Chapter 268 Lust

Chapter 268 Lust

Alice hurried to the window, pulled back the curtain, and looked down.

A car was parked under the dim streetlight below.

Michael was casually leaning against the car door. He lowered his head to light a cigarette, and the flame flickered across half his face. Soon the flame went out, leaving only a red glow in the darkness.

He seemed to sense someone watching him. He looked up, his gaze lifting toward Alice's direction.

Alice's eyes met his, and she froze for a moment.

Michael raised his hand in a casual wave, then lifted his phone.

Alice looked down at her own phone. The screen showed just a few words: [Come down].

She wrapped her coat tightly around herself, held onto the railing, and walked down step by step.

When the door opened, she immediately saw the man standing in the night breeze. She walked a few steps closer. "Aren't you cold?"

"You have no conscience. I've been waiting downstairs for a long time." After finishing his own business, Michael had come straight to her building. He'd sent messages and made calls, but got no response. At first he thought Alice was in a meeting, so he didn't want to disturb her. But when the lights in the entire building went out and it was late at night, he realized something was wrong.

Alice felt a bit embarrassed. She raised her hand to touch her nose. "Sorry, my phone died."

Michael's embrace carried a slight chill. He pulled her into his arms in one motion and let out a low breath, as if finally relieved. "Don't move. Let me hold you for a bit."

Alice slowly raised her hands and hugged him back. "Michael."

She felt obvious guilt in her heart. She thought about how much he'd done for her, yet she'd forgotten their plans and left him alone outside. She softened. "How about you come upstairs? It's too late now. It's not safe for you to go back."

Michael seemed to have been waiting for exactly those words. He barely paused. "Sure."

Hearing him answer so quickly, Alice had a vague feeling something wasn't quite right.

But the words were already out. She couldn't take them back now.

Michael lowered his eyes. His cold fingertips brushed across her cheek. "Alice, are you having second thoughts?"

That hurt expression on his face pushed back down the hesitation that had just surfaced.

"Let's go. I'll find you a guest room."

Michael followed behind her, carrying himself with the air of someone completely at home.

The other servants saw Michael following Alice and each had their own speculations.

Alice noticed his intentions. She turned to instruct the servants, "Please tidy up the guest room, change to a new set of bedding, and do a full cleaning."

Then she looked at Michael. "Michael, I'll have to ask you to wait here for a bit. I'm going up to take a shower."

Though Michael didn't want to sleep in the guest room, he knew that now that he'd gotten inside, he'd always have a chance to move up another step.

He sat on the sofa, his gaze slowly sweeping over everyone present.

The butler Gabriel felt that scrutinizing look and became even more certain he'd backed the right person.

He knew clearly that only by working for Alice would he have a chance to build connections with the Davis family, which he could never reach otherwise.

Thinking of Alice having such backing, he couldn't help weighing in his mind that his own status would rise along with hers.

The servants worked quickly. In no time they had the room ready. "Mr. Davis, the room is ready."

Michael closed the newspaper in his hands. "Thanks."

He dropped that line and headed straight upstairs.

One of the servants instinctively wanted to remind him, "The guest room is..."

Before he could finish, Gabriel reached out to stop him. "We don't need to worry about this."

Michael used his actions to make sure everyone remembered him.

He walked into Alice's master bedroom as if returning to his own home. The sound of running water came continuously from the bathroom.

He sat on the edge of the bed. The entire room carried Alice's familiar scent, which relaxed him.

He casually picked up the documents on the nightstand. Seeing that three of the seven people the company had sent had already chosen to resign, the smile on his face gradually faded, turning into complete coldness.

The sound of water in the bathroom slowly stopped, replaced by the sound of a hair dryer.

Soon after, Alice came out of the bathroom wearing pajamas.

When she saw clearly there was someone on the bed, she jumped. "Michael, what are you doing here?"

Michael immediately stood up and took the hair dryer from her hands. "Sit down. Let me do it."

Alice was pressed to sit in front of the vanity. "Is the room downstairs ready?"

"Not yet." Michael lied without batting an eye. His fingertips passed through her still-damp hair, and the warm air quickly dried the ends.

Michael looked at her face in the mirror. He slowly moved closer, his hand sliding across the back of her neck, reaching forward.

Alice's somewhat drowsy mind instantly cleared. She pressed down on his hand. "Michael, what are you trying to do?"

Michael's breath fell on her ear. He stared at her rounded earlobe, lowered his head and gently bit it.

Alice's whole body shivered. Just as she was about to stand up, Michael picked her up. In just a few steps, she was pressed onto the soft bed.

The next second, he covered her body with his.

He pulled open her pajamas. His lips traced a path down her neck, across her collarbone.

Alice pressed her hands against his chest. Her face quickly flushed, and her breathing became unstable. "Don't... Michael, don't do this..."

Michael lifted his head. His eyes were full of desire. With one hand he pulled open his collar, his tie thrown to the floor. He unbuttoned his shirt, revealing his firm chest.

Alice's throat tightened. She quickly looked away.

"We can't—we don't have protection. Michael, next time..." Her last bit of reason made her push him away.

Michael pulled out a box from his pocket. "I came prepared."

Alice's eyes widened. "When did you prepare these?"

"A long time ago." Michael lowered his head, one burning kiss after another falling on her body.

Alice let out a sound she couldn't suppress. She gripped the sheets, her eyes becoming hazy, her breathing quick and chaotic. "What do you mean a long time ago?"

Michael chuckled softly. His lips pressed against her ear. "Every time I go shopping, I think about when I'll finally get to use them with you."

With every line he murmured, he thrust into her a little harder.

Alice felt that before long, her body had completely gone soft. Her arms weakly hooked around his neck. "My leg hasn't fully healed yet."

"Don't worry, I'll be careful." Michael grabbed her leg gently, mindful of her injury as he moved.

Alice's body trembled. Her hands grabbed his back.
Michael's gaze grew even more intense. The words slipped out of him before he could stop them, thick with suggestion. "How about we try a different place next time? Alice… come to my study with me."

"No… don't…" Alice moaned, no longer able to string her words together. She let herself fall with him into a spiral of uncontrollable desire.
