Chapter 57 "Joseph, What are you doing!"
"What?"
Harper raised her head in shock, not expecting him to say that.
Brian smiled and said, "I'm your brother and your family. Since I'm back, it's appropriate for me to take care of you."
Unnoticed by both, Joseph stood at the corner, listening to their conversation word for word.
Looking at her hesitation, Brian continued, "It's okay. Take your time to think about it. We see each other every day at the company anyway. Just let me know when you've made up your mind. I'll help you move."
"Okay." Harper nodded happily.
However, Joseph felt that the scene before him was too harmonious, almost painfully so. If he stayed any longer, he might not resist disrupting it.
With a cold gaze, he looked at Harper for a moment and then turned and left.
Meanwhile, Olivia searched out of the venue but didn't spot Joseph. She only saw Harper and Brian chatting in the backyard. They seemed to get along well.
Harper and Brian talked late into the night. Brian offered to drive Harper home, but she refused.
Since she had decided to keep her marriage a secret from him, she couldn't let Brian take her home. If she happened to run into Joseph, it would be hard to explain.
As she sat in the ride-hailing car, Harper looked at the new friend added to her contacts and couldn't help but smile.
Brian was finally back, and she wasn't alone anymore.
Would she move in with him?
After all, she would need to find a new place after divorcing Joseph tomorrow.
Lost in thought, Harper gazed out of the window.
Upon returning home, Harper opened the door only to see the living room in darkness.
Assuming that Joseph and Henry had other arrangements after the wedding, she didn't think much of it.
After taking off her shoes, she turned on the lights in the living room and walked in humming softly.
As she turned her head, she saw a figure sitting on the couch, which startled her. "Joseph? You scared me!"
She put down her bag and patted her chest in relief. "You're back. Why were you sitting alone in the dark without turning on the lights?"
Joseph unbuttoned two buttons of his shirt inside his suit, revealing his straight collarbones.
Sitting expressionless on the couch, he appeared different from his usual neat self, exuding a hint of laziness and wildness. "Why are you back so late?"
Harper, oblivious to his tone, replied with a cheerful expression, "Just chatting with Brian."
She sat down on the couch as well, sighing to herself. "I never expected to meet him at Dad and Ms. Miller's wedding, and he's our company's boss. It's like a dream come true."
Joseph, watching Harper's ecstatic expression, felt even more angry. Indeed, as soon as Brian returned, she became a different person, who was so happy now. When she was with him, she had never shown such a genuine smile.
Ignoring his expression, Harper continued to share enthusiastically. "It's so coincidental. The Lucas Group happens to have a collaboration with our company, so Dad sent him an invitation. Otherwise, he wouldn't have attended today's wedding. Then I don't know when we'll meet."
After a while, Harper noticed that Joseph had been silent the whole time and didn't look quite right.
She asked, "What's wrong with you?"
Joseph, avoiding the question, said, "It's indeed a coincidence. Did he not mention anything else to you?"
"What else?" Harper, noticing Joseph's gaze, instinctively recoiled.
"Like asking you to move in with him." Joseph inched closer to Harper. His eyes exuded a dangerous vibe she couldn't understand.
"He asked it." Harper swallowed, avoiding his eyes. "But I'm still thinking about it."
"Thinking about it?" Joseph sneered, "I guess you can't wait."
As soon as Brian returned, she expected to be by his side on her own, even didn't need him to suggest it. She didn't care about anything else.
Thinking about this, Joseph felt uncomfortable and couldn't bear it. Harper, provoked by his attitude, retorted, "So what if I can't wait? He's my brother! Shouldn't I move in with him?"
"Brother? What kind of brother?" Joseph, hands on the couch, firmly held Harper down. He mocked, "Can a brother do this to you?"
Harper placed her hands on his chest, finding him utterly unreasonable. She felt both embarrassed and annoyed. "You're talking nonsense!"
"Am I?" Joseph's eyes showed traces of anger. His frustration reached its peak. He held Harper's chin, forcing her to look at him. "Did I hit a nerve, making you so defensive?"
Harper pushed him with all her might, but he remained unmoved. "Joseph, you're such a jerk!"
Joseph sneered, "Today, I'll show you what a jerk is!"
