Chapter Sixty-eight

Chapter Sixty-eight
I woke up to the sounds of Harry's stomach the next day. We were so tired last night that we forgot to eat dinner. He also woke up to the sound of his own stomach, and we laughed. I swung my legs off the bed and put on my sneakers.
"Come on, Harry, let's have breakfast," I said, walking towards the door with heavy steps.
"Wait for me, darling." He followed me to the kitchen.
We washed our faces first, then brushed our teeth. We have matching toothbrushes and use the same toothpaste. Just a couple of ideas. After brushing, we rinsed our teeth. Then Harry prepared our coffee, while I baked some bread. I just love baking. The smell of it makes me feel at home, so cozy, yet it brings a lot of sad memories.
I remembered how I survived on bread. How I and my younger siblings share a single piece of bread and buy a cup of coffee and share it too. How we stayed in the street all day, afraid that Father would beat us... Tears fell down my eyes just by thinking about it.
"Georgia, are you okay?" Harry asked.
"Yeah yeah, I'm fine." I wiped the tears out of my face and tried to smile.
"You're obviously not. Is it about your father?" He asked, approaching me. He touched my face. "Tell me where it hurt, darling. I'll do my best to make it better."
"No, no, I'm fine. I just remember something," I said.
"About your siblings and mother again?" he asked, giving me a warm hug. "Everything will be alright, dear. You're not alone. I'm here for you, and I always will be."
"Thank you," I said. "I think the bread is baked."
"Oh, right. I'm sorry." He let me go.
I took out the bread from the oven and brought it to the table. Harry sandwiched them by adding butter, cheese, and veggies. He seemed hungry as he immediately bit one of them. He looked at me and grinned like a little kid. "Come on, aren't you hungry?"
"Yeah, right." I just love watching him do whatever he wants and wonder what life would be without him. I'm sure that'd be a little more sad. I sat on the chair and joined him.
When Harry was done eating, he stood up and told me that he had something to do and to just call him if I needed something. "Feel free to disturb me, darling," he said.
Nope. I'd rather not disturb you, Harry. I know you're busy with work, so I'll just find something to do and behave like a good little girl. Harry kissed the top of my head before going to his office. Meanwhile, I finished my coffee, stood up, and washed the dishes first before going to the living room to do some yoga.
Later in the afternoon, we had a visitor. It was the maid Harry found online and wants to interview. She looked older than me, probably in her thirties. She had round brown eyes, curly black hair, and fair skin. She introduced herself as Vivian Pearl. Such a wonderful name. She was already thirty-five years old.
"So, tell us about your experience being a maid," Harry said, legs crossed on the couch beside me.
"This is actually my first time applying as a maid," she said. "But I've worked as a nanny for about 5 years at the Velorias. They have two kids, Sunny and Mandy; they were twins."
"Why did you quit?" Harry asked.
"It's not that I quit. I've finished the 5-year contract. Their children were already big when I left, so I don't think they'll still need a nanny," she replied.
"We're actually looking for that," Harry said. "My wife is pregnant, and we'll need someone who can take care of her and our child in the future."
Vivian looked at me, down to my stomach. "But isn't it too early to hire a nanny?" She asked.
"You're right. But we don't need a nanny for now. What we need is a maid, you know, someone who can take care of the household chores, clean the house, and cook... It's not really hard work. I just want to make sure that my wife will get the rest she needs, especially when our baby gets bigger, for it'll be difficult for her to move," Harry said. I can feel the care in his voice.
"I see... I can do that," Vivian said confidently.
"Alright. I think we're good to go." Harry stood up, his hand on my shoulder. "Can you come to my office? I'll show you the contract and discuss the terms and your salary."
"Yeah, sure." Vivian stood up and followed Harry to his office, while I stayed there on the couch.
A few moments later, Vivian came out with the papers, probably the contract. Harry's walking behind her towards me. It seems like the interview has gone well.
"You can start working tomorrow," Harry said.
"Um. Thank you so much, sir. I'm looking forward to it. I'll be here early in the morning," Vivian replied.
I stood up and walked beside Harry to accompany Vivian outside the mansion. I didn't expect Harry would hire someone who's older than both of us. Isn't that weird? Or maybe he just wants someone with a lot of experience in housekeeping; older women are very good at this kind of work.
Harry turned toward me and asked, "So, how do you like our new maid?"
"I dunno yet. I can only evaluate her performance once she actually starts working, but based on her looks, I think she'll be a very good maid," I said, though I know looks can be deceiving.
"Right. Please don't hesitate to tell me if there's something you don't like about her. We can always hire someone new if you don't get along well," Harry said.
"Oh please, don't talk about hiring someone new when she hasn't even started working yet," I replied.
"I'm just saying, you're more important to me than anything or anyone else, Georgia. I'll do anything for you," he said while looking into my eyes. He kissed the crown of my head.
I don't know how many times Harry had said those words. I'll do anything for you. Only a few people would say this to the ones they love, and I'm glad they match with his actions, because I don't really like someone who is only good at talking and not at doing. Harry held my hand, and we went back inside the mansion together.
