Chapter 29 - Returning to University

Chapter 29 - Returning to University
The sun cast golden rays across the sprawling campus of Hampton University as students bustled through the corridors, laughter and chatter filling the air. After an unexpected break from her studies, Mia stood at the entrance, taking in the familiar sight before her. The towering buildings, the neatly maintained gardens, and the occasional sight of professors lost in conversation brought back a sense of nostalgia. She was finally back.

Clutching the strap of her handbag tightly, Mia took a deep breath and stepped forward. She had missed this place-her lectures, her friends, even the stress of assignments and deadlines. But more than anything, she had missed feeling like herself. The past few weeks had been turbulent, filled with moments of uncertainty and emotional upheaval. The doctor's words still rang in her ears: She should not be reminded of her past.
Rudraksh had been more protective than ever, ensuring she rested well before even considering returning. And now, as she walked through the familiar corridors, she couldn't help but feel both excited and nervous.

"Mia!"

A delighted voice interrupted her thoughts. Before she could react, Ahana and Vivaan rushed towards her, wrapping her in a tight embrace.
"You're finally back!" Ahana beamed, pulling away to examine her. "We missed you so much."
Mia smiled warmly. "I missed you both too."
Vivaan placed a hand on her shoulder. "How are you feeling now? Everything okay?"
She nodded. "Much better. I just needed some time."

Ahana linked her arm with Mia's. "Come on, let's go. We have so much to catch up on!"
The three of them walked towards their usual spot in the cafeteria. As they settled down, Ahana and Vivaan filled Mia in on everything she had missed-new professors, inside jokes, and the latest gossip on campus.
Just as Mia was about to take a sip of her coffee, a familiar voice interrupted them.

"So, the CEO finally decided to grace us with her presence?"
Mia turned to see Aarav smirking at her, arms crossed over his chest. Despite his teasing tone, she could see the relief in his eyes.
She rolled her eyes playfully. "Oh, please. You act like I was gone for years."
He shrugged. "It felt like it. Rudraksh barely let us visit you. He's been guarding you like a hawk."

Mia's lips curled into a soft smile at the mention of Rudraksh. "He's just worried. That's all."
Ahana sighed dramatically. "Honestly, we were beginning to wonder if you'd ever come back. But now that you're here, let's celebrate."
Vivaan raised an eyebrow. "Celebrate how?"
A mischievous glint appeared in Ahana's eyes. "A small party tonight. Just the four of us."
Mia hesitated for a moment. She had only just returned, and she wasn't sure if she was ready for a full-fledged outing. But looking at the hopeful faces of her friends, she realized how much she had missed these moments.
"Alright," she said, smiling. "Let's do it."

Later that evening, Mia found herself sitting in the rooftop lounge of a nearby café, surrounded by her closest friends. The city lights twinkled below them as laughter filled the air. It was comforting-being here, with them, without the weight of the past pressing down on her.
"So," Aarav began, leaning forward. "Are you really okay? I mean, not just physically. Mentally too?"
Mia glanced down at her drink before meeting his gaze. "I won't lie, Aarav. It's been difficult. There are moments where I feel... lost. But I'm trying. And having you all around makes it easier."

Ahana reached for Mia's hand, squeezing it gently. "We're always here for you."
Vivaan nodded in agreement. "No matter what."
Aarav smirked. "Well, as much as I love this emotional moment, I think we should toast to Mia's return."
They all raised their glasses, clinking them together in celebration.

"To new beginnings," Mia whispered, a newfound determination settling in her heart.
As the night continued, the four of them reminisced about their past adventures, their dreams for the future, and the bond that held them together. Mia realized that while the journey ahead might not be easy, she wasn't alone. With Rudraksh by her side and her friends supporting her, she was ready to face whatever came next.
And for the first time in weeks, she felt truly at peace.

The week had passed in a blur, with Mia slowly settling back into her routine at Hampton University. Life had resumed its normal pace, but there was a buzz in the air-Mia's birthday was just around the corner, and everyone was planning something grand for her.
Rudraksh had taken charge of the preparations, ensuring that the day would be special in every possible way. He knew that this birthday meant more than just a celebration; it symbolized her resilience, her strength, and the journey she had been through.
The Midnight Surprise

As the clock struck midnight, Mia was sitting in her room, reading a book, unaware of what was about to unfold. Suddenly, the lights went off, plunging the room into darkness. Before she could react, the door burst open, and in came Vivaan, Ahana, and Vaani, holding a cake with candles flickering in the dim light.
"Happy Birthday, Mia!" they chorused, their faces beaming with excitement.
Mia's eyes widened in surprise, and a warm smile spread across her face. "You guys! This is such a surprise!"
Vivaan smirked. "You really thought we'd let your birthday begin without a proper welcome?"
Ahana placed the cake on the table while Vaani held Mia's hand. "Make a wish before you blow the candles."
Mia closed her eyes for a moment, wishing for nothing but happiness and love in her life. Then, with a deep breath, she blew out the candles, and the room erupted in cheers.

Just as she was about to cut the cake, the door opened again, and Rudraksh walked in. His presence alone made her heart skip a beat. He carried a small box in his hand and an unreadable expression on his face.
"Happy Birthday, Mia," he said softly, his eyes locking onto hers.
Mia felt a rush of emotions as she took the knife and cut the cake, feeding small pieces to everyone. When it was Rudraksh's turn, he took a bite, holding her fingers just a moment longer than necessary, making her cheeks flush.

"I have something for you," he said, handing her the small box.
Curious, Mia unwrapped it and found a delicate silver bracelet with tiny charms-a book, a stethoscope, and a little airplane. It was a perfect representation of her life-her love for books, her journey as a doctor, and the dreams she wanted to chase.
"This is beautiful, Rudraksh," she whispered, touched by the thoughtfulness of the gift.
"I'm glad you like it," he replied, his voice warm.

The night continued with laughter, playful banter, and an impromptu pillow fight that left everyone breathless. By the time they all went to sleep, Mia felt an overwhelming sense of love and gratitude.
A Day Filled with Surprises
The next morning, Mia woke up to the sound of her phone buzzing with messages and calls from family and friends. As she got out of bed, she found a note on her bedside table.

Be ready by 10 AM. Wear something nice. A surprise awaits you. - R
Mia's heart fluttered. What was he planning?
After getting dressed in a soft peach dress, she stepped out to find Rudraksh waiting outside her dorm. He was dressed in a crisp black shirt and jeans, looking effortlessly handsome.
"Ready for your special day?" he asked, offering his hand.
She took it without hesitation. "Where are we going?"
"You'll see."

They drove to a beautiful lakeside location where a picnic setup awaited them. A soft blanket was spread out, adorned with an assortment of food, fresh flowers, and fairy lights strung across nearby trees.
"Wow, this is... breathtaking," Mia said, awed.
Rudraksh smirked. "Only the best for the birthday girl."
They spent hours talking, eating, and enjoying each other's company. Mia felt more relaxed than she had in a long time, savoring every moment. As the sun began to set, Rudraksh took her hand and led her closer to the water.
"There's one more thing," he said, his voice serious.

Mia looked up at him, curious.
He pulled out a small notebook and handed it to her. "These are all the things you've ever wanted to do but never got the chance to. And I promise you, we'll do every single one of them together."
Mia felt a lump in her throat as she flipped through the pages, seeing things she had mentioned in passing-traveling to Switzerland, learning to dance, adopting a pet.
"You remembered all of this?" she asked, overwhelmed.
"I remember everything about you, Mia."
Her heart melted at his words.

The Grand Celebration
Later that evening, they arrived at the Sekhawat mansion, where a grand party awaited her. The entire family was present, along with friends and colleagues. The decorations were stunning, with twinkling lights, elegant drapes, and a magnificent cake in the center.
Mia was showered with love, gifts, and endless wishes. Chirag and Tusha gave her a personalized journal, while Vaani gifted her a handmade scrapbook of their college memories. Vivaan and Ahana, as usual, gave her a quirky yet thoughtful present-a set of matching sweatshirts for her and Rudraksh that read Queen and King.

When it was time for the toast, Rudraksh stood up, raising his glass. "Mia, you are the strongest, most incredible person I have ever known. This year has been a rollercoaster, but through it all, you've shown resilience and grace. I feel honored to be a part of your life. So, here's to you-to love, happiness, and an amazing future ahead."

Mia blinked back tears as everyone cheered. The night ended with dancing, laughter, and a warmth that filled her heart.
As she lay in bed that night, replaying the day's events, she realized something-this had been the best birthday of her life. Not because of the grand gestures or the gifts, but because of the love that surrounded her. And most of all, because of him.
Little did she know, this was just the beginning of something even more beautiful.
