Fragile Wall

Fragile Wall
Regina's POV

I stared at the phone in shock, my mind reeling with confusion. Vivian's words echoed in my ears, her threat to stay away from Daniel ringing out like a warning bell. But why? I thought back to the reason I had left the country in the first place. Wasn't it to avoid Daniel's potential custody battle over our child?

I had known that if Daniel found out about the child, he would stop at nothing to claim custody. And I knew I would lose. The thought of it had been too terrifying to contemplate, so I had packed up my life and left, determined to protect my child from Daniel's influence.

But now, Vivian was threatening me, telling me to stay away from Daniel. It didn't make sense. Unless... unless Vivian knew something I didn't. Unless there was more to Daniel's story than I had realized.

What was going on? And why was Vivian so determined to keep me away from Daniel?

I couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off. Her tone was laced with a hint of desperation, and her voice trembled with a fear that seemed to seep through the phone lines. I felt a shiver run down my spine as I wondered if something had happened to Daniel.

Why else would Vivian call me, of all people, to demand that I stay away from him? The more I thought about it, the more my mind raced with worst-case scenarios. Had Daniel been in an accident? Was he hurt? The possibilities swirled in my head like a vortex, each one more terrifying than the last.

As I stood there, frozen in fear, a memory flashed through my mind. I remembered the day I had kicked Daniel out, the rain pouring down on him like a relentless curtain of water. He had stood there, unmoving, his eyes fixed on me with a sadness that had pierced my heart. Even now, the memory of that moment made my chest tighten with a pang of regret.

I shook my head, trying to clear the cobwebs of fear that had taken hold. No, I told myself. Daniel was fine. He had to be. But the doubt had already taken root, and I couldn't shake off the feeling that something was terribly wrong.

I knew that I couldn't just erase Daniel from my life. It wasn't that simple. He was the father of my child, the person I had shared so many memories with, and the love of my life. No matter how hard I tried to push him away, I couldn't deny the connection we shared.

My fear wasn't that he would fail to protect me again, but that he would break my heart once more. I had been hurt so deeply by his actions, and I wasn't sure if I could survive another heartbreak.

But the truth was, I was scared to face my feelings. I was scared to admit that I still loved him, that I still wanted to be with him. I was scared that if I let my guard down, I would fall right back into his arms, and I wouldn't be able to escape the pain he might cause me again.

So I had built walls around myself, walls that, I thought, would keep me safe from Daniel's charms. But deep down, I knew that those walls were fragile, and that if Daniel really wanted to, he could break them down with ease.

The thought sent a shiver down my spine, and I knew that I had to be careful. I had to protect myself from Daniel, not just because of what he had done in the past, but because of what he could still do to me in the present.

I quickly dialed Michael's number, my heart racing with anticipation. "Michael, I need you to find something for me," I said, trying to keep my voice steady.

"What is it, Regina?" he asked, his tone professional.

"I need to know if something has happened to Daniel," I replied, my words tumbling out in a rush.

There was a pause on the other end of the line before Michael spoke up. "Regina, I'm afraid I have some bad news. Daniel was involved in a car accident, and he's currently at the hospital."

My heart skipped a beat as I felt a wave of fear wash over me. "What? Oh my god, is he okay?"

"I don't have all the details, but from what I've gathered, the accident was pretty brutal. He was on his way to the airport to catch a flight to see you, and...well, you can see for yourself."

Michael sent me a photo of the tabloid, and I gasped as I saw the mangled wreckage of Daniel's car. My heart felt like it was ripping apart, and fear clouded my mind.

Without wasting another moment, I told Michael to book a plane back to the country immediately. "I need to see him," I said, my voice shaking with urgency. "I need to make sure he's okay."

Michael assured me that he would take care of everything, and I hung up the phone, my mind racing with worst-case scenarios. I felt like I was in a nightmare, and I couldn't wake up. All I could do was hope that Daniel was okay, and that I would make it to his side in time.
