Another Chance
Another Chance
Regina's POV
I traveled back to the country, my heart heavy with worry and guilt. As soon as I arrived, I drove straight to the hospital where Daniel was admitted. The thought of him lying in a hospital bed, injured and in pain, was unbearable.
As I walked through the hospital corridors, I couldn't help but blame myself for the incident. Vivian's words echoed in my mind - "Stay away from Daniel." I had ignored her warning, and now Daniel was paying the price.
I felt a wave of tears washed over me as I thought about the consequences of my actions. What would happen to our child if Daniel didn't make it? Would Ryan ever forgive me for causing the death of his father because of my fear?
I couldn't stop crying since I got the news. The pain I felt was overwhelming, and I couldn't bear the thought of living without Daniel.
"Regina," she said, her voice firm but controlled.
I turned to face Vivian, who looked equally surprised to see me. But her shocked expression quickly turned into a frown, and she hastened towards me, her eyes darting between me and the door to Daniel's ward.
As she approached, she crossed her arms over her chest, her expression stern. "What are you doing here? I told you to stay away from Daniel. Why did you come back?" she demanded.
I felt a surge of defensiveness, but I knew I had no right to be angry. I had made a mistake, and now Daniel was paying the price.
I took a deep breath, trying to explain. "I just heard the news, and I wanted to see him," I said, my voice shaking. I'm sorry, Vivian," I said. "I didn't mean to hurt him. I just... I couldn't stay away."
Vivian scoffed, her eyes flashing with anger. "Haven't you done enough?" she spat. "Why does every woman in his life always cause him pain? First, it was Ivy, who I just caught cheating on him. Red-hand now you...you're the reason he got into an accident and almost lost his life."
Her words cut deep, and I felt a wave of guilt wash over me. I knew I had hurt Daniel, and now Vivian was blaming me for his accident. I didn't know what to say, so I just stood there, tears streaming down my face.
Vivian took a step closer, her eyes blazing with anger as she glared at me. "Stay away from my son," she hissed, her voice low and menacing. "I don't want anyone inflicting pain on him. He's been through enough."
She paused, her gaze piercing mine. "Daniel loved you so much, and this is how you repaid him? By putting him in a hospital bed?"
I felt like my heart was about to explode. I had no idea that Ivy was cheating on Daniel, and the weight of my guilt was crushing me. Since I got the news, I hadn't been able to sleep, and the thought of Daniel lying in a hospital bed, injured and in pain, was eating away at me.
If only I had stayed back in the country, maybe he wouldn't be where he was. The thought haunted me, and I couldn't shake off the feeling that I was responsible for his accident.
I wondered if he would ever forgive me, but right now, I just wanted to see how he was doing. I wanted to know if he was okay, if he was going to make it. I took a step forward, my eyes pleading with Vivian. "Please, can I just see him?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
I had spent the entire six-hour flight thinking about Daniel, replaying every moment we had shared, every conversation, every laugh. And now, as I stood in front of Vivian, I pleaded with her to let me see him.
But Vivian was resolute, her expression unyielding. "Keep your distance, Regina," she said, her voice stern, "My son has suffered enough. He needs someone who will bring him joy, not cause him pain."
I felt a lump form in my throat as I realized that Vivian was right. I had only caused Daniel pain, and I didn't know if I could ever make it right. I wanted to change that, to be the one who brought him joy, but I didn't know if it was too late.
I pleaded with Vivian again, begging her to just let me see him, but she was unmoved. "Wait until he's discharged," she said. "Then he can decide for himself if he wants to see you."
I knew I had no choice but to agree. Vivian was serious about stopping me, and I would rather not cause any more tension. So I nodded, feeling a sense of defeat wash over me. I would have to wait, and hope that Daniel would give me another chance.
