Chapter 46
Chapter 46
"What did you tell them?"
Jesse, looking frail, replied, "I didn't say anything. I told the cops I did it all."
The big guy stared at Jesse, already understanding that he had spilled everything.
He couldn't be left alive.
The big guy's eyes turned cold.
"You better have."
Just when Jesse thought they were going to leave, the big guy suddenly turned around.
He punched Jesse hard in the stomach.
Agonizing pain!
The big guy stepped forward, covering Jesse's mouth to muffle his screams.
Jesse's eyes filled with terror, and he made muffled sounds of resistance.
One of the henchmen quickly approached with a toothbrush.
The big guy took the toothbrush, snapped it in half with one hand, and looked at Jesse coldly. "Don't blame me."
He then stabbed the broken toothbrush into Jesse's neck.
Blood spurted out.
Jesse's body convulsed, his eyes wide open.
The big guy tossed Jesse to the ground with a look of disgust.
Blood quickly pooled around Jesse's neck.
He died with his eyes open.
The guards outside had no idea what had happened inside.
By the time they returned the prisoners to their cells, they found Jesse already dead.
The cell reeked of blood.
As for the big guy who killed Jesse, they pinned it on a death row inmate, making him take the fall for everything.
When the news of Jesse's death reached Elaine and Travis, it was already an hour later.
They rushed to the prison.
What awaited them was Jesse's corpse.
Jesse's body had been moved to the morgue.
Travis's face was grim. They had acted so quickly.
Elaine pulled back the sheet, revealing a gaping wound in Jesse's neck.
The blood had drained, his pupils were contracted, and his eyes were wide open.
Elaine straightened up. "Protect Jesse's parents."
"Jesse's dead. Will they still go after his parents?" Travis's face was dark.
"What do you think?"
"Only when they're all dead will this be truly over."
Elaine's voice was devoid of emotion, as if human life meant nothing to her.
Travis immediately made a call, and officers rushed to Jesse's parents' home.
But it was too late.
Kian and the others saw the thick smoke and flames from a distance, feeling a sense of dread.
When they arrived at the scene, villagers were trying to help, but the fire was too intense for them to do anything.
Firefighters approached the blaze with hoses.
The roof beams, unable to bear the weight, collapsed, sending up even higher flames.
Kelvin ran to the firefighters, braving the heat. "Is anyone inside?"
"We don't know. The fire's too intense; we can't get in."
Looking at the house engulfed in flames, it was clear no one could survive.
After hours of effort from the villagers and firefighters, the fire was finally under control.
The house was surrounded by charred remains.
Kelvin and Kian carefully entered the house.
The walls were blackened, and all the furniture had turned to ash.
"Kian! Over here!"
Kelvin's terrified voice came from the bedroom.
Kian rushed over.
They found two charred bodies huddled together, with scratch marks on the walls.
Kian and Kelvin's eyes reddened, unable to imagine what Jesse's parents had endured before they died.
The bloody handprints on the walls were a stark reminder of their suffering.
Who were these people they were up against?
They didn't even spare elderly people, using such a torturous method to kill them.
"Damn it! If I catch them..." Kelvin clenched his fists, gritting his teeth.
Kian stepped outside, looking at the firefighters cleaning up. "Have you found the cause of the fire?"
A firefighter sighed. "The fire was too intense. Everything's in ruins. It's hard to determine the source."
"Could it have been arson?"
The firefighter sighed again. "We don't know. We'll have to wait for the forensic team. We just put out the fire."
Kian clenched his fists, veins bulging on his arms.
They were just ordinary people!
This fire was definitely arson. Kian could even guess who did it, but there was no evidence.
In such an intense fire, all evidence was burned away.
Villagers gathered around the ruined house.
...
Not far away, a man playing with a lighter watched through binoculars, a slight smile on his lips.
He made a call, speaking in a low voice. "It's done."
"Good. Don't get caught."
After hanging up, the man expertly broke the phone and tossed it into a trash can.
...
Back at the station, Travis saw Kelvin and Kian and felt a sense of foreboding.
"Jesse's parents are dead."
Kian nodded. "Died in a fire."
"A fire? Did you find anything at the scene?" Elaine grabbed Kian's hand, eager for answers.
Kian showed her the photos he had taken. "The fire was too intense. Nothing was left. The house is completely destroyed."
Elaine was stunned. She had just promised Jesse that morning to protect his parents.
In just a few hours, Jesse was murdered, and his parents died in a fire.
"Let's go to the scene."
Elaine couldn't wait.
Travis quickly followed.
A few hours later, Elaine and Travis arrived at the ruined house.
Only a few people were left, finishing the cleanup.
In the yard, there were unfinished chores left by the elderly couple.
The wood had turned to charcoal, and even the dog in the yard hadn't escaped the fire.
Elaine's eyes were red. She thought of her own father. If it weren't for him, she might have ended up like them.
They entered the house.
All the furniture was destroyed, the beams exposed to the air.
The acrid smell of smoke filled their noses.
Travis covered his mouth and nose, surveying the surroundings.
"How could they do this?"
Elaine looked at Travis. "There's nothing they wouldn't do. This wasn't just about eliminating threats; it was a warning."
"A warning?"
Elaine nodded. "A warning from them."
