Chapter 109 - Unreject Me

Theo’s pov

As expected, Natasha’s pup was related to me, but because of my mate’s pregnancy, I didn’t want to leave her in the pack and follow her to the human world. I wanted to be the one to provide her with the support she needed, even though Ezekiel and Penny would be there to support her during my absence. I did not want to miss this pregnancy the way I had missed the first. She did not hold it against me, but I wanted to make sure I did everything correctly this time.

Nikita and Kaizen tried to track her in the human city. It was not that simple because she had severed all ties with them. Nikita had previously looked up the company's address, so she kept an eye on them to see if they met with Natasha. Nonetheless, finding where she lived became a challenge. In addition to avoiding meetings with partners, she got rid of all the electronics she used prior to her move. We weren’t sure if she kept in touch with them via email or another form of communication. Anyway, life in the wolf world had to go on. Despite the fact that our responsibilities kept us occupied, we never gave up trying to locate Natasha.

The months progressed, and my mate’s pregnancy reached its final stages. Everything went perfectly well, and she gave birth to a baby girl. The birth of our little Avery thrilled everyone. For the first few weeks, Ezekiel and Penny handled everything so I could dedicate all of my time to my family. My mate recovered and strengthened over the course of the weeks. She was soon fit enough to be her usual self, but I never stopped being there for her and my pups.

With the birth of our daughter, my love for her increased tenfold. When I realised what she endured day in and day out, my admiration for her grew. I had never witnessed the silent struggles faced by a new mother. Even with my help and continuous support, she was the one who did most of the work. I couldn’t even begin to imagine what she must have endured when she gave birth to Archie.

Although a month had passed, I was a little reluctant to return to the Alpha office, but my mate assured me that everything was under control. Besides, I was just a mind link away, and all the omegas were only too happy to serve their luna. So she wasn’t completely all by herself during the hours I spent at the office or at the training arena.

Days passed by. Occasionally, I would ask Kaizen and Nikita if they had heard anything about Natasha. Regretfully, they had not yet located her. After two months passed, I received a formal email from Wood Stone. Heart pounding, I clicked on it, expecting it to be something about Natasha's case. Instead, there was an invitation to the inaugural Leader's Summit, which was scheduled for next week at Wood Stone.

I had completely forgotten about it, but I guess Nikita and Kaizen had been preparing for the first summit ever. I wanted to attend the event with her. It was the leader’s summit after all. I wanted to check if she was ready for her first official appearance at the summit, though, because she recently gave birth. I picked up the phone and dialled her number.

“Hey, mate. Did you miss me?” She asked as soon as she picked up the phone.

A smile curled on my lips. Obviously. How couldn’t I not miss the best person in my life?”

She giggled. “The best? How about Archie and Avery?”

I relaxed against the swivel chair and listened to her silky voice. I could stay entertained listening to her talk all day long.

“You are all my best. Where is my little girl now?” I asked her.

“She is almost asleep. Well, feeding and half asleep,” she said.

“Hmmm?” I muttered, imagining how my mate would hold her at her breast. I liked watching her feed. It was a mesmerising sight.

“Why did you call? Is it something important?” My mate’s question brought me back to reality.

“Oh, yeah. There is this invitation from Wood Stone to attend the first annual Leader’s Summit. It will be held next week, and I thought we should attend together. I wanted to ask you if you are ready to attend. It’s okay if you don’t feel like it, though. We can attend the next summit together,” I quickly said. I knew she would love to go, especially as it was the first of its kind. However, I wasn’t sure if she would want to leave Avery with someone else in the pack while we attended the summit, which could last a day or two.

“Are you kidding me? Of course, I am ready. We can take Avery with us.”

“Wait… what?” I asked.

“Yeah, why not? We can take one of the omegas with us to babysit for us while we attend the meetings. I can feed her during the breaks and during the night. What do you think?”

“Oh, I thought we would have to leave her here,” I said.

“When she is old enough, we can do that, but right now, I want to keep her as close as possible. It isn’t like we are going to fight a battle or anything like that. I'm pretty sure Nikita and Kaizen wouldn’t mind having her there. She’s just two months old and wouldn’t cause any chaos, but I can check with Nikita first,” she said.

“Yeah, do that, and then I will respond to their email.”

She followed up after some time to inform me about Nikita’s response—they would be happy to have her in Wood Stone and provide accommodation for the nanny too. So I replied to the email, informing them that my partner and I would be honoured to attend the inaugural Leader's Summit.

I was excited about attending the summit. Kaizen and Nikita had done a great job at preparing a suitable venue that could accommodate all the Alphas and Lunas of all three districts of the wolf territory. Surprisingly, all twelve Alpha couples attended the summit. Since it was the first of its kind, I thought just a few of the leaders would agree to attend, but I guess I was wrong.

At the opening ceremony, we met with the leaders who we were familiar with and introduced ourselves to the leaders of the other district, which was located a bit further away from our pack. I knew better than to believe that they were all friends, but at least we were all excited about any positive changes the summit could give rise to.

I proudly showed my mate off. Even after giving birth, she looked stunning in her deep red sleeveless gown. That her name was well known even among the not-so-familiar wolves didn’t surprise me at all. After all, she led the team that saved our district from complete destruction. Although years had passed, they hadn’t forgotten her name. I was so proud of her. She was a diva, and she was mine. I was surely one lucky wolf.

Kaizen, as the host, approached the stage to give an introduction to the summit. He raised his drink and welcomed all the guests.

"It is a privilege to be the event's host, and I am thrilled that every Alpha in the Wolf territory wanted to attend this summit. The purpose of this meeting is to talk about significant global issues and possibly find solutions for any issues that may arise in our packs. I think this summit is extremely important, and I feel we have taken a step in the right direction. The summits that come after this one should be even better than this one. Hopefully more events of this kind will be held in the future. Right now, we have an issue that needs to be addressed.”

I could not stop wondering what Kaizen was going to talk about. The problem with Natasha was the only thing on my mind, but that was more of a personal thing. Then what was he going to talk about? I kept thinking about various scenarios until he cleared his throat to speak again.

"I visited the Human City recently for a personal reason. During my visit, I learned some concerning information. A human saw a she-wolf transform into a wolf in the woods. The man was clearly shaken up, but fortunately he did not have a recording device with him, so he was not able to take any photos or videos. Once more, fortunately, the people labelled him as mentally unstable and do not trust his statements. Reportedly, he was receiving treatment for a mental illness. Anyway, this man was describing the process of us shifting to our wolves. Deep down, I knew he was telling the truth. If he had not witnessed the transformation, he would not have known how to express it so vividly. If this continues to happen and more humans see the transformation, they will eventually realise there is some truth behind the statements. I don’t feel this is safe for our packs.” Kaizen looked at the attendees. “What do you think about this situation?”

Everyone looked around, whispering among themselves. I turned to my mate, mind linking her. “Natasha?”

She pursed her lips together. We knew the chances were high.

Kaizen’s brother, the Alpha of Howlers, spoke up first. “The humans are oblivious to the existence of our kind. I am aware that some of the wolves have various interactions with them, a lot of them business-related. I don’t mind that, but I don’t feel that it is a good thing for us if they know about our existence.”

“Yes, that could raise a lot of other problems. Like them coming into our territory to hunt us down. These humans think anything different from them is dangerous. We can’t risk our families being subjected to suffering.” A Luna I wasn’t familiar with voiced her opinion. Her gaze travelled towards my mate. “What does Luna Kaya think?”

She smiled at her. “I think you are right. Our community is better hidden from humans. They might see us as specimens and use us for intensive testing or, like you said, destroy our peaceful lives. Either way, it will be chaotic.”

“But who would go so far away from the wolf's territory for a run? That she-wolf must have run a great deal to reach the turf of the humans.” An Alpha said.

I cringed. I had a hunch about who it could be. Her wolf must have needed a run, and she wasn’t careful while shifting into her beast.

“There are wolves who have moved to the human city for various reasons. Most of them are failures at some point in their lives or criminals who wanted to leave the wolf territory altogether. We have to find this wolf and give her a good shaking,” Sasha said.

I smirked. I found it funny that she deliberately avoided saying the name.

“Do you have a name in mind?” A luna asked her.

“I do,” I said, interrupting their conversation. “I have a name.”

“Who? And how do you know this she-wolf?”

I glanced at my mate, heaving a sigh. She gave a slight nod of encouragement. If I was going to tell them, I wanted to tell them everything.

I spoke after summoning a lot of courage. “Her name is Natasha, and she used to be a girlfriend of mine.”
