Chapter 81 The Undercover Agent {7}
My eyes widened as I felt the rope tighten around my neck. I frantically scrambled for the knife I'd retrieved from behind my mirror and stuck it into the side pocket of my trousers. My fingers closed around it just in time despite the shooting pain coursing around my neck. With a surge of adrenaline, I managed to slice through the rope, feeling it give way beneath me.
I plummeted to the floor, my bones cracking upon impact. A searing pain shot through my wrist as I struggled to catch my breath. Gritting my teeth, I assessed the damage – hoping to the heavens that it wasn't a broken wrist.
Ignoring the agony, I hauled myself to my feet whilst shaking my wrist to fix the sprain, my eyes scanned the room as I entered the mansion through the front door.
No signs of my attacker.
Who could that possibly be?
The door was still open, and I could have sworn I saw a glimpse of Ramsey's jacket disappearing around the corner.
Determined to confront him, I set off in pursuit while my slightly injured wrist throbbed with every step. I reached the boy's quarter where most of Alexandro's men passed the night, then I yanked the doors open.
A couple of barechested men swirled their heads towards me.
"Ramsey?" I asked, my eyes scanning the pairs of eyes.
Silence greeted me.
"Where the hell is Ramsey?" My tone was harsh.
"He isn't here," came a gruff reply, "you should check the general bathroom."
Without hesitation, my legs took flight to the men's bathroom, I pushed the doors open - unnerved by the unpleasant sight of Ramsey's naked back.
"Was it you?" I threw the question at him.
Ramsey turned his sudsy hands and headed towards me. "What?" He seemed confused.
"Don't play dumb, Ramsey," I snapped. "I know you were on the balcony. I know you tried to kill me."
Ramsey's expression didn't waver. He faced me fully - tweaking his brows. I tried to keep my eyes on his face hoping my accusation didn't sound bizarre to my ears as well.
"I have no idea what you're talking about," he said, his voice smooth as silk.
My eyes narrowed. I knew he was lying, but I just couldn't prove it. Yet.
"Don't play me for a fool, Ramsey. You told Bruno about the supplies since you'd sensed something was wrong and he must have given you the go-ahead to do something to me," I pressed on, I wouldn't take no for an answer.
Ramsey scoffed. "So indeed you've been onto something," there was a tinge of mockery in his tune.
"What?" I was thrown aback by his statement.
"If you say I tried to kill you, how come I am in the bathroom - naked and unable to comprehend why someone had tried to kill you?"
That did hit me. Something wasn't right. Ramsey wasn't the killer, then who had tried to kill me?
"Is there something I should know?" Ramsey's eyes bored into me.
My legs moved gradually to the door, with a slight cuss - I let myself out and wandered into the dim lights of the corridors.
On a hunch, I decided to investigate further. I made my way back to the main part of the house, searching for any clues that might have been missed. That was when I spotted Alexandro's office door while returning through the familiar corridors.
Instead of focusing on who had tried to kill me, why not transfer whatever information I had to retrieve from Alexandro's office and leave this shithole in peace rather than in pieces?
Without hesitation, my hand tugged on the handle of the door and turned it clockwise. The lock shifted and the door opened.
I gasped, then stepped inside, my heart pounding in anticipation. What secrets would I uncover within these walls?
There was no possible way I could leave without having that piece of information in my custody. I picked out my secret phone, opened the back-case, and retrieved the USB device hidden in it.
Too much was happening in one day, but I was finally achieving my goal - I smiled to myself when I noticed the sleek object on the desk.
I opened Alexandro's laptop and tapped on the now-already-crammed password, scrolling through the files on the screen.
Alexandro trusted me so much that he didn't realize that I had stamped his password to my head.
I clicked on a particular file then smiled to myself as I chipped in the drive into a section of the laptop.
Finally, it would all be over soon.
"What are you doing?"
"Shit," I cussed, slapping the laptop to a close while straightening up my body instantly.
Alexandro's cold eyes came into view as soon as I turned to face the door. Wasn't I stupid enough not to have locked the door?
"I ...I...came...I was supposed to pick an object. I knocked, didn't hear anything so I let myself in," I flashed him a nervous smile.
He stopped before me, his breath fanning across my face. My heart was racing loudly, I hoped he didn't detect my lie.
One of his fingers tilted my chin, "And what could that possibly be?"
My tongue ran dry as his dark eyes bore into me. My stomach began to somersault, I hated the way his touch was reacting to my body.
"My necklace," I rasped, "it was a special gift given to me by my brother...,"
I did owned a necklace but no way had a supposed brother of mine given me that to my possession.
His gaze left my eyes and then flicked toward my lips. "And have you seen it?" His tone had gone softer.
"Yes...no... I mean no....," I stuttered, unable to think clearly.
He shouldn't be back quite early. I hadn't heard his car drive into the compound. And why was he alone?
He caged me, pushing me harder so that my buttocks slammed against the hard desk.
"Why do I feel you're lying to me?" His head leaned forward, pausing midway to my lips.
"I....I... I would never lie to you," I muttered, muddled by his hard body pressing me.
"Really?" His sexualized lips hovered over my lips.
Why was he making me this edgy, what did he want from me?
Couldn't he just let me go?
"Boss?"
It was Bruno again, opening the door to let himself in.
Thank the heavens atleast, I managed a sigh. Alexandro would leave me be - to regain my sanity.
"Leave us," Alexander's voice was calm.
"But Boss, you.....,"
"I said. Leave us," Alexandro retorted, his face holding a subtle anger.
When the door finally closed behind Bruno, Alexandro turned his head back to me.
I couldn't breathe as his fingers trailed down my face, my lips quivered slightly until he took the dip - hugging my head while his lips took the plug.
