
Golden collected the letter dumbstruck. She couldn't believe what the counselor was saying.
She had heard of Northbridge School of Medicine but it had never occured to her to go study there.
All her life, she had been in Florida and although she had gone to London a couple of times, she had never considered living there.
Now she was getting this offer. If she accepts it, she would have to move to London and live there for four years.
Golden opened the letter and read it carefully. It was real and sent from the Registrar of the college.
Not only was she offered a full scholarship, it also came with an accommodation, and monthly allowance.
She felt flustered and was in between happiness and fear. London was far from home, and home was where her family was, where Allan was.
If she accepted the offer, then she would resume in Fall which was in three months time.
“You don't have to make a decision right away. What you should focus on is passing your final exams and then you can decide.”
“Thank you very much sir. Can I please go with this letter?” Golden asked, still not over the shock.
“Sure Miss Nixon. The school has another copy so you can go with that.
After your exams, you can take your time to look up the school and also have a chat with the student advisor.
Congratulations Miss Nixon, and good luck in your final exams.”
Golden didn't know how she managed to walk out of the office.
She went straight to the restroom to wash her face and get herself together.
She thought of sharing the news with her friends but decided that it could wait till after their exams.
She hadn't decided to accept the offer yet so she might as well not inform anyone yet.
She got back to the common room and met Fab, Alex and Allan dozing on the chair.
She chuckled at the sight. Alex was curled up like a kitten on one of the sofas. Fab was sprawled on a bean bag, his glasses almost falling off his eyes and his curls scattered around his face.
Allan lay on the lounged chair with a book over his eyes.
Golden brought out her phone and took a picture of the three of them before waking them up.
“Wake up sleepy heads, it's time to call it a day.” Golden said going from person to person to wake them up.
“What time is it? Fab asked stretching as he got up.
“It's 7:39 pm.” Golden responded. “How about we go for some ice cream before we call it a night?” Golden said to them.
“Ice cream sounds fine. Anything to cool off my brain, count me in.” Alex said as she packed up her bag.
They left the common room and Golden decided to ride with Allan on his bike while Alex rode with Fab in his car.
Fab had become the designated driver since they started preparing for their finals.
He always passed by the estate to pick the girls up. Alex was staying at the estate so she could concentrate on preparing for her exams since her uncles and aunties were still in town.
They got to the ice cream parlor and Allan and Fab went to place their orders while the ladies grabbed a table outside for them.
Although it was Tuesday, they decided to go for an ice cream sundae.
They discussed about the forthcoming exams and Alex promised to put whoever designed their timetable in a body bag.
The rest didn't object. The timetable really wasn't funny. It was as though the person behind it was trying to to stretch their limits.
The only good thing about the timetable was that they had a break before the killer combination.
They had two papers on Thursday, had Friday free and then they had to resume on Monday to write Toxicology, Calculus, and Biochemistry.
After finishing up their ice cream, Allan and Golden decided to go for a stroll.
It was a beautiful evening and very perfect for a walk.
“How's Rema doing?” Golden asked.
“He's much better. He has resumed school and when he's not resting, he's playing the game you gave to him.
With the rate at which he's going, I wouldn't be surprised if he decides to become a game developer like your brother.” Allan said.
Golden got a text from Alex saying that she and Fab had to leave. He got a call from home and so they were leaving.
She asked Golden to tell Allan to bring her home. She already helped them carry their bags.
Allan could pick up his backpack when he dropped her off.
“Alex and Fab have left. Fab had to go so he took Alex home. They also carried our bags so you get yours when you drop her off at home.” Golden informed Allan.
“How about a night drive to our favorite spot?” Allan asked.
“Sure. You know I wouldn't say no to a night drive.” Golden said smiling.
