Chapter 50 The Neighbor Across the Door Turns Out to Be Him
Chapter 50 The Neighbor Across the Door Turns Out to Be Him
Alfred's pupils suddenly constricted, his heart seeming to stop beating at that moment.
The sharp screech of brakes pierced through the night sky.
A black sedan that couldn't swerve in time slammed hard into Brenda.
With a dull, heavy thud, Brenda was thrown into the air like a kite with its string cut, crashing hard onto the solid asphalt road. She rolled twice before lying completely still.
Blood trickled down from her forehead, a shocking sight.
"Brenda!"
Alfred's eyes were bloodshot as he let out a desperate, anguished cry.
The red roses in his hand fell to the ground, ruthlessly trampled under his feet, their petals crushed.
He rushed toward the middle of the road like a madman, shoving aside the shaken driver, and pulled the blood-covered, completely unconscious Brenda tightly into his arms.
"Brenda, wake up! Don't scare me!" Alfred's hands were covered in blood, his whole body trembling uncontrollably.
His eyes were red, tears streaming down his face. The affection and composure he'd shown Grace moments ago had completely vanished.
He didn't even have time to glance back at Grace. He carried Brenda straight to his sports car, floored the gas pedal, and the car roared like a wild beast as it raced frantically toward the hospital.
All that remained were scattered rose petals on the ground, and Grace, still standing where she was.
The crowd of onlookers grew larger, their whispers endless.
"Oh my God, that's so awful, isn't it?"
"Did you hear? That woman just said to give the man back to her. Is this some kind of wife forcing the mistress to her death scenario?"
"Tsk tsk, that guy's a real jerk too. Just gave her flowers, then ran off with another woman."
Facing the strange looks and nasty speculation from those around her, Grace stood there without the slightest bit of panic. Instead, the corners of her lips curved into an extremely pleased smile.
She looked down at the luxury necklace Alfred had casually tossed on the ground and let out a cold snort.
Brenda had really gone all out with this act, even betting her life on it.
But the effect was immediate. That clingy pest Alfred definitely wouldn't have the mind to bother her again until at least after Brenda was discharged from the hospital.
Grace brushed off the non-existent dust from her skirt, feeling the disgusting sensation that had been weighing on her heart for days completely swept away. She was in a great mood.
Across the street, inside a black Bentley.
Dylan sat in the back seat, having witnessed everything that just happened.
When he saw Brenda rush out and kneel crying, then Alfred carrying the knocked-out Brenda and speeding away, Dylan was slightly stunned at first. Then he let out a low laugh.
Behind his glasses, the gloom that had been building in his deep eyes all afternoon instantly vanished, replaced by clarity and pleasure.
How had he not seen through this little fox's scheme?
This woman was not only ruthless but also clever in a way that made it impossible to look away.
Dylan leaned back against the leather seat, his slender fingers lightly rubbing his watch, unable to suppress the smile at the corners of his lips.
"Mr. Wilson, this..." Logan in the front seat watched in stunned disbelief. The plot had reversed too quickly for his brain to keep up. "Mr. White just ran off? Left Grace alone there to be gawked at?"
"Drive over," Dylan said in a relaxed tone, even with a hint of barely noticeable lightness. "Go pick her up."
Logan immediately followed the order and was about to start the car and turn around when he saw Grace had already turned around decisively.
She ignored the gossip around her, showed no trace of being abandoned, and walked straight to her red sports car parked by the roadside.
She opened the door, got in with a sharp movement, started the engine, and the car smoothly merged into traffic, heading toward the Brown family estate.
"Mr. Wilson, Grace drove off on her own," Logan said, his foot hovering over the gas pedal.
Dylan watched the red car gradually disappear into the distance, the smile in his eyes deepening.
She never needed anyone's sympathy or pity. She was a queen in her own right.
"Let's go, head back."
Hearing this, Logan breathed a sigh of relief. Thinking back to that soap opera-like scene, he couldn't help but click his tongue.
"Mr. Wilson, Grace really played that 'kill with a borrowed knife' move beautifully." Logan kept an eye on the road while commenting, "Used one Facebook post to successfully drive Brenda crazy. Now look, Brenda bet her life on it, scared Mr. White out of his wits. How could he have any mind to pester Grace now? Those two are completely locked together now, absolutely no chance of getting back together."
Logan's words hit right at Dylan's sweet spot.
Dylan leaned back against the leather seat, his long legs casually crossed.
Though he didn't respond, the upturned corners of his lips couldn't be suppressed, and the gloom that had clouded his expression all afternoon completely disappeared.
"You talk too much," Dylan said, glancing at him lightly, though his tone carried no hint of reproach.
Through the rearview mirror, Logan saw his boss's mood shift from cloudy to clear and secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
It seemed Grace wasn't just Starlight Entertainment's savior, but also Mr. Wilson's emotional switch.
At the intersection ahead, the red light came on.
Grace pressed the brake, and the red sports car stopped steadily in front of the crosswalk. She picked up her phone from the console and called Victor.
"Dad, I'm not coming back to the estate tonight." As soon as the call connected, Grace got straight to the point.
"What's wrong? Is there another problem at Starlight Entertainment?" Victor's voice immediately showed concern.
"It's not about the company." Grace looked at the neon lights flashing outside the windshield, her tone carrying some helplessness. "Alfred was like a clingy pest blocking me downstairs at Starlight Entertainment today. Although he was just lured away by Brenda's act, I'm afraid he'll go crazy again in a few days and show up at the Brown family estate. I don't want you to be annoyed by it, so I'm planning to stay at my apartment at Harborview Residences for a while to get some peace and quiet."
Victor snorted coldly on the other end. "If that Alfred guy dares to come, I'll have the bodyguards break his legs! But it's good for you to stay at your place and avoid the drama. It's closer to the company too. Take care of yourself, and if you need anything, just have the butler send it over."
"Got it. Get some rest."
After hanging up, the light turned green.
Harborview Residences was one of South City's top luxury apartment buildings with extremely tight security. Without the owner's authorization, no one could get in. This was exactly what Grace needed right now.
However, she hadn't stayed at this apartment in a long time.
