Chapter 85 - Hour 85
I saw a shadow creep up behind Ryan. At first, I thought it was one of his men. But the careful manner of approach and the raised gun made my muscles relax slightly. It was the police.
Just one more minute, Daria. Distract him so that they can grab him.
Cara and Zayd also noticed the police but they maintained their composure. Ryan could not know.
"Why do you have to stoop so low, Ryan?" I asked, "You have destroyed your life." Then I added, "How did you know I was here? I thought I distracted you with the news on OneLife. You should have been there."
He smirked. "I just had to make a call to my people there. They told me there was no sign of any car or person around the hospital. They checked everywhere. Even inside the woods. That's when it clicked that it was a distraction. Otherwise, you would not have risked Zayd's life even after my threat. So, I came here. And bingo! I was right."
His eyes widened suddenly as he felt the cold metal press against the back of his head. It was my turn to smirk.
"Drop the gun," said the officer.
Ryan's face contorted into a furious scowl. "You bloody–"
"Drop the gun," the officer said again. "Or I will pull the trigger."
The gun slipped from Ryan's hand and dropped down to the floor.
I let out a relieved sigh and wiped the beads of sweat off my forehead.
"I can barely feel her pulse. We must rush her to the hospital immediately!" Cara cried.
I turned to see that she was kneeling next to Liana.
"The ambulance is already downstairs," the officer said. "Apparently, the reported called them when she saw that a pregnant woman was held captive."
