Chapter 94 - Hour 94
Tears streamed down Zayd's face. He had been in shock for the past fifteen minutes. He had not moved an inch.
"Zayd," I said, rubbing his back.
He could not hear me. It was obvious by the faraway look in his eyes and the tears glazing his eyes.
Five minutes later, he moved.
His eyes found me.
I let go of my mourning and tried to appear strong for his sake. He looked absolutely broken.
"She is not going to live to see her child smile. The child she strived so hard to protect, she cannot–" His voice broke. "She gave it her all. I saw it."
I had no words to say. There was no need for any comforting words. This was not a moment that demanded comfort. The tragedy of this situation needed acceptance, mourning, and making peace with reality, but only after the tears, the anger, the frustration, the screams, and the hurt had all been let out.
