Chapter 473 Time to Clear Your Head

Studying abroad?

Everyone had the same thought flash through their minds: it might be good for Emily to study abroad, to leave Skylight City for a while. Even though Emily kept saying that the divorce was her own decision and that she was over James, how could anyone just let go of someone they had loved for so long? She really should take some time to clear her head.

"So, when are you planning to leave?" Isabella asked.

"After the Sea Feast," Emily replied.

She had promised Harper she would attend, and she couldn't break her word.

With no need to go to the hospital anymore, Emily found herself with plenty of free time.

That evening, as Emily was deciding whether to stay home and play video games or go out, her phone buzzed with a message from the person who had been insisting she was L, inviting her to a race.

Normally, Emily wouldn't have paid any attention to it.

But now, she had the time.

Following the location provided, Emily drove over.

To protect her identity, she put on a helmet before getting out of the car.

She didn't expect the person to recognize her anyway. "L, I'm the one who invited you. Let's race."

Looking at the tall figure in front of her, also wearing a helmet, and hearing the vaguely familiar voice, Emily frowned slightly.

"I'm not L," Emily said.

The person laughed, "It's okay, I just want to race with you."

Since the person insisted, it would be pointless to refuse. Emily agreed.

They quickly got into their cars, and with the sound of a gunshot, the two cars sped off.

"Another race with the one known as J?"

"Yep. Who's daring enough to race against J?"

"A woman."

"What? A woman? That's bold."

During the race, the other driver kept getting closer, constantly observing Emily.

Emily knew he was trying to confirm if she was L.

No matter what, she couldn't let him figure out who she really was.

For the rest of the race, Emily didn't use any special techniques. She drove like an ordinary person, just going straight ahead.

But her speed was extreme. Several times, the other driver thought Emily was about to crash, but she always managed to keep the car steady.

The cars soon reached the finish line.

Emily got out of her car and watched as the other driver approached her. "I won. I don't ask for much, just let me see your face."

She was certain she had seen this person before, but she couldn't remember who it was.

"You're definitely L. Racing with you is exhilarating." The person laughed and then took off his helmet.

A familiar face appeared before Emily: Charles.

Emily smirked, "Didn't expect it to be Mr. Green."

Charles smiled and handed her a bottle of water. "Ms. Johnson, have some water."

Emily's face darkened. "My last name isn't Johnson."

With that, she turned and walked away.

She knew who he was now, but she didn't want him to know who she was, even if he had already guessed.

She hadn't forgotten James's warning to stay away from Charles.

She herself found Charles hard to read.

Watching Emily walk away, Charles laughed, thinking, 'She let someone else take credit for saving her life. What a foolish woman.'

After leaving the race, Emily didn't go straight home. She drove around aimlessly.

When she got hungry, she picked a small diner and ordered some food.

After eating, Emily walked out of the diner. Just as she reached the door, she heard a loud shout,

"You ungrateful bitch! I've taken care of you for years, and now you want to leave? You think I'm shameless? Once you're mine, you'll always be mine. You can't escape from my grasp!"

The shouting was accompanied by the sounds of punches and kicks, and the crowd's attempts to intervene.

"You're family. You've been married for so long, everyone has their disagreements. Just compromise a little."

"Compromise? The man works hard to earn money, the woman should stay home and take care of him. What's she doing working? How much can a woman earn in a day?"

Emily frowned.

She felt sorry for the woman being beaten, but since others were already stepping in, she didn't feel the need to get involved. She decided to leave.

Just as she took a step, someone grabbed her arm.

Emily frowned and looked over to see a man reeking of alcohol. Her frown deepened. "What do you want?"

The man laughed, "I know who you are. You're the woman James dumped from the Johnson family."

Emily didn't like the sound of that.

She shook off the man's hand. "What do you mean? James dumped me? I dumped him."

Emily frowned, not wanting to argue with a drunk, but the drunk wouldn't let her go. "I get it, your pride's hurt. But don't worry, even if James doesn't want you, I still like you. Are you feeling lonely? Want me to keep you company?"
