Her Confidence
Her Confidence
Her defense mechanism is not taking her opponents’ welfare into the slightest consideration. She does not hold back. If rage rules over her drunken mind, she might wake up in a bloodbath. But if kindness does take over, she is like an angel walking among humans.
“Dandelion,” she replied as she accepted his hand for a shake to formalize their introduction to each other. She does not give her real name to anyone. She just acknowledges that she is glad to meet the other person, not even giving any name to call her. They usually came to her first, which clearly meant they knew her already. She just wonders what they need her services for.
She had been asked to bring a notorious Mafia leader down using a sniper rifle. A drug dealer. She was also hired to be a stand-in girlfriend for a businessman. A bounty hunter just finds the target and reports it to her client. A babysitter for the bull-headed son of a billionaire. She can also be a company representative if her clients ask her to be. She had been doing a lot of things.
A spy. A planner.
And she sometimes does modeling as well.
In every job, she makes sure her looks are not as usual. She always makes a distinctive feature that would lead people to look at her as another person to who she really is. Cosmetics do most of the trick, but there are times when she uses silicone masks and voice synthesizers. She is the real her within the bed, but when she gets out of it, she won’t be recognized even by the very same person she just slept with.
There are many reasons to explain such behavior. She does so when she does not want anyone to remember her. But if she is comfortable with the person, she reveals herself. That was before she was betrayed. Now, she has learned from such stupidity. Never trust anyone. She told herself always to remember. These people come to her for something. If she chooses to give them what they want, she should make sure to get something from it in return. Money or whatever, she is willing to make a deal.
She gives, she receives. It’s the rule. She serves. She gets paid.
If she is not getting anything she wants back, she doesn’t have to continue such a deal, or she will lose. Not very wise and one hundred percent stupidity!
“Would you like to tell me what service you need while I think what I want for compensation, Mister Woods?” Scarlett smirked at him.
“Please call me Vince. You make me feel like my old man,” Vince lowly laughed. “He is called that way, Mister Woods. If you call me that way, too, I might get confused if you are addressing him or me,” he added, gulping another shot of his drink.
“Vince, then,” she shrugged her shoulders as she agreed.
“Can we talk somewhere more private?” Vince asked. He was cautious about asking as the lady might feel awkward and turn his suggestion down. But there is no way to discuss his deal proposal with her in this open place in a bar. Not only is it a noisy place, but it also does not seem fit to discuss such a sensitive matter in public.
"As long as there is something for me to drink, I don't mind," she had been observing her surroundings, and she could see a few who had been looking at them with irk. She is not aware of what reasons, but she isn't bothered either. It's not new. Remembering what happened to her with those five losers earlier today, she is not surprised if they have asked for backup to retaliate. Fortunately for them, she is busy with Vince Woods tonight. She needs to get this man out of her before these a-holes decide to attack. Or maybe they are waiting until she is too drunk to defend herself. She shook her head and smiled as she chugged the last drink from her glass. "Your place or mine?" she casually asked.
Vince was caught off guard. He did not expect her to ask such an ambiguous question. He was at a loss for words, so that his mouth opened and shut without words coming out of it. He looked so funny to Scarlett that she winked at him and said, "Mine then, let's go before I change my mind," and then she got up. She fixed her clothes facing towards the direction of the group of men, whom she noticed in the reflections from the mirrors in the bar behind the bartender, who had been ferociously stabbing gazes at her back. Hers or Vince's, she cannot be sure just yet. Still, they bring bad news to her. They are not friends, that is for sure.
They both had a few shots, and maybe more, so driving would never be a wise idea. Scarlett led the way as she suggested they were going to her place. She was thinking about taking a cab and changing rides a few times to lose whoever might be following them along the way. She was sure those men at the bar wouldn't stay idle for a very long time. She needs to get rid of them or lose them so she can focus on her special client. Special because she is not going to make a deal like she usually does.
Vince was obediently walking along with her. Not a word of protest or suggestion. He was passively following her every lead. Not even sure where she was taking him, but it did not bother him. He needed her help. Agreeing to his request to find another place to talk about the details of his matter was already a positive sign for him to rejoice that his deal would push through.
But before they could get to the taxi station, a few men blocked their way. Scarlett wanted to pat her own shoulder, thinking her thoughts were correct. These guys won't just watch from afar. Here they come!
