Chapter 467 Tomorrow Our Divorce Cooling-off Period Ends

Sophia stared at James, waiting for him to say something. When he stayed quiet, she couldn't hold back any longer. "In Skylight City, besides James, who else has a Snow Mountain Willow? Emily, you took advantage of James. Don't think you can just play dumb and get away with it."

Emily had asked multiple times about the true owner of the Snow Mountain Willow.

Each time, James had remained silent.

But silence was an answer in itself.

Emily fixed her gaze on James and pointed to Austin standing beside her. "If the Snow Mountain Willow belongs to you, Mr. Smith, then who is this guy?"

James looked at Emily for a long moment before letting out a heavy sigh. "Emmy, the Snow Mountain Willow is indeed mine. Austin here is the one who helped me sell it."

"Emily, you know how busy I am. Selling a Snow Mountain Willow isn't something I need to handle personally,"

James was explaining why it was Austin who showed up to sell the Snow Mountain Willow.

While it was true that Austin was arranged by him, he didn't want Emily to think that everything was orchestrated by him.

Even though Emily would surely have her doubts, he still wanted to try to explain.

With everything laid bare, Sophia sneered at James. "So, in the end, the Snow Mountain Willow ended up with Emily, didn't it?"

If she hadn't asked James for it first, it might have been different.

But she had asked first, and James hadn't given it to her. Instead, he gave it to Emily, and the implications were clear.

"James, do you even know who your girlfriend is? Who is the most important person to you?" Sophia shouted at James, her voice breaking.

After yelling, she grabbed her purse and stormed out of the private room.

"Sophia," James called out.

He glanced at Emily, then quickly ran after Sophia.

Emily remained silent.

She just wanted to buy a Snow Mountain Willow, not get involved in all this drama.

"Ms. Johnson, what should we do now?" Austin asked.

He looked in the direction James had gone, then back at Emily, unsure of what to do next.

Emily sighed. "Since we're here, let's finish the meal. No point in wasting it."

If it were anything else that had once belonged to James, she would have returned it without hesitation.

But the Snow Mountain Willow was crucial to her grandfather's research. She couldn't return it, and it was too late to do so anyway.

Knowing Aiden's dedication, the Snow Mountain Willow was probably already being used in his lab.

Returning it wasn't an option, so she would find another way to make amends.

In the private room, Emily sat down and looked at Austin. "The Snow Mountain Willow belongs to James. So, what's your relationship with him?"

Emily's tone wasn't exactly friendly, but Austin remained respectful. "I'm Mr. Smith's employee. You haven't met me before, so Mr. Smith arranged for me to deliver the Snow Mountain Willow to you. But Mr. Smith was worried you might get suspicious, so he came up with this plan."

She pulled out a check from her pocket, wrote a number followed by a string of zeros, and handed it to Austin. "This is the remaining payment. From now on, we're square."

Austin glanced at the check, his expression shocked. The amount was staggering.

It was just an herb. Was it really worth that much?

Regardless of its value, Austin couldn't accept the money. "Ms. Johnson, the Snow Mountain Willow was Mr. Smith's, so I can't accept this money."

"Whether you take it or not is your problem. I've signed the check, and I'm not taking it back. Do what you want with it." With that, Emily stood up and left.

Outside the restaurant, Emily was about to have her car brought around when another car suddenly pulled up in front of her.

The window rolled down, revealing James's face.

Seeing him, Emily frowned but couldn't help her curiosity. "Why are you still here? Weren't you chasing after Sophia?"

James didn't answer her question. Instead, he said, "Get in."

Emily's frown deepened. "Do you have something to say to me?"

"You'll find out once you're in the car."

"Mr. Smith," Emily's voice carried a hint of irritation, "if you have something to say, just say it. If not, please leave and stop wasting my time."

James pressed his lips together, looking at her for a moment. Just as he was about to speak, Emily cut him off, "Oh, Mr. Smith, I just remembered. Tomorrow our cooling-off period ends, and we can get the divorce decree. Is that why you're here?"

James fell silent.

If Emily hadn't mentioned it, he wouldn't have remembered the cooling-off period for their divorce.

"I..." James tried to say something, but Emily interrupted him again. "Whatever your reason for being here, Mr. Smith, remember to bring the necessary documents tomorrow at 8 AM so we can finalize the divorce."
