Chapter 267 I'll Wait for You Downstairs
Chapter 267 I'll Wait for You Downstairs
Alice suddenly raised her voice, and that caught everyone in the room off guard, making them all turn to look at her.
Evelyn hadn't expected that the person standing up for her right now would be Alice.
She thought Alice really wasn't going to care about her anymore.
"Alice..." All the hurt she'd been holding back came flooding out in that moment. Evelyn's eyes turned red and filled with tears. "I really didn't expect..."
Alice cut her off. She turned to the servants nearby and gave them an order. "Take her upstairs first. Let her calm down."
Evelyn understood now wasn't the time for her to speak. She looked at Alice with gratitude in her eyes, then followed the servants upstairs.
Robert tried to stop her, but those people completely ignored his orders. All he could do was shout threats at Evelyn's retreating figure. "If you walk away now, I will divorce you."
Evelyn's steps paused for a moment, but she didn't turn around. Instead, she picked up her pace going upstairs.
Stella looked obviously guilty seeing Alice there. She tried hard to suppress the resentment in her eyes.
"Alice, when did you get back? Why didn't you tell me, your sister, ahead of time? I could have gone to the door to welcome you."
"I arrived when you were 'telling on people.' And I already told you, I'm not your sister. You just mentioned your birth mother. Don't you always want to see her? I'll take you to see her tonight."
Stella was so scared she instinctively took a step back.
She said those things earlier because she was afraid that so-called birth mother would sell her out, so she wanted to use this excuse to get that person out first. But now Alice was personally taking her to see that woman, and she had no idea what Alice was planning to do to her.
She bit her lower lip, deliberately putting on a pitiful look. "Forget it. You were wronged before, and she went too far. Even though I have no feelings for her, she's still my birth mother. I'm willing to apologize to you on her behalf."
"Shut up!"
Alice found her words nothing but noisy and fake.
Stella's eyes immediately turned red, but she didn't dare say another word.
Robert felt his control over this household being torn apart bit by bit. He clenched his jaw.
"Alice, you come back and turn the whole house upside down. What exactly do you want?"
"Go to my study." Alice glanced at him, giving him a pointed look, then turned and headed upstairs, not caring whether he'd follow.
Robert wanted nothing more than to completely erase Alice from his world right now. But he knew that the real power was almost all in her hands now. He could only force his anger down.
Before long, a plan slowly formed in his mind. Even though Alice had the Davis family backing her now, the Reyes family wasn't weaker than the Davis family.
If he could get the head of the Reyes family on his side, maybe he'd have a chance to push Alice out.
He reminded himself to be patient a bit longer. Once the plan succeeded, everything would turn around. After he got his emotions under control and walked into the study, just as he was about to sit down, Alice's voice came through with obvious authority. "Who told you to sit down?"
Robert looked at this study that used to be his, now seemingly completely under Alice's control. He almost exploded on the spot.
But thinking of the plan he'd just worked out in his head, he still forced down his anger. The vein at his temple twitched. "What exactly do you want?"
"I think you should retire. How about holding a press conference in a few days to officially step back?"
"You... what did you say!" Robert was still in the prime of his career. He absolutely couldn't accept handing over his power and position to Alice.
A slight smile appeared at the corner of Alice's mouth. "You think I'm discussing this with you? I'm just informing you. Tomorrow at nine, I'll send someone to pick you up."
"Ridiculous! Why should I give up my position to you? Alice, don't go too far."
"I'm arranging a more relaxed life for you. After you step back, won't you have more time to spend with those mistresses of yours? I heard several of your mistresses are already pregnant with your sons."
Alice's tone carried an icy threat. She placed a prepared speech on the desk.
"This is the public statement prepared for you tomorrow. Take it home tonight and get familiar with it."
Robert picked it up and quickly scanned it. His face immediately darkened. The document said he was incompetent, unable to lead the company to continued growth, and had almost brought the company to bankruptcy, so he decided to voluntarily step down and give his position to Alice.
He immediately tore those two pages into pieces.
"You just got your footing at some small company, and you think those shareholders who've been with the Hall family for years will willingly accept you? Get real. You have no idea what you're playing with."
"That's my business. Since you tore up those two pages, it means you've already memorized what was on them. Remember, tomorrow morning at nine, my people will come get you. If you don't show up, I'll make sure you never have a chance to leave behind any descendants."
Alice's voice wasn't loud, but every word she spoke carried heavy weight.
Robert's face kept twitching with anger. "Very good! How dare you."
"You can wait and see if I dare."
Alice just gave him a cool glance. "I've said what I needed to say. Now, you can get lost."
Robert was practically grinding his teeth to dust.
"How impressive. I called you back to help me share the burden, not to drag me down."
Alice watched him looking like he was about to lose his mind, and the corner of her mouth lifted slightly. "It's too late for regrets now."
Robert suddenly stood up and walked out, knocking over a chair beside him as he left.
Alice watched his retreating figure. Sidney, who had been standing at the door, walked in.
"Aren't you worried this old fox will pull some dirty tricks?"
"If he doesn't pull some tricks, he wouldn't be himself. Let him struggle."
Alice's tone was casual. She knew very well that if he really had that ability, the Hall family wouldn't have fallen to its current state.
Sidney couldn't help but laugh. "True. You just do what you need to do, I'll help you. If that's not enough, you still have Michael, and the Graham family and the Collins family."
Alice thought about those two families' attitudes toward her, and her brow furrowed. "Those two families aren't people I can just call on whenever I want."
Sidney's expression became more serious. "If it really comes to that, I'll personally go ask them."
Alice had heard him say this more than once. She knew Sidney cared a lot about his pride, but for her sake, he was willing to put aside his dignity and ask those two people.
"No need, because things won't get to that point. Sidney, thank you. Come with me to find Stella?"
"Leave Stella to me. I'll handle it. As for you, you'd better go rest right now. Oh, and Michael just sent me a message asking where you are."
Sidney's eyes carried a hint of amusement. "Alice, you forgot about him."
Only then did Alice remember that she'd promised to either go find him after work or let him come pick her up. But so much had happened today that she'd completely forgotten about it.
She coughed lightly. "My phone died. I'll go find him now."
Sidney drew out a long "Oh." "You know what? You sound exactly like those scumbags. First trick someone into feelings, then into bed, then don't reply to messages, and finally make up some excuse about your phone dying."
Alice heard that he was enjoying the show. She took out her phone from her bag and held it up, as if to prove herself. "It really died."
Sidney waved his hand. "Good luck to you."
Alice plugged in her phone to charge. After turning it on, she immediately saw over ten missed calls and messages from Michael.
Michael: [So that's it? We sleep together and you act like I don't exist? Alice, get down here. I'm outside your place.]
