Chapter 45 Prank gone wrong

Chapter 45 Prank gone wrong
NIKOLAI

Anger is bubbling in me as I watch her run out of the hall. I clench the glass of champagne so tightly that the glass breaks under my grip and the splinters fall to the ground. The heads of everyone shift from the door to me, eyes widening in horror.

“Don Nikolai!" Elios’s wife gasps and begins to approach me, but Elios pulls her back. He knows well enough to get her out of my way if he doesn't want her burnt down by my anger.

I am fucking seeing red and will kill anyone who dares to step into my way with some fake mask of sympathy.

I clench my fist and begin to march out of the hall, crushing the rest of the glass with my feet.

From the corner of my eye, I watch Estella grin in satisfaction.

If I find out that bitch had a hand in this, I'll fucking kill her.

Everyone steps out of the way and draws back, daring not to say a word or show any emotion.

I grip the door handles and push the door open, then step into the cold night.

Shit! It's raining!

I groan loudly and raise my hand over my head, cursing in anger as I race to the garage.

When my eyes lock with one of the guards approaching me with an umbrella, the guard freezes, and the umbrella drops upon realization of who I am.

His mouth moves in what seems to be ‘sorry’ before he turns around and scrambles away.

I curse again and keep running, constantly glancing at the wristwatch around my wrist till I run into the garage.

I pull off my drenched blazer and throw it into one of the seats, then slip into the car and ignite it, then drive out of the Villa so roughly that I almost run down one of the guards on patrol.

I pick up my phone and dial Tom's number.

“Boss?" he blurts out when the line connects.

"Go after her right now!" I growl.

“Yes, boss," he replies, and the call ends.

My veins are popping out of my hands as I drive angrily through the street. It's raining heavily now, and I doubt if she'll be able to get there before Tom.

Someone must have found out about the fear I am putting her through and is using it against me.

I don't know what she must have heard to make her rush out of the hall, but I'm sure it's because of Jesse.

As I drive across the street, barely seeing because of the heavy downpour, I notice the blood dripping down on the wheel.

“Shit!" I curse when I notice that my palm is bleeding. I grab a handkerchief and wipe the blood on my palm. I will have to deal with the splinters of glass in my palm later, for now, I need to make sure she doesn't fall into the trap, whoever the motherfucker is, set.

I keep driving like a maniac across the road, almost crashing into cars and ignoring traffic rules.

If she reaches the murder scene before Tom or me, it's gonna be trouble.

I growl loudly and hit the horn when a car blocks me.

I roll down my window and poke my head out, staring at the reflection of the bastard in the side mirror.

There are cars behind me, and that's making it impossible to get out.

My eyes dart over to the sidewalk, then back at the red lights. I still have to wait for more than a fucking minute before I can move, and I can't do that shit right now.

I slam my foot on the speed pedal and drive back, almost colliding with the car behind mine.

I grip the wheels and swerve the car sharply into the sidewalk, then drive off roughly.

Screams and horns fill the air, but I keep driving. People fly out of the way to avoid getting hit, and from my rearview mirror, I watch the traffic officers run after my car, shouting warnings that I can't hear and don't give a damn about.

My phone rings, and I veer back to the road before accepting the call.

“I found her," Tom says, and I sigh in relief, then run my hand over my hair.

“Is she alone?" I ask.

“Yes, I paid off the owner of the taxi she was in. Though she is unconscious. Forgive me, but I had to crash into the taxi to stop her," he mutters.

I sigh and run my hand through my hair.

“That's okay, keep her with you, I'll be there soon," I mutter and step on the speed pedal.

By the time I get to the place Tom found her, the downpour has gotten worse, and the news of the assassination is already in the air.

Tom steps out of the car and runs towards me with an umbrella when I park the car.

I grab the door handle and pull it open, cursing in rage.

“She is in the passenger seat,” Tom says as we march towards his car.

I pull the door open and stare at her pale face. My fist clenches in anger, and rage burns in me when I notice the streaks of dried tears on her face.

I sigh loudly, regretting scaring her off with such news in the first place.

I bend down and pick her up, cupping her in my arms before heading towards my car.

“She will be alright, right?" Tom asks while he holds the umbrella over me.

“I think so," I mutter in a grumpy voice.

“I thought you were going to keep it till the party is over," he mutters, and my feet stop.

Tom flinches, his brows raising.

“Forgive me," he whispers.

My eyes dim, and the events that took place before she rushed out fill my head.

She seemed to be walking towards Estella when she stopped and stared at a group of men.

I remember one of the men looked at me with mischief in his eyes as they spoke.

Could they have… fuck!

“Find some bastards for me. I'm sure someone paid them to say something about that prank I wanted to play on her,” I mutter, and his head tilts.

"What do they look like, boss?” He asks as I drop her into the passengers' seats.

"Get the pictures of everyone who attended the party. I don't think the men are that popular,” I reply, and he nods his head.

As I walk over to the driver's side, a light overhead flashes into my eyes, and I stop.

The light goes off, and a white car comes into view.

Estella steps out of the car, and my brows shoot up.

“She is back?" Tom whispers, then swerves his head in my direction.

I remain silent, watching her approach me.

“What do you want?" I snap when she gets closer.

“Nikolai, you have to stop her!" She mutters and grips my hand.

I stare at her hand clasped around mine, and I smirk.

“You followed me… or you followed her?” I ask, and her head shoots up.

She jerks her head towards the car and peers into the passenger's side.

"You found her?” She chuckles.

I growl and tear my hand out of her grip, then wrap my hand around her throat.

She gasps loudly, her eyes widening in horror.

I slam her back on the car, and she winces in pain.

"What are you planning to do to her?” I growl out in anger.

She coughs and slaps her hand on my wrist.

"Fuck you, Nikolai, I did nothing to that bitch!” She rasps out.

"Then why are you here?” I ask.

"Because she threatened to expose our relationship before everyone in the organization!” She snaps, and my eyes darken.

I let go of her throat, and she drops to her knees, wheezing and rubbing her reddened neck.

She stops and springs up, glaring at me.

“You'd better keep her mouth shut. If she says a word about me, I swear I will kill her for sure!" She spits out and steps closer.

“I can't believe you see me as one of your enemies," she chuckles and drops her hand on my shoulder.

“You won't like Leonardo finding out that you fucked me even on our wedding day!" She whispers, and I scoff loudly, narrowing my eyes.

She huffs loudly and steps back after squeezing my shoulder.

“And the next time you try to choke me again, I will kill you," she says, and my lips twitch up.

"It's not like you have a weapon with you to do that,” I mock.

She frowns deeply and quickly pulls out my revolver from my car, then points it at me.

"Well, I do now,” she smiles.

"You better be careful…" She lowers the gun to my pants.

“I could blow up your balls since we're no longer together," she says and cups my cheek.

“But I won't because I still need it for our future babies," she whispers and kisses my neck before spinning around and walking off to her car.

“That lady is crazy!" Tom shrieks in disgust as he watches her get into the car.

I scoff and pull the door open, then get in.

“I will send the pictures to you tomorrow, boss," Tom leans in and says.

I nod and turn on the engine, then drive off with Kaitlyn lying in the back seat.
