Chapter 15

Larry and Rebecca walked out of the elevator. They walked through the lobby and out the door. Joe pulled up in Larry's car. Larry went over and opened the passenger's door for Rebecca. She got in and he closed the door. He walked around, thanked Joe and got in. He pulled out. "I thought that if you wanted, and you can say no, I could buy you a camera and you could take pictures of my hotel for advertisement purposes. I have been told that I need to update our website and flyers."

"So, you're giving me a job?"

"Yes if you want."

"Yes. I'll do it."

"Great. I'll make it official when we get back."

"All right," Rebecca said.

"I thought it might keep your mind off of your accident too."

"Considering that is all I can think about lately."

"I know." Larry said as he reached over and took her hand. "You survived, that is all that matters."

"I guess, but there is so many missing pieces."

"You just have to be positive that they will be found and put into place."

"What if I never get my memory fully back?"

"You need to stop thinking that way." Larry said as he stopped at a stop light. "We will make new memories, too."

"I know. I just want to remember what I did in my life before this happened. I know what's on paper, but what about what isn't documented."

"You have to have faith. Dr. Rogers said it could take a while. It has only been a week, but if it will make you feel better, we can get another scan done to see how your brain is healing."

"I don't think I need to have another scan. He said to have patience unless I have headaches or other problems."

"It doesn't hurt just to compare."

"I can wait, I guess."

"All right. Let me know if you change your mind. It's just a phone call away," Larry said.

They pulled into the mall parking lot. He found a close parking spot and shut off the car. "I'm warning you ahead of time, we might be watched."

"Of course. There's cameras everywhere."

"Yes, but they know who I am. We might be approached or even followed by security."

"Well, thanks for the heads up."

"I didn't want you to get scared if they started following us."

"All right."

Larry opened his door. He got out and walked around to the other side. He opened the door and took Rebecca's hand. He helped her out. He held her hand and they walked into the mall. They started walking and looking in the windows. They walked through the mall for a while before Larry noticed a security guard following them.

"Does it ever bother you?"

"What? Feeling someone following? It kind of makes me feel like I'm a thief or something. That's one reason why I do most of my shopping online or send someone else to get what I need."

"Are they afraid someone is going to kill you or something?"

"They just want to make sure nobody bothers me." Larry said then led her into a shoe store. They walked down to his shoe section and started looking. He pulled a pair out and sat down. He tried them on. "How do these look?"

"They look fine."

"Just fine?"

"Yeah. Try these." Rebecca said as she handed him another pair. "They look more your style."

Larry took off the first pair and put on the second. "They're very comfortable."

"And they look good."

"Great, I'll get them." Larry said as he took them off. He put them in the box. He got up and put the first pair on the shelf.

A woman came up to them. "Can I help you find anything?"

Larry turned around. "No, we're doing fine on our own but thank you."

"If you need anything, let me know."

"I will." Larry turned back to Rebecca. "How about you?" He asked. "I'm sure you could use a couple pairs of shoes." Larry put his old shoes on.

"I'm fine with these that you got me."

"Nonsense." Larry picked up his shoes and led her to the women's section. "Come on, let's have some fun," Larry said. "You only live once, you know."

"I know, but I don't need a bunch of shoes. I only had a couple at my apartment.

Larry leaned closer to Rebecca. He put his arm around her and pulled her close. He kissed her softly. "Let me spoil you. Let me buy you things." He said then kissed her again.

"All right," Rebecca said. "You win, but you may regret it later."

"Never." Larry said then kissed her again. He let her go and they started looking at shoes.

They left the store with three pairs of shoes. They walked down the hall to a camera shop. They went inside and started looking.

The cashier walked up to them. "What can I help you find?"

"What is the best camera you have?" Larry asked.

The man pulled out a camera. "This is one of a finest." The man started explaining the features.

Rebecca walked away and looked at the display. "I like this one." She pointed to one.

"Yes, it's one of our popular models."

"I want it," Rebecca said. "And the lenses." She looked at Larry.

"Of course." He smiled at her. "You'll also need a bag to carry it plus extra batteries and memory cards.

"Of course, sir." The man said.

Larry walked over to Rebecca. "Are you sure that's the one you want?" He asked as he put his arm around her waist.

"Yes," she said. "Don't ask me why."

"All right." He said then kissed her. He turned to the man. "We will take it and everything that goes with it."

"Yes sir." The man said. He started pulling boxes from under the counter.

Larry pulled Rebecca close. He kissed her gently. "What do you want to look at now?"

"I don't know."

"We can just look around, then."

"I can't think of anything I need."

"This isn't about needing anything. This is all about having fun," Larry said. "It's about enjoying each other."

"I guess we'll see what we find then."

"I want to spoil you, Rebecca and you are making it hard to do that if you're not willing to have fun while I'm doing that."

"I guess I am not use to being spoiled," she said. She looked over at the security guard by the door. "He makes me nervous."

Larry looked over at the guard. "I'll take care of it." He said then let her go. He walked over to the guard. Rebecca watched as he talked to the guard. After a few moments, the guard walked away and Larry joined Rebecca. "See, it's taken care of."

"So, he won't be following us?"

"No," Larry said. He pulled out his wallet and handed his credit card to the cashier. "Let's go upstairs. They have great clothing shops."

"All right."

They had lunch and went clothes shopping. They bought a lot of stuff. Security guards escorted them out to the car. They helped them load everything into the trunk. Larry thanked them and opened the door for Rebecca. She got in the car. He hurried over to the other side and got in. "I knew you could enjoy yourself if you wanted to."

"Yes, it was fun."

Larry's phone rang. He pulled it out and looked at the display. "It's my father."

"There's a mood killer."

"I'm surprised he waited this long." Larry said then answered his phone. "Yes, Dad," he said. "Yes, I'm back. I got in yesterday," he said. "What is it?" He listened. "Because I wanted to see what it was about." He waited. "I haven't looked that far into it. Why? What is it?" Larry asked then got out of the car.

Rebecca sat in the car and watched Larry talk on the phone. She could tell he was yelling and getting angry. He hung up and got is the car. Rebecca looked over at him. "I guess he is mad."

"Do you mind if we go to the office?"

"I don't mind. I would like to see where you work."

"You can take your camera stuff in and set it up. Who knows how long my father will keep me there?"

"All right. That's fine," Rebecca said.

"That man picks the worst time to do things."

Rebecca reached over and put her hand on Larry's thigh. She leaned over to him. "Hey, don't let him ruin our good mood fun. We'll go do what you need to do, then we'll continue our fun." She said then kissed him. "I know he found out about the cannery. And I know you are going to try to set it right." She kissed him again. "And I know you want to do it for my family and I appreciate it."

"You know a lot, don't you?"

"Yes, I do," Rebecca said. She settled back in her seat and put her seatbelt on.

Larry started the car. He backed out of the parking spot then pulled away.
